Title: Help choosing a wood arrow
Post by: awbowman on March 06, 2013, 11:42:00 AM
OK guys, I can't stand not having wood arrows any longer.  The recent pictures of them from Snag and the likes have pushed me over the edge .....  but I have a problem.  I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT CHOOSING A WOOD ARROW!!!!!

I am wanting a wood arrow to shoot out of my 62" Super D.  The specs are 47#s at 25 1/2" DL.  I am currently shooting a CE Heritage 150 (29 1/4" (back of brass insert to nock), I know it's long but it's what shoots and gives me the weight I want), 50 grain brass insert, 175 grain BH, three 5" shield feathers and a 7" wrap.  What should I invest in if I want a slightly shorter arrow, but still want a finished arrow of at least 525 grains.

Again I know nothing about wood arrows, and for all I know I am not giving enough info. HELP!

I sent him an e-mail already, thanks

Just trying to get some ideas on wood type, spine etc.  I'll just go solo with Snags help.  Thanks.

You should also contact Rod Kelley 406 756 5885.  Rod knows more about arrows and arrow making than most of us will ever know in our life time.

Ask Jim Wright about Rod.

He is not a sponsor here, but the only guy that I will use is Bounty Hunter Traditional arrows, check him out on Facebook, and I think that you will love what you see. Or message me for more info.

10 times what Brock said, absolutely the best at  getting it right the first time. If you cut the arrow so it is 27"s to BOP I would think with a 125 grain head 60-65# spine would be right, that is using what I can remember from Kelly formula. Shawn
