Title: Traditional Archery Magazines
Post by: EHK on February 25, 2013, 07:50:00 AM
Hey gang.  I'm looking to subscribe to a traditional archery magazine.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  Looking for something educational as well as anectdotal.  Can anyone compare and contrast Trad Archers World, Stick and String, Traditional Bowhunter, or just make a recommendation on a printed magazine they enjoy?

Thanks...

Personally, I just go buy them at the store when I see one I like.  If I end up buying a particular magazine over and over I'll get a subscription.

Traditional Bowhunter is the gold standard. Trad Archer's World is a good runner up.

Traditional Bowhunter has been around the longest and is the most polished.  They also have the most advertisement.  TradArchers World reminds me of TBM when it first started.  There is good stuff in both of them and I enjoy subscribing to both.

Primitve Archer is delivered and I go to Barnes and Noble and read the others over a cup of coffee.

By far Traditional Bowhunter. It comes bi-monthly. Trad world comes 4 times a year. I try to pick Trad World up at the book store.

Another vote for traditional bowhunter. I like to save my old ones to reread later, after a couple years its like reading the info for the first time again. But hey, maybe that's just my bad memory!

Thank you for the kind words Dan. A lot of the credit goes to Tom Jenkins, because without Tom, much of that history included in the Michigan Bow Hunters 60th Anniversary book would've been lost. I was Tom's 'ghost writer' for the Hall of Fame Chapter of the book.  Some say it's a lot of work writing those up, but it was fun reading all of the different articles, newsclippings and notes from the 40's, 50's and 60's on those individuals who are now in the Michigan Bow Hunters Hall of Fame.

i have subscribed to Traditional Bowhunter for years. new one just came today! i subscribe three years at a time, and i make sure it doesn't run out. have bought the others at various times, but unlike most, i'm not much of a tinkerer (i know -- a sin for a trad shooter. more interested in hunting than building.

Traditional Bowhunter (paper magazine), Primative Archer, Stick and String (both online subscription via my IPAD) and Bowhunter Magazine, which has a traditional section.

For me, the Traditional Bowhunter is as mentioned, the gold standard.  I like Stick and String for its back to basics simplicity and style.  Primative archer has great articles on primative bow stuff which I find facinating.

Having the magazine online is interesting.  My IPAD is filled with magazines as I am deployed in Afghanistan.  I can print stuff that I want to keep but I don't have to dispose of a years worth of magazines if I had a traditional subscription.
