Title: Got a new chronograph with result.
Post by: wisconsinteacher on March 09, 2013, 02:20:00 PM
Here are the results of the 3 bows I own.

Bear Grizzly #45 with a Gold Tip 3335
Total weight of arrow 442.6 grains
159.2 ft per sec

Bear Montana #50 with Easton Legacy 1916 arrows
Total weight of arrow 462.9 grains
156.5 ft per sec

Bear Warf at #50 with Carbon Express 4560 arrows
Total weight of arrow 518.9 grains
161.5 ft per sec

I was suprized to see they all were close in speed.  I used the warf this year and shot 2 deer.

Do these speeds sound correct?

They sound about right. Remember with any measuring instrument the old adage, "The thermometer measures the temperature of the thermometer."

The measurements are all relative and there are many variables (draw length, quality of release, string material, etc.) that effect the results. Most decent stick bows will shoot in the 150 to 190 fps range.

A useful comparative standard is 28" draw and 10 grains per pound of draw weight arrow.

I agree with Shaun.

I've chronographed a lot of bows (Pro Chrony).  I often use the same arrow, a 416 grain to check relative speeds. I have a 26" draw.  My FPS are generally high 150's to low 180 from 45-50# draw weights.

What is your draw length?

I would say my draw is 27.75-28.25"  I have never really measured it.

You need to have a draw length or the numbers mean nothing. I have a bow at 9gpp. will do an honest 220 fps but that is drawn to 31"s. Most of my bows shoot around 190fps. drawn to 28.5"s and shooting 8.5gpp. Shawn

I have also heard CE Pro Chrono tends to display slightly lower results than Shooting Chrony or other brands. Is this true?
