Bought what I thought was a good U.S. made knife (trapper) from Frost Cutlery off of T.V... Only to find out it was made in China.... Wasn't really what I was wanting.
Where's a good place to buy a really good custom folding knife cheap??? really like horn or stag...
Hey Tommy,
How's that little one doing?? Don't know whether they make a folder or not but the best for the price that I've found is Marbles made in Gladstone, Michigan. May want to look on their site.
Take care and hope to be loosing arrows with you soon, LOL!
Bob
String Cutter,
Always liked a Case knife made in Pa.
Marbles is also a good knife but watch some are made in China.
A really good custom folder horn or stag cheap,
good luck.
John
Everything is made in china. All the old knife companies went over there. They have to if they want to be in business. You can find some good old knives on ****. I buy sell and trade what do you want? I probably have it. Good bone or stag handle american made knives are going to be high anyway you slice it. (No pun intended)Try moore maker knives out of texas. They make them the old way with high carbon steel that takes a ra zors edge. A small trapper will run you $100.00
Good luck HOEBOW

Hoebow, You got a website for them????
Bob, She's growing faster than I can keep up.... She really is the best thing to ever happen to me.... I think the man who asks the meaning of life.... Ain't never had a little girl.

:biglaugh: if you buy a case check out sheperd hills cutlery.. They have alot buck and case(alot of buck is made in china now) hard to beat there price on case. Bear cutlery make some sheep horn knives but the one I saw were seconds.(handles). They make a good knife.bone and wood..good luck
Hey all,
I am not 100% positive but I think some of the Cold Steel models are made in the USA. Even if they arent they are some sweet cutting blades.
Brian G
Moore makers are great knives. 1095 steel. The bone handled ones are made for them by Queen and the Delrin and Buffalo horn handled ones are made by Camillus.
I also like Queens in D2 steel and Schatt and Morgan's in ATS 34.
Spyderco ParaMilitary is a great folding knife with S30V blade.
Spyderco are US Made. (http://www.spyderco.com/) While they only have a few true hunting knives, they are sharp and made in the USA.
The custom route might be more to your liking though. But they aren't cheap. Cheap knives are made in China.
Buck knives, all you need
You can still find some USA-made Buck knives. Also some of the pre-sellout Old Timers and Schrades. All the Marbles folders I've seen have been made in China, so I'm not sure if any of them are US-made.
I'm not sure about Case... someone told me they weren't making them in PA anymore...
If you're serious about going the custom route, check out a few of the knifemaking forums. They generally have links to members websites. You'll find a few folders that are in the 100-150 range. As John said, they aren't cheap.
HUH?
I thought that Spyderco knives were....
Proudly Made in SEKI CITY JAPAN
Bark River Knife and Tool out of Michigan. All American made with A-2 Steel and convexed to a razor sharp edge.
If you can live without stag handles, you can buy a Buck 110 Folding Hunter at WalMart for $30.00 or so, made in the good ol' USA, and the original folding hunter. They can make one with stag panels, too, at the factory on special order.
Case makes a great knife here in the US, too.
I bought a folding pocket knife at Denton Hill from a dealer, what a great recommendation. It is a "Queen Cutlery Co. #2, made in Titusville, PA.
I have a 110 folder I bought 25 yr ago. I was thinking of replacing the scales. You could always do that..
bark river knifes are outstanding...a little cheaper would be gerber...which i think is made in oregon.
Here's a picture of some knives I have.

The one at top left is made by Bowen and is a trapper with stag handle. It is an anniversary addition for the LL Bean company. I'm not sure if Bowen is still in business.
The one next to it is an old Gerber made in Portland OR.

