Do I have to remove the string after every use or can I leave my recurve strung for long periods of time?
I only unstring mine for transport and long term storage. I leave them all strung at home when I am using them regularly. I have one that I have had for over 25 years and it shows no harm from leaving it strung for long periods (several years) when being used regularly.
I store all of my bows unstrung. My only reasoning is that I think they have more attractive profiles when the are on the rack unstrung.
I keep my r.c. and l.b. strung all the time. But I shoot them all the time. The only time I unstring them is when I am twisting the string up or changing the string.
My 61" TD has basically been strung for last 10 years...it has lost 1#
Lotsa debate about this subject.. I am of the old school that every time you string/unstring there is a chance of damaging the bow limbs.. If I am shooting regularly I leave mine strung.. But, I had an issue come up with my youngest son who is mentaly disabled and loves to shoot, but needs constant supervision.. The wife left her bow strung, and son decided he wanted to shoot.. I do not know how long he shot but he lofted an arrow over the fence and lost it.. He came and got me to find it for him.. I suffered some heart trauma till I found the arrow and no damage to the neighbors stuff.. Now when he is home bows are unstrung..
Leave 'em strung all the time.only store them horizontally on two pegs
For reasons many may, or may not understand, I unstring mine, put one in a bow sock, and disassemble the others and keep them in a case. Out of sight, out of mind! :biglaugh:

Here's my OPINION on the subject.
All-wood bows (laminated or self bow) should be unstrung when not in use.
Glass-laminated bows can be left strung forever. However, here in MI it is illegal to transport a strung bow unless it is in a case, therefore you'll probably want to unstring it a goodly amount of the time.
No bow should be left strung in a hot car, truck, room, etc.
Longbow or recurve makes no difference.
Storage should be horizontal on pegs as mentioned above. I don't believe it matters if they're hung from the string or on the limbs, but store mine unstrung supported on the limbs. You can get more on the rack that way.
W.W.F.B.D? What would Fred Bear do?
