Title: Recent Pig Hunt
Post by: Dan Bonner on March 09, 2013, 08:06:00 PM
Headed to my buddy Wade's (Stripstrike1)place Tuesday after work. he and I had been planning a hunt for a while but because of work and kids activities we just couldnt match up our schedules. This day was no different as Wade could not leave work early enough to get there in time to hunt. He twisted my arm into going alone and I really didnt want to go, but he insisted so I went. Go there a little late. feeder had alraedy spun so I climbed up in the stand hoping I hadnt runt off any game as i approached. Within a half hour I looked across the field and saw 2 big Rio longbeards heading my way flanked by 3 hens. Cant hunt them till 4/1 but it was great to see them. I snapped this shot with my cell as they approached. the toms are behind the tree.

They fed a while right in front of me and then I heard a growl from the woods behind me. The birds spooked off and a half dozen pigs showed up to take their place under the feeder. There were two big sows and the rest were 20 pounders. finally after about 5 minutes the biggest sow got into a good spot for a shot. Arrow hit its mark and i could see blood pouring out as she ran.

got down to tracker her before dark and found my arrow after about 60 yds.

Thanks all! And it's funny how some pigs look  "wilder" than others. I have killed some that look like market pigs but this one looked more like a Russian pig with the long nose, huge tall shoulders and small hams. She did have a wirey long coat too. I think the "wilder" looking pigs are much cooler. Supposedly that part of TX is where some of the earliest swine releases occurred in the US by Spanish explorers. Maybe they have had more generations to revert to wild traits?
