I shoot a GN bushbow 53lbs@27". I draw 27 inches. I like to shoot 160 points or broadheads. Up until now I have used aluminum or mostly cedar cut at 28.5 -29". What carbon shaft and size should I be looking at if I were to make the switch?? Thanks for any info! :confused:
Any of the Beman 500 shafts should work for you. Just start bareshafting one at approximately 30 inches in length and cut off 1/8 inch increments until it starts striking your target neither nock left nor nock right to find the correct length.
I'm shooting AD trad lites full length with 200 grain head with hybrid longbow 51 lbs at my 27" draw length. If you want a standard carbon I agree with a .500 spine left full length will get you close.
A 500 spine should work for you, but you should plan on 100 gr. inserts. You will need more than 160 point unless you have an arrow with a lot of excess shaft length. You really would be better off with the heavier arrow anyway so just plan on the 100 gr insert and a shorter shaft to get up over 9 gpp.
Put on a 145 head with the 100 insert and start long on the shaft and cut a little at a time to tune. Once you get that working, you can bump the point weight up more and do some more cutting if you have room to cut. You can also try a 50 gr. insert to get maybe as much as a 175 head.
For a shaft I would go with the CE150. A lot of other 500 shafts will not get you the weight you probably want.