Yep...Case knives are still made in the US. Buck knives are made offshore. The California labor market essentially made them non competitive and while they made a decent knife, it couldn't touch Case in terms of quality.
Yep tell me about it. I was in the Walmart last hunting season looking in the knife case. I saw a nice GERBER folding hunter. The price was right . I should have said to myself that's too cheap for a GERBER.An yway when I was opening up the box I saw those words Made In China.I have a couple of KERSHAWS all US made I think their still made in the US.By the way that Kershaw doesn't hold an edge for beans.
I carry a carbon steel yelloow handle case trapper, best pocket knife made!, good price too
A Trapper style is my favorite knife. Case and Cammilus are excellent and economical.
Buck has a new factory here in N. Idaho. 1-208-262-0500.
Hard to beat a case xx, some buck knives are still made here. Queen, schatt morgan, all good.My favorites are, case mid folding hunter, buck 112,110, schatt morgan mountain man folder. That is to just name a few I have kicking around.
Mike
Lots of good knives still made in the U.S. I used to live in Olean, NY home of Ka-Bar. Case, Camillus, Queen, Schatt Morgan etc... all up there too. I just picked-up a Schatt Morgan Barlow a few weeks ago ... very nice.
O.K... So let's say I spend $150 on a custom trapper w/ a stagg handle... What's the best metal for the blade?? I would like to have one that holds a razor edge and keeps it..... Don't really mind about how long it'll take me to sharpen, cause I'll do it at the house.....
Ats-34 is good steel and usually holds a good edge for awhile. One of my friends is a full time knife maker and this is all he usually uses, customers seem to really like it.

Yep Kershaw is made in the USA. Mine holds a edge really good and I do lots of cutting.
I know this isn't a folder, but I have had my eyes on one of these for a while:

The Compact Hunter's Companion knife comes with stag scales for $130.

Mine says Seki Japan on the blade... May want to check...
I have to put in my vote for Knives of Alaska. Best knives I've ever owned...bar none. 100% American made.

Crucible s30v is supposed to be the "best" knife steel these days. I also like 01 and D2 tool steel as well as nicely made Damascus.
Any of those steels, if they are properly tempered and heat treated should make a great blade.
I don't buy off the shelf knives anymore, as I've found several knife makers on #bay that will make knifes exactly the way I want them.
Best of luck.
Try cumberland knife works on e-bay stores. They have lots of queen and other knives(trappers) made in the US. You can spend as much as your heart desires.
Mike
I forgot to add ATS-34, D2, you can't go wrong with either. Very good steels, D2 is almost classified as stainless and ATS-34 is just into the stainless cat.
Mike
I just bought a new Spyderco military.Box and blade both state made in Golden CO. USA.I have others that are made in Japan.I was suprised to see USA, anyone know whats up? Maybe the Gerry act?
cASE, mOOREMAKER FROM tEXAS, eMERSON KNIVES (THE BEST i OWN)...ALL ,,USA MADE... :)
I've got to throw my support to the Knives of Alaska company too. I have a number of their knives and find the D-2 steel to really hold an edge well. The little Cub bear is as fine a caping knife as I've ever seen, the Brown bear is more knife than anyone could ever need (although I believe they need to put a gut hook on the Brown Bear) and the Jaeger Muskrat combo is tough to beat. That light hunter combo is perfect for me. I like two knives combo is one sheath. Well made products that deserve a look from Americans wanting to buy American.

Not sure if they have a stag handled model available, but they are high quality knives, and they don't come cheap.
check out this website. You can probably pick up a knife here and there is a section on knife steels to help you figure out what you want for the blade. ATS34 is a nice metal and hold up pretty well. I think VG10 is a little better for stainless and D2 is a good choice for non. Here is the site:
http://www.agrussell.com/
I forgot to add that you just won't be able to beat Buck's $30 blades for anything less than $100 in other brands. Great heat treat and very good steel.
OPPS Sorry Problem Child your 100% correct I should have said and I meant to say my Chinese Gerber doesn't hold an edge for beans it's my Kershaws that are scary sharp. I have a little kershaw folding skinner that's made from Kai Steel man is that knife sharp and holds an edge forever!!
Well guys I finally broke down and broke the bank. I went ahead and ordered 3 Case Knives. 1 trapper w/bone stag, 1 (2)blade Hunter w/bone stag, and 1 (2) blade blue bone pocket hunter..... All for under $150.
Really hope these knives are are good as I remember. My Dad use to swear by them.... Feels good buying Amer. Made anyway.....
they are awsome knives
I LOVE my Benchmade, but you gotta watch, they have a line of cheaper priced knives that are made overseas. The American made models are top quality.
I even went all out and bought one for my daughter when she started hunting :D
