I know they are fortunate ones that have been able to fulfill their dream hunt, and would love to hear their storie's. But for those of us still in dream mode, what would your ultimate Traditional bow hunt over all other's be ? For myself, it has to be a hunt for African Leopard at nightime over bait. From reading about hunts from Capstick to Corbett, the adrenaline rush of a cat that stealthy being able to be up a tree and on a bait and never make a sound is amazing. I can't hardly imagine the feeling of trying to keep in check, focus and make the shot with the blood probably rushing through your ears like ocean waves. It would be such a experience to be in on selecting the spot, help setting the baits and be able to follow through at the moment of truth. Look forward to hearing everybody's one hunt over all others they wish for. Number two for me would be to have the opportunity to arrow a World class Whitetail !!
Froggy
For me it would be either a 2 week pack trip in the yukon or B.C. for moose. Have a rustic log outpost cabin to stay in and then travel by horse or mule each day.
And if we can back up time I'd like to be at the Little Delta Cabin with Fred and Glenn...... : )
Not legal in Brazil but... float the Amazon or hunt the Pantanal taking Marsh Deer, Tapir, Jaguar, Black Caiman, Capybaras, Maned Wolf and Bush Dog.
Argali Ram in Russia. The one with the huge horns.
God bless you all, Steve
I have many places I would love to hunt. None really exotic I guess. B.C., Alaska, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico. Elk, moose, bear
mountain lion, deer and turkey. Just some places to enjoy the beauty of nature and have a chance to take any of these game. I grew up in the south and loved hunting those woods, just a simple man and these places have always been on my list of places to see and hunt. I forgot Idaho.
Oz
Sheep or goat would be really cool, but health and bad knees will not ever allow that to happen. So I'll be happy to someday have a successful hunt.....somewhere!!
My dream of stalking a Cape Buff just isn't reality anymore, for alot of reasons,so second best is what I do now. With my son and friends 25 miles into the Northern Alberta forest, with Walltents and woodburning stoves we chase Moose and Elk.Next is right out my back door in Saskatchewan chasing world class Whitetails and Muledeer.
Has to be elk hunting for me. It is something I have always wanted to do, Colorado, Montana, it really doesn't matter!
Someday... :campfire:
That would be the entire season in the Cassair Mountains of British Columbia from August 1-October 15 hunting everything they have available with my TallTines. Stone Sheep, Mountain Goat, Caribou, and Grizzly, Moose, Elk, Black Bear, and Wolf.
Grizzly bear. Would love to try it.
I'd like to go with Steve O !
Maybe in the next lifetime.
I would love to spend a couple months in Australia. First would be water buffalo, then anything and everything else that is down under.
Reality is that it won't ever happen but dreams die hard.
For me, it would be a month in Alaska hunting a few different things.
I would love to do a Grizzly hunt with my Recurve in B.C. or Alsaska, I just think that is the ultimate test and would love to be able to see that awesome country
Griz! But mountain goats and Dall Sheep run a close second.
Steve O was reading my mind, go up to BC and setup camp for about 3 months and hunt what ever is available.
Eric
A wild ox world slam! Banteng, gaur, cape, water buff and wood and plains bison. Oh and a muskox cause theyre just cool.
At the top for me is elk and moose. Still trying to figure out where and how. I've set aside Sep 2014 for whatever I figure out.
I'm with CDR on this one....it would have to be elk out west. I've never hunted them...never had a backcountry hunt.
Of course, I'd have to modify the prequisites to read, "If time and money, and skill with trad gear weren't a factor . . ."
Kingsnake
*prerequisites . . .
Elk in az
I would love to hunt Himalayan Blue Sheep and Tibetan Gazelles in the Dulan Hunting Ground located in China's far southwestern Qinghai province. It has never been done with a traditional bow before, ar at least in our modern world.
Nothing real fancy or exotic for me, just small chunk of land right here in Michigan to hang my trestand to call my own.
Bighorn sheep in Montana.
