Title: Brace height and bow noise
Post by: Burnsie on August 22, 2007, 10:28:00 PM
Can too low a brace height result in a loud bow?
Been messing around with my new Rose Oak trying to get it tuned.  It developed a load "thwack" sound after I installed some Hush Puppies.  Couldn't figure it out, then I noticed my brace height was lower (must have lost some twist in the string while it was off)  I've twisted it back up, but it's dark out now, I'll give it a try tomorrow to see if there is any difference.

Yep that's it Burnsie. If the recommended brace height is say 7 1/2 on a new bow/string I would twist up 1/4 more to 7 3/4 allow for stretch. All strings will.By the way it's a good way to wack your forearm too low brace height.

Once I get my brace height set, I use an old arrow and mark it with tape so that when I nock it, the tape is just touching the rest. Then I can see if I need to go up or down.
