Title: what do you use to label your bows
Post by: wyatts daddy on August 22, 2007, 11:51:00 PM
I was wondering what is everybody using to label their bows? I have been writing on the riser itself but was wanting to find out what to use to label it on the glass. Please help.
Thx Bill

I have been using a sharpie. I guess my question is what can I use on the glass? Is there some kind of paint?

Bill I have always written on the glass with a white ink ball point pen but I do sand the glass with a fine grit sandpaper where I want to write, has always worked well for me, I also use the gold and silver pens as well...Glenn...

Bill lightly sand the glass and use a silver or gold "sharpie" type pen.  White works well too.  Then lightly spray a couple coats of the bow finish over it.

What works well for me is a fine tipped fountain gel pen.  Keep it at the right angle and you can make very fine lines with it. Plus, if you have a coat of finish on already you can wipe the writing off if you screw up.  I then allow this to dry overnight before finish coats of varnish.  Looks classy to me.  Cheers, Matt

Go to a craft store and buy the fancy gell paint pens.  Some large dept stores carry them.

Yep, gel pens. The big craft store Michaels carries a bunch. The brand Gelly Roll seem to work extremely well.

I've been using a fountain pen and india ink in gold or black. I'll probably switch to the gel rollers because it's hard to get an even line with the fountain pen. When your handwriting sucks like mine does, you don't need to be worrying about uneven lines on top of everything else!

I use a very fine calligraphy pen and archival white ink.

I found that my paint pen I've been using on the wood riser works great. Thx to all of you that have posted to help me.
