I was sorting through a bunch of "stuff" on Sunday. While digging I came across some Bodkins. That got me to thinking about them. How many of you still hunt with them?
Bill
I sill hunt with MA3-L's. They were called "Bodkins" at one time (I think).
I have some of the smaller ones on some small game arrows.
Seen pics of those before, look like good heads, never tried em, seen some on **** for sale occasionally.I got some real 'bodkins' on some of my English longbow arrows, LOL
I have several dozen. I hope to throw some at a turkey this spring. They are lighter heads, but I think they should work fine for deer or turkeys.
ChuckC
I have a few random ones but dont hunt with them, they are just taking up space.
I use them for groundhogs.
any one else?
I just bought a dozen ma3 heads. Plan to shoot them at deer this fall. They take a little work to get sharp, but nothing I can't handle in the next 6 months!
My best swap meet purchase was at the Baltimore shoot about five years ago. I bought 48 Bodkins for $5!
I think I have half a dozen left.
All the rest went with the groundhog down the hole! Oh yeah!
Hey Zipper Bowss...you ain't thinking about making something like them and add them to your line of broadheads are 'ya? :readit:
They were a popular head in their day. Made with pretty soft steel and I've not been impressed with the edge taken or held. I have some on squirrel arrows.
I have some on some woods for my self bow.

Just thinking, SuperK.
I dont think we have to worry about the original woodsmans going the way of the dinosaur.
I love them for small game.
Used a boat load for chucks back a few years. They make a great intermediate/small game head.

I was looking at them a little while ago because they had a good price since then they have jumped up a few $.
Best small game head made. If they were a bit easier to sharpen they would be a bette head for serious big game. They are very durable and I have to sharpen them on a belt sander to get a serrated type edge which works very well on squirrels, wood chucks, coons, etc.
I still have a few. Do use them on squirrels. Killed a turkey with one a few years ago.
really like them as a small game head. They are tough to sharpen though or I'd use them on larger game too. I have been thinking about using them for turkey this spring though too.
If anyone wants to sell any let me know. I use them, my kids use them...
