pulled back to full draw, released, POWWW, gold tip nock broke, that got my attention, luckily no damage to my brand new Bob Lee Ultimate or me. checked everything on the bow out real good, saw no issues so shot another arrow, carbon express that is, after hearing of nock problems on the gold tips and then having one, I might be done with them. never want that to happen again. I have been shooting bows for 37 years and that was my first time I ever had one blow up, and I didnt like it one bit. I always inspect my nocks before I start shooting also, saw no problems with this one, until POWWWW.
I heard that the new GT's, ( last few months ) the problem was fixed ?
Glad you, and your bow are O.K.
I got these arrows around November, but they have not been shot more than 20 times
I had one blow up on me too, but in my case it MIGHT have been one that I filed to fit the serving.
Anyway, for what it's worth, Carbon Express nocks fit in GT shafts nice and tight and fit my serving better.
Sorry that happened glad all is well. I have been shooting the GT's for over a year along with wood. I have been fortunate to not have that happen.
I guess we have been lucky here also. Maybe cause I change to Bohning nocks when I make up the arrows. I do save the OEM nocks for spares. Guess I will trash what GT nocks I have because I do not know what batch they are anymore. I rather be safe than sorry also.
I got a deal on 1000 Easton nocks that fit the gold tips..I toss my gold tips and use the Easton instead...Different plastic material does different things under a stress test and molding them correctly is key...You mold too quickly that can cause some major issues or too long and not the right tempurture can do all kinds of crazy stuff on anything plastic...I wished I had the money to make a nock mold and introduce a fiberglass additive to the plastic material as we once used in a major tool we molded for a company cause the glass did wonders mixed with certain plastics ..
I think it would definitly help in the process of holding nocks together and from breaking so easy...Just my 4 cents worth.. :jumper:
Glad you and your bow are okay! I use Easton nocks on all my carbons.
I have plenty of CE nocks, I will try switching them out because I do like the GT trad arrows, This is also a testament to how well built Bob Lee Bows are
This is not just isolated to Gold Tips. I had this happen to me a couple of times with Carbon Express Heritage arrows.
Never had a GT nock break. probably I'll just switch to Beman or Easton nocks. Beman vibranocks add a few grains too FWIW (maybe 10 grains more than easton or GT).
I heard about GT nock issues before and decided to swap all my GT nocks for Boehning Signature Nocks...
I've heard of GT nock problems for a couple years now...hard to understand why they don't fully address this. :dunno:
Had this happen with gold tips several years ago.Shoot bemans now and try to look at my nocks more often
All nocks will crack. The GoldTip issue was with their pin nocks. I am glad that you are well but this is a great reminder to check the arrows closely. Nocks crack due to being struck by other arrows and just plain wear, especially with a tight fit. I have broken nocks just by hitting something in a bag target. Likely a target pin or an arrow point. Impact energy caused the nock to fly from the arrow and put a small crack in the back of the arrow. All of that energy and vibration has to go somewhere and this time it went back through the rrow shaft. I sill prefer aluminum over carbon simply as a means of avoiding an exploding arrow. Cracks and gouges can become a real problem quickly.
