Well I'm gonna get a new bow made by John McDonald and I know I want Osage limbs but looking for other options for handle material. I'm thinking Osage and Wenge...I like the contrast this might have between the two. I sure would like to see some pics of your Osage bows or suggestions, what ya got!
Dark stained curly maple looks cool. Gabon Ebony ( most guys I know hate to work with it ) is real dark and would contrast nicely.
I think Good dark cocobolo with osage is jsut plain sexy - especially if one uses accents of each in the bow.
Good luck Joe.
Bob.

Another vote for Coco and Osage
Congrats on the new bow. The last one I had John make had a zircote riser but an osage I-beam in the middle. The zircote is dark but still has some lighter figure in the wood. The limbs are black glass and the whole thing works well. Not alot of osage but maybe enough to give you an idea.

Where's the picture? I love my River Runner and have been thinking of another. I'd love to see a picture.
Joe,
Any bow made by John is a fine piece of work. Make sure you share some pictures.

Osage and Bacote.... it's aged now and the osage matches the Bacote much better.

Charlie, That is the best looking handle that I have ever seen!
Do you have a picture of the complete handle and bow?

Here are a couple shots of a Bama Bow I had Nate make for me at the end of last year. Told him I wanted something clean and basic...that I could take to the woods. Wanted to go with a light colored wood to contrast with the black. He recommended some native Oklahoma Osage he had. This one is new and doesn't have that nice Osage age on it yet.

Joe, ask John to see the ebony he has. I am finishing a bow he made right now with it. It is killer, look good with osage in my opinion.

Brian, do you have a pic of the Ebony by any chance?? You ever work with Wenge, wondering how that would look with Osage...

Same bow 20 months later
(http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc452/ghermon/IMG_20130219_131258.jpg)
different lighting, but the osage has mellowed nicely.
I had a Fox longbow bacote and osage,it looked great when the osage aged, wish I had pic's.
Killer Bee... that's a "Sunbear" made by an obscure bowyer in Missouri. I don't think he makes them anymore.
Real nice checkering Charlie. I have done that same pattern a lot of times. Buttttttt on rifles. I love the ribbons going through it. very classy.
God bless you all, Steve
Brian, I plan on visiting John the first of March. I have a gift for him, plus I have to see what he is working on and see if I fall for another of his bows. I want to find out about building a bow from wood from our farm. How often do you get over by him? I am about 40 minuts away. Is the bow you are working on, still there?

Bob, I like the looks of the Gabon as well, I'm thinking this would go great with Osage!
Joe, How about some highly figured rosewood? It comes from a real gray color to a deep red color.
Charlie, can you still get Rosewood, I thought it was banned?
How about Honduras Rosewood and Osage?

Thanks Charlie...... That bow is a beauty !
Some beautiful bow pictures guys. I am partial to osage/cocobolo. But after seeing some of these bow pictures there are several woods that looks good with osage.
Osage and cocobolo vote here.
Cut and glued these sister riser blocks up today. Osage and Bocote. (http://i1336.photobucket.com/albums/o641/cengert74/a16cca97-4653-42c0-aca1-86660aa7a9c6_zpse8ae5e74.jpg) (http://i1336.photobucket.com/albums/o641/cengert74/3c3397f8-21f5-46fc-987f-e9f747147160_zps304a946a.jpg)

Thats awesome!
Well I decided on Macassar Ebony to go along with the Osage! Should be a good match!
Anyone have this combo in a bow??
