It was a beautiful afternoon so I grabbed my bow and went for a stroll.
My intent was to get back in some of the cane thickets to look for a pig. On my way I was stumping just to practice a bit. I enjoy that almost as much as hunting !! As I walked along I saw a few cat squirrels but they didn't hang around. As I rounded a curve in the trail a fox squirrel sat up down the way. I couldn't resist.
I watched the arrow arch through the air and start falling. It was really looking good. I don't know who was more surprised when it thumped home. I was aiming/looking at the squirrels head, he was sitting upright. The arrow dropped down and hit him through the shoulder. I'm sure my jaw hit the ground ! I counted 41 long steps to him.. This has to rank up there in the top ten best (luckiest) shots I've ever made.. This 63# Wesley has a bad habit of getting bloody !!

Shame on that Wesley .... :nono:
Good shot! Those Texas squirrels are hard to skin out. Hide does not give at all.
I slit the hide across the top of the back, enough to get my fingers in.. Then pull in opposite directions, good exercise !!! Ya wind up with a naked squirrel that you clip the appendages off of, then gut and in the stew pot !
Awesome shot Pat!!
Skinned one in Texas last Feb. It gave me a run getting that hide off. Enjoy. I love a good squirrel stew.
  Way to go Pat!
