I am wondering what my fellow Trad Gangers consider their "go to" string and serving material? Flemish or endless? Thanks for entertaining my question! Have a great day.
endless 8125G or 8190 62xs serving..halo isn't bad either...
Flemish Twist....Ultra Cam.....Halo...
I have been using this for several years ..works for me...Alot of other options.
Normally flemmish, D97, and halo. Last 3 strings I used some different colors of #4 nylon even though it will wear out much faster.

I typically use fast flight plus (14 strands) served with Crown serving.
flemish D-10 w/halo serving
Flemish,astroflight,62 xs
I used D-97 with halo for several years, then I switched to D-10 recently, but I can't tell a whole lot difference of between the two. For my ~ 50# bows I go with 10 strand D-10 flemish, loops padded to 16 strands with dacron, halo serving. I always tie on a double nocking point with string material, either cat whiskers or hush puppies for silencing.
Zane
I'm a big fan of Halo.
8 strands of BCY 10 string served with BCY 62.
I like for endless and flemish 8190 material about 12 to 14 strand with either 2 or 3 ply (depending on bow) with extra strands in loops for both and have used Halo ever since they came out(like the colors) but now Im playing more and more with crown serving and have used all of BCY string materials over the years the 8190 is tops in my opinion..never had very much luck with Brownell brands as I have had more string breakage ..never broke a BCY string YET but thats me..last XS2 material I used and broke 3 strings in a week so no more for me other than serving
D-97 or D-10 10 strand.
Angel Majesty serving always.
I am not too picky on string material. However I feel Crown serving is the slickest and most durable. I shoot an endless string and feel most people would find it to be superior to flemish strings.
Flemish 2ply 8 strand 8190 with 62xs .21 over .18 braid, loops padded to 16.
Ultra Cam and halo
I just stick to flemish D-97, mostly 8 strands with double serving of #4 nylon. Works great for me. Since I have plenty of these materials I see no reason to switch.
450+ on longbows
Endless two color (orange/black) 8125G, end served with BCY 3D, and center served with .024 Halo.
8125 and Polygrip
This is great! What is the difference between d97, 8125, and 8125g. Nominal? They all seem to be great materials.
After watching and learning to "Do the twist" from Chad's video, I was having so much fun that I went nuts and bought so many spools of different materials, colors, and serving that I lost count. I bought a lot of partial spools and still remember shelling out close to $600 in no time at all.
I learned and practiced with the cheap B-50 or B-55 material and then started into the FF materials with D97 because of the price. I make strings for myself, my friends, and now my friends friends :D I use 8125, 8125G, 452x, and Ultracam the most because that's what I currently have the most of. If I had to choose just one string material it would be 452x or Ultracam. I can't really tell much difference between these two materials but I can definitely tell the difference between these two and all the others that I have tried.....especially with skinny strings. Serving is easier for me....Halo all the way. Most of my personal strings are 10 strands of either 452x or Ultracam.
Take care,
Jason
Mostly 8125, 12 strands double served with Angel Majesty .015..
I've made a few lately with 14 strands of 8190 still double served with the .015
Jasper, what makes the 452x or Ultracam your choice over the others. I've not used either of these two yet..
Pat,
I actually think it has more to do with bow design than anything else because I notice very little difference in some bows and a huge difference in others. That being said, 452x and Ultracam quiet some of bows considerably and change the overall sound and feel of the shot to more of deep "thump" which I prefer even with fairly light carbon arrows. Additionally, these two materials have proven the most stable to me in terms of stretch and creep regardless of temperature. This becomes even more apparent with low strand count strings and it takes a lot more twisting to adjust the BH so I don't like messing with it if I don't have to.
I put all of my strings on a stretching jig under 200+# of tension and leave them anywhere from 4 to 10 hours. This has shown some interesting results with certain materials even after the string has "settled in" Lastly, these materials have a different "feel" to them as well, possibly because of the amount of Vectran, and it just seems easier for me to consistently twist a nice string even with very small diameter bundles.
Take care,
Jason
By the way, I'd like to give a shout out to Glenn Mcpherson (L82HUNT) from Missouri for sending me some sample material and turning me on to UltraCam.
Jim Neaves of Centaur Archery has been known to spend plenty of time testing things in search of the best. He currently uses and recommends UltraCam strings on his bows and that's good enough for me.....That guy is the man! :notworthy:
Take care,
Jason
Sounds like I better get a spool of UC !!!
Thanks for the info.
Sounds like a plan!
Most of my hunting bows still take Dacron. But for my recurves that will handle it, Angel Majesty, with Angel Majesty Serving.
