I had a nice piece of leather and decided to put it on my new TT. It's covering pristine checkering but I think it looks real nice. I first wet the leather and stretched it around the handle and used clamps to hold it in place for a couple days to dry. I trimmed it a bit and repeated. I used natural colored artificial sinew for thread. It ended up a little looser and the top and bottom than I wanted. I might take it off and trim it a bit tighter which shouldn't take long at all but I think I'll leave it as is for now. I put neatsfoot oil on it hoping it might shrink a little so it's a bit darker now.

The toughest part is finding the right piece of leather. I found a Tandy leather store and went through bins of scraps to find pieces. This was the only piece that I found that was useful. The work itself is very simple.
Wow, that looks cool. Do you use any type of adhesive in addition to getting it wet? That looks really well done. Good job.
I'd re-wrapped a Griffin and there was adhesive from the maker so I used adhesive on that one. I didn't want to ruin the pristine checkering so I used no adhesive. I wet and wrapped it a couple of times to completely form it so I didn't have to use a glue. Had I used adhesive I could easily get the top and bottom tight.
That is impressive that it was done without glue, and I can see why you didn't. Cool homepage too, enjoyed looking through the pics.
That's one of the purtiest TT's I've seen...!! Good job on the grip!

Nice job, looks very good.
Wow, that turned out great. Nice work.
You did a great job!
Well done !
i was thinking about doing that on a couple bows - nice work!
I may remove it this weekend and reduce the overall length to expose more of the wood since it's quite a bit longer than the width of my palm. I should be able to trim it up a bit and tighten it. If I do, I'll post more pics. I'll also show pics of the leather removed from the bow.
Very nice!

Looks fantastic !
It does look good, but I really like the checkering Brian does. Not sure I could cover that up.
Great looking grip.
Wow, lots of shape and contours in that handle! Good job!
First-class work.
Looks good!
Thank you for all the kind words!
Although I'd really like to shorten the wrap to more match my wrist size I decided not to do a thing. The neatsfoot oil kept it a beautiful dark brown and it shrank nice and tight.
very nice!
Very nice....can you described how you clamped it to dry.....I have a similar grip that I want to cover and when I'm doing a dry run it seems like the leather will never conform to the curves in the handle (but it can obviously be done looking at the job you did on yours).
Thanks

Soak the leather until it's dripping. Pat it dry with a towel and start wrapping it around the handle. Stretch it where it needs so that it's as smooth as you can make it around the handle. I used something similar to these (http://www.woodcraft.com/category/2000333/plastic-spring-clamps.aspx) for clamps although mine have rubber tips rather than plastic. You should be able to use wooden clothes pins as well.
Thanks Brian.....I do have some spring clamps...so I'll give it a go!
