Title: SBD string and Morrison brace height
Post by: The Night Stalker on February 14, 2013, 08:32:00 PM
I put a new SBD ultra thin string on a Morrison ILF 62 inch .  The brace height is 8 inches and Bob said it should be 6-3/4 to 7inches. I do not think the string will stretch that much and I am afraid to untwist it.  What do you think?

You might contact Pierre at SBD strings.  He was very helpful when I had questions.

I emailed him, I might need a string that is a inch longer.

I highly doubt you will get that much stretch. I have a FF endless loop string on my bow and after about a week of draw and hold, about 40 arrows and being left strung. I have had less than a 1/4" of change. I was able to twist it and get a little movement.

I shoot my Morrisons about an inch higher than what he recommends.  Just saying.....

Anyone else shoot their Morrison above the recommended brace height . I am trying to find a good starting point for my 62 inch ILF

I shoot my Gen3 17" with Max1 long limbs at 7 1/2", that works best for my 3 under shooting
 Take care, Brad

I set mine @ 7 1/4 on my mini 14 with recuve and longbow limbs, seems to work best for me and I am using SBD strings. Good luck.

I've owned several Morrisons and found that  they shot best for me at 7 3/8 religiously. But those were the Shawnee and Cheyenne. Quite possibly going to be different than the ILF.

Twobows we are shooting the same bow.

Try it.  Every bow is a little different.

I had the same issue and I'm send the string back and getting one 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch longer. I could get  to a 7 1/2" brace height which shot great but I would like  to have more adjustability.

I've learned when I order a string to let the maker know what bow it is going on. Some bows, like Shrew longbows, take a string 3" shorter than the bow instead of 4" like the typical accepted longbow string length formula.

I have been trying different things. I have two SBD strings. Today I shot the brace height at 7-3/4 to 7-7/8. I was not impressed with the performance so tomorrow I will change to my other string which will pt the brace height around 7-1/4.

I have a set of the MAX I limbs on my DAS riser as well as my wife's. The 6 3/4" brace height works well for both of us. You will loose performance with the higher brace height.

The Max1 limb is a different animal. with a 28" draw maximum performance will be a Short limb or Medium limb max. Braced at 6.5"-7" Max.A Long limb 30" is optimal brace 6.75-7.25. Higher brace heights result in a easier tuning arrow, and less performance, higher brace even lower performance.
If you have to have a 62" bow and have 28" draw, best option is a 19" riser and Med or short limbs.
17" riser with D (Long) limbs and 28" draw will be super smooth Braced 7.25" or higher performance will suffer.

Night Stalker, I know how to fix your problem. You have been on every Web site I go to. So I want you to send the limbs back ASAP for a refund, so that you can find a set that works for you.

I am not shooting the MAX1 limbs on my Morrisons.  I have shot them though, and they are unbelievable.  But I get awesome performance with my CF limbs and Bamboo limbs with my SBD strings around an inch higher as I stated earlier.  Each person is different I guess.

I have the MAX1 limbs on a Phoenix 17 inch riser.  My brace is set at 6 1/2 inches and is both quiet and fast.  Failed to mention, the limbs are extremely smooth and spits a 10 gpp arrow out there.  Did I mention fast?  Bob would be hard pressed to pull these out of my hands.
