Title: Horn handles?
Post by: pintail_drake2004 on August 24, 2007, 07:18:00 PM
Hey yall, i was talking to a friend of mine at class today and he said he use to hunt with a feller who had a recurve with a cow horn handle...i asked if it was an inlayed laminated piece, he said the handle was almost all horn until it touched the main body of the bow. Would that work right? i was wondering about moisture problems because bone/horn dries differently than wood.
Anyone have a pic of something like this?
Thanks
Pintail

I have seen elk antler risers....and I know the Native American had horn bows....but it does sound neat. Chance of getting pics?

I wouldn't see why it won't work, heck you could probably turn about anything into a riser, I've been looking for a piece of texas longhorn myself, like to have a whole horn or two, really like to try and turn them into a T/D longbow.