Caribou - with an outfitter that will fly me to a new location in the middle of a hunt if we're not seeing animals.
Elk and moose.
Marco Polo rams somewhere in the Himalayas, beautiful creature ad even prettier country, it's the roof top of the world!
I would be in for elk and moose. Location no so important I would hunt where ever they roam.
BC Stone Sheep would be my Dream Hunt.
For me, it's anywhere I have hope of seeing some decent game, with good company back at the camp. The game is the gravy, the hunt and and experience is what I'm after.
Bugling bull elk or a b&c whitetail are on the bucket list for me
Since 2008, my acute focus, with no competition, has been to pursue the Reds and Fallows of New Zealand. The hunt is be 10 days to permit absolute immersion, total engagement and recuperation time if required. Wish to allot time to absorb some morsels from the abounding treasures and both converse and mingle with the special inhabitants of this majestic country.
Ponderous racks command invariable alluring aspirations and may consume the mind; while an eventful hunt is forever yearned for, but the most worthy treasures I hope to harvest are the prime experience and its indelible divine memories.
>>> The dream hunt has been dreamt enough.<<<
My personal pinnacle dream hunt is scheduled to unfold March 2014.
I would have to say a elk hunt in Utah ..Idaho or somewhere in the Rocky's and then to Saskatchewan or Iowa for a big brute whitetail... then onto Manitoba stickflingers for a big Cinnamon bear all harvested with my tall tines curve!!!!!!!
Elk and/ or Moose. But in the short run and more attainable is to take a trip south and hunt hogs. No feral hogs in PA, I'm hoping to do that this year.
How 'bout bear in Russia with Don Thomas Jr. along to guide. That endless wilderness would be pretty amazing. Conversations would be pretty good too.
Or
Moose in the north.
I made a promise to myself that I would go on a mountian goat hunt. Probably in Alaska if I had the finances. I would like 10 days for hunting/waiting out bad weather.
I think a float trip in Alaska hunting for everything I could get a tag for and the fly fishing to boot. That is my ultimate.
I guess since I live in the Yukon, it would be to connect, with a moose, caribou and a sheep with my long bow!! If I can get good enough with my bow, I will certainly try again this year!!
American bison or elk. Both sound fun
Steve O, take me with you on that trip!
My dream is a diy Alaska moose hunt. I'll make it happen one of these days!
Think a chance to go Hunting and not be guiding, Would love to Hunt whitetails, maybe a hog
Free range Bison without a doubt!!!
Would like to call in a wolf and try calling in some big cats.( back up with the cats.) Calling in jackels and hyenas would be a blast .
And a grizzly.
I think Alaska. But much more realistic and possible in near(ish) future would be a canoe-in hunt for moose here in Ontario. Just need the time off and a little more money than I've got - which would be "any" ;-)
Alaska float trip for moose and black bear.
Southern hogs is a close second.
I'd say I'd probably want to go to Alaska for a 2-3 month hunt/fish/camp excursion. I've never really been interested in African game but a nice 2-3 month safari in Australia would also be super fun.
Austraila for me hunting all species of deer they have.
I think if time and money were not a factor I would start at one end of north american and hunt my way to the other end. There is so much game I have not had a chance to hunt I could keep busy chasing them for a long time.

Yep that's the one!Also...Having been to Ray's a couple of times brought back so many memories of growing up in NC. I love those woods/swamps! My other dream then would be to buy some property along the Savannah River, build a small camp/home and spend my days hunting pigs.
For everybody dreaming about hunting off horseback, it is not all that great. You spend most of your time taking care of the horses every day rather than hunting. They are great for getting way back in and out, but at that point you get a LOT more hunting in on foot!
Hopefully that tidbit I learned over a decade ago on one of MY dream hunts will help somebody in refining theirs.
I would choose a pack in elk hunt in the western US. State doesn't matter, just the experience of pack in and do-it-yourself!
Yukon moose ...
