I'm in Barrie along with four other guys that shoot Trad.  A couple of us belong to York County Bowmen which has been around since 1956 and is just outside of Newmarket. Trad archery is getting stronger within the club which also has a good number of Olympic and compound archers. We have about 300 members, indoor 20 yd range and outdoor 3D on 50 or so acres. If you are in the area, drop me a PM and let's go shooting.

There's a fair sized archery club in TBAY, couple of 3d shoots each season etc. And a lot of Bowhunters but only a handful of guys hunting traditional. Like I  said I'm still fairly new to it though so there might be more I just haven't run into yet

Thanks.  My two boys asked me to take them backcountry bowhunting this year.  I nearly fell over.  Can't wait to come home and start getting ready.  A year overseas missing my family and hunting.  Now I get the best of both.

Us Barrie boys have been going for 8 years now and it is worth the drive. The courses are excellent and venders are usually some of the best out there. If you get a chance check it out.

I'm not from Canada but I sure enjoy threads like this as I've been in several different provinces and it's fun to see where people who's posts I've read for years both on this site and others are from. Some of these places I've passed through and have fond memories of.

The chances are slim but guys I'd love to meet someday are Sergio, Damascus Dave and Bert Frelink. Many others...   :)

Just try and make a technical error while shooting and prepare to feel the wrath of Harl. Trad is alive and well in Ontario.

Hello Michael, Bob from Waterloo, Ontario just getting back into traditional archery. Started with traditional for twenty years then went to a compound and crossbow. I decided to go back to traditional just recently. I have purchased a Great Northern Super Ghost 62 inch 55 lbs @ 28 inches. Looking forward to turkey season. Would love to get up your way for moose hunting again.

Just spotted this thread.

I haven't been around much lately because of building a new home, but I promise, I'll be back with a vengeance when it's finally finished... right now, I'm in a race to finish for bear season!

Waskaganish is a small native community on the shore of James Bay at the mouth of the Rupert River.

Just a question for the participants on this forum - not sure if this should be a new thread or not. However, for the respondents here, do you belong to a traditional only organization within your home territory or any club that has a united front for traditional or primitive archery and/or bowhunting. It would seem Ontario has a lot of archery organizations, however, very few unique to traditional archery - the odd traditional gathering here and there, but not aware of any other specific clubs than KTAC ( Kawartha Traditional Archers)

I don`t think there is any purely bowhunter organizations in Ontario anymore after the oba [ Ontario bowhunters assocciation ] disolved so there is no Traditional Asso. here that I know of. Soooo . Not to many Trad shoots anymore due to much work for us old f---ts to organize these days . Bill from KTAC does his best for a one man effort but targets are expensive to keep up .

Hello from Calgary Alberta , we have quite a large following of traditional archers here and throughout Alberta north south east and west. There are some great hunting opportunities here, but the hardest most times is just getting permission to hunt on some of these properties. There are many shoots throughout the year so you get to shoot under many conditions as you would get in many hunting situations, you get an opportunity to shoot with and meet some awesome people here from all over, and not just from Alberta. The 2 biggest shoots that we have for me are the NALS= North American Longbow Safari that rotates between a location one year here in Canada and following year in the United States, the other big shoot is the Heritage Classic Jamboree that is put on through the ATBA= Alberta Traditional Bowhunters Association, which is open to both longbows and recurve shooter, the NALS is longbow only and broadheads only other than flu flu arrows for the aerial targets which have field points.
These are the biggest traditional archery shoots but there are many more that take place giving archers a chance to shoot, meet, meet some of the great traditional bowyers that also come and setup at these shoots, as well as some of the traditional suppliers of archery related gear from shafting , feathers, points, arm guards etc, and make some great friends because over time these shoots are like big family get togethers because over time we do become a very close and closer knit family. So come on out, loose some arrows and become part of the family brotherhood extended family, if you are a loner and just want to shoot then that will be respected as well, but just come on out and shoot and have fun.
