Im thinking about switching to wood this year.
Im shooting 2018's now at 28.75 with 125 grn head.
Im shooting a 50lb longbow (Savannah)
Any idea what spine to order and start the cutting at.
The reason Im thinking of switching is Ive shot wood before and found them to be quieter as well as out penetrating the 2018's.
The issue was I couldnt get them to fly the way I wanted.
any thoughts?
I would order a test pack... from a reputable arrowsmith. try 45-50, 50-55, and 55-60. bareshaft each at 30" for a start and then use that info to decide what you need to cut them to. Finally, select which one works best for you. Wooden arrows are awesome once you find a combo that works well for you. Best of luck.
2018's spine around 68lbs so maybe 65-70?
I never could grasp this concept. Or I'd be all over the wood arrow game. Just seems like such a complex thing. Especially for idiots like me who shoot 4 bows all varying in weight ranges. Good luck and let us know how you do!!
What's your draw length? Is the Savannah 50#@28"?
I had a Savannah once and it was a tricky bow with wood for me. Seemed to like 65-70's. My Savannah was a 55# that I drew around 27". I had Astroflight for a string and a lower brace. That bow just liked alums though... Good luck!

Funny...That's how I feel about carbons.
Woods seem to work the best for me. I am shooting a Miller OLd Tom 55#@27" Surewood douglas fir 50-55 @281/2 BOP ar perfect. Sure wood have test packs. They are great to wook with.
Snag, I have never shot wood arrows but your artistic craetions beckon me ever closer! I love what you do to an arrow!!! Ha can you safely advise an arrow without a test pack and cutting different lengths and doing different weights on the tip? It can seem a little intimidating.
I shoot a 56" Cascade brushhawk longbow it's R/D its 51# @ 28" I belive I draw closer to 27" but should check closer. I shoot 29" Beman MFX Classic 500s with 75gr HIT insert and 150gr tip, arrows fly great. Thanks for any thoughts, Jim
If 2018's work I would try 55-60's. I would be happy to sell you a test assortment, as Dendy suggested but 55-60's is my first guess.