Alaskan/BC moose float trip and a very close second would be Elk hunting with T Bar M in SW Colorado.
Grizzly bear spot and stalk with my longbow in Alaska followed closely by a spot and stalk elk hunt somewhere out west.
every thing Alaska & the Yukon have to offer!! Esp caribou and moose.
#1: Argali
#2: Bighorn
#3: Alberta spot and stalk mulies
#4: Yukon Moose
Grizzly iin alaska
float trip in AK
Walters wilderness camp in Sask for bears
Quebec 'bous
then start up north and work my way south for whitetails
Trad Moose Hunt in the Yukon. Did it with Shockey and a wheel bow in 2005. Love to try again with Traditional Bow.
Take care ,Randy
Im still pretty young and wont be 25 yet when we move out to Missoula, so I will spend my forseeable hunting seasons chasing elk, muleys and whitetail out there. I dont necessarily have a dream hunt as I plan on hunting with my Tall Tines the rest of my life and have a supporting wife so that helps! I really cant wait to go on a caribou hunt, a moose hunt somewhere, and my ultimate goal is to take a Montana bighorn ram and mountain goat...but for now spring turkeys in Iowa are what I'm dreaming about :archer2:
American Bison (Buffalo) anywhere. Free ranging animals......cow or bull really wouldn't matter.
A game rich environment. I don't have anything per say. I go back and forth between elk, caribou and pronghorn. My biggest frustration is the lack of game seen while hunting around home and the background noise of highways and bi-ways. That's all...
-Jeremy :coffee:
A two week hunt for either Grizzly or Moose.
Marco Polo Sheep
I think caribou on the move would be awesome, so would a buglin bull, or a cat with dogs, or anything african, or an ibex, or.....maybe a gator, or.....I could go on and on!
A full season free to hunt with one of Montana's most coveted Bighorn sheep tags(district 482) in my pocket.
Newfoundland Moose
Coastal spot and stalk bears w/Don Thomas
Arizona Javies
The list goes on!!
Steve
A two week float trip in interior Alaska for Moose.......
David
Spot and stalk warthogs in Africa...and it looks like I may be going in June to do just that! :)
Randy,
Proud for you bud, look forward to hearing how it turns out.
Lanier
Shiras Moose anywhere!!!
OZ for 2 months, Buff, Hogs and then on to B.C for 2 months. wish that was possible.
Quote: If wishes were fishes we would all cast nets"
Since we're dreaming, mine would be a Dall Sheep hunt in Alaska...WITHOUT a guide
Couple of things I guess, Yukon moose, Alaskan grizzly, elk anywhere, and a mounted buffalo hunt would be my top choice.

A lot of my dream hunts have to do with not just what I would be hunting and where but WHO I would hunt with. Hunting with traditional bow-hunting cultures that still hunt for subsistence would be my ultimate hunt. It would be amazing to experience and learn from their tracking skills, stalking, etc.
Total Fantasy:
Papua New Guinea: I would love to hunt wild pigs or deer with the native New Guineans that still hunt with bows. Saw some of their gear in one of Ashby's presentation and it was incredible. Their arrows weigh thousands of grains with FOCs above 30%!
Amazon: I've always wanted to go to the Amazon or one of the tributaries. I would love to hunt with any tribe still using bows to take whatever game they hunt.
Kalahari: The bushmen are some of the best trackers in the world and some still hunt with bows. Hunting and tracking with them would be a life-changing experience!
More realistic dream hunts:
Pigs, goats, fallow deer on any of the Hawaiian islands . Desert Bighorn in CA or AZ. Javelina in AZ or Texas.
OK, time to get back to reality...
If time and money weren't a factor I'd never come home from the hunt. It'd be like the movie endless summer but with a bow instead of a surfboard. Enough said.
I would buy 5000 acres in Iowa and manage it for giant whitetails. There is nothing on earth that I would rather hunt!! Shawn
That moose John float trip in Alaska is about as cool as it gets in my opinion.
