As most of you remember, I put up a turkey hunt/raffle back during the St Jude auction. My friend Marty McMahon graciously agreed to add a 3 day hog hunt for the winner If I would come down and hunt as well. Michael Langahans' youngest daughter, Mills, was drawn as the winner by tradgang Icon Bernie Dunn.
After much anticipation, my van is loaded and i'm leaving in the morning. spending the night in jacksonville fl with an old army buddy and then on to meet Marty and crew at noon thursday.
Spent 3 hours at ungent care sunday getting my finger stitched up but the good news is I can still shoot my bow and my broadheads are scary sharp. lol
I'm trying to talk my local Harley shop guy out of a banner to bring for the buggy.
We'll get Mills to start a thread when we get back to give yall a taste of being there.
Here's three pics to get the ball rolling.

Did I mention they were sharp?
Good luck to you Don. Keep us updated.
:campfire: :campfire: :campfire:
Dang! Feed them broadheads there blood hungry.
Alright, Don! Y'all have fun!
Best let somebody else dress your hogs for you with that wound. Good luck and safe travels!
LOL - great start, buddy, love the "Hog" banner from the Harley shop. Can't wait to see Mills' pics and write-up. Good luck and be safe - all of you, (and YOU keep your fingers away from THAT end of the arrows, Don - LOL).
Maybe the wound is a fake and it was intended for someone else to clean his hogs.....just sayin.
Good luck, I will be watching this one!!!
But then again, it hurts to just look at.
Good luck to you guys, and gal!
Bisch
Hey Don! Good luck to you guys! Be safe!
Good luck, I know this will be good! :campfire:
Looking like a fine time in the making.....
I thought you were supposed to test a blade's sharpness with a rubber band? Good luck and don't touch those pretty silver ends again.
Best of luck to you all!!!
Now Don, if you think that little scratch is going to get you out of skinning that young ladies hog you are sadly mistaken!
This is gonna be AWESOME!!!
Lookin' forward to the updates!
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
 Gonna keep an eye on this one! Glad you got patched up and are able to shoot still!
Marty is the most gracious host I've ever known and he has a great place for hogs. You guys are gonna have a blast!
I hope Batman remembers my Valentines Day flowers!
Biggie c'mon down I need company around the fire.

Marty, I sent a text request in with Batman about an hour ago to lay a big 'ol wet one on ya for me :jumper:
Huh? Is this Valentine's thing getting a little too carried away, Guru? :D (Marty will be spitting for a week or more  )
Guru- IT WAS A JOKE- no wet ones!!!!!'
Great place , great guide, great host....mix together and you get a great fun adventure.
You are in for a treat! Take plenty of pictures - looking forward to this one!
:bigsmyl:
I'm having the steamed cabbage at waltaboro Cracker Barrel. Should have no problem laying a big old wet one on him. Oh you meant a kiss. 53 miles to Ga line.
Hey Don, you're from New Bern? My family is from Wilson and Little Washington. Bet you know where to find sharks teeth!

Thanks for the invite. There's nothing I'd rather do but I'll have to take a rain check. Jill's knee replacement isn't far enough along for me to leave her alone. Drink a hot coffee for me!
Sounds like your gonna have a good time! we have a front coming thru right now, it should cool things down for this weekend.
Biggie, I guess Jill's knee finally gave out after all these years of waiting on you. Lol. Will miss you. Gonna try and talk Marty into coming up for the turkey hunt. See you in April
Alligator, I was raised in Johnston county so I know where Wilson is. I'm an hour from Washington now and I got a to. Of sharks teeth.
I'm not far from our meetin place now. Got to hit the gym and the go find a flower shop and I'll be on my way.

:campfire: stories!!
no word from Don this AM .. Reports are he was putting on a show atna Fireworks stand on 95 . he was knocking bottle rockets out of the air with that new Centuar longbow for a crowd of Canadian Snowbirds.
Hey Don,
Have fun and be careful with those sharp objects. :archer:
Raining here, 80 miles north of the property. Heard it's heavy around the Big Lake. Stay dry guys. Don, the actual town I was born in is Lucama , just past Kenly. Black Creek runs thru the family property, arrowhead central!
Well, it's been raining since we got here-stopped long enough to take them out and put them on stand on the buggy, by the time I got back to camp I was soaked. They are hanging in there , I've had no requests to pick them up yet and it is starting to slow to a drizzle now so maybe something will move! I'll let y'all know what happens after the first sit. Mills did not complain one bit and scurried up the ladder!
You know they'll probably come back with a panther sighting.
Marty,You know you won't hear any complaining from those Langehans. They live near a Marine base. Rain storms are Marine Corp Sunshine!!!!!!
Now Don on the other hand.......................lol
Marty and his hunting place are top notch ... great fun and some really nice hogs.
:campfire: this will be good !
Wonder if Don and Marty are spooning now?
It was Valentines Day Joey...
No sightings except Don had a couple deer come in late- Woods called for an early ride and Mills and Michael were thankful for the big umbrella I gave them at last minute. Might still be rainin in am but spossed to clear up for the rest of the weekend. They enjoyed the venison burgers and fries as always.
Usually takes me a day to figure out where the pigs are and the rain will confirm fresh sign- I'm gonna do my best to get Ms Mills a hog.....She proved how tuff she was last evening- zero complaints about the rain!
Sounds like Michael has him a great little trooper coming up there. Don doesn't worry about rain either, except when they are trying to harvest the hay crops - LOL. Now me, I hate doing anything in the rain, Marine as I am - Well, other than sleeping that is - so, kudos to the young huntress, Mills, for attitude.
Them Langahans' are a tough bunch...I bet Woods just wanted some buggy time ;)
I have no doubt Marty will do everything in his power to get everyone into the hogs...only a matter of time and the forecast looks great for the weekend
Things have started off well this morning ;) :campfire:
Everything was moving over on this side of 27 this morning. I saw deer, pigs and turkeys on a trip up to Lake placid and then back to Venus this morning around 8. Good luck guys!
All Marty can do "is put em on them"
They asked me to post these for them....
Marty Mission accomplished!!! :notworthy:
I'll leave the details for the hunters when they get back...
She's a great little hunter!!

There will be plenty more :campfire:
And remember....St Judes gets a free pass on 'other weapons'...always has...just in case some didn't know or some forgot.
Way to go GIRL!!!!!
:campfire: OUTSTANDING!!!
So yesterday I get to Oceechobee and call Marty to tell him I'm here. He says he's an hour away and can I run to the feed store and get corn. Sure I say. Then he sends me to the meat place for this special ga smoked sausage. Before I can leave there be text and tells me to go to Walmart and pick up 3 5 gal gas cans. We finally meet at store and he hugs me and tells me to get 10 bags of ice and put in his truck. Got mill's hog in freezer and breakfast dishes washed and put away. Everyone is napping and Marty told me after I get done changing the oil and greasing the buggy, I should rest for pm hunt. Havering a blast so far.
Gosh i miss him!...Don, do like Schuster and pull the bad back routine on him. it has worked for 20 years.
Has he showed you where all palmetto heads where the hog dogs have died? spot, shorty, biscuit and etc?
how was the temp in the trailer? last night
:clapper: :clapper: Mills...way to go girl, look forward to our turkey hunt
I'm in the spot where Marty caught the live hog on the primal dream II film.
Joey , he told me that if I had a couple extra days, he'd show me all the spots where you didn't kill a turkey
Congratulations Mills!!!! :clapper:
Had the pleasure of meeting the Langehans a few weeks ago. Mills took a pig then as well. Those turkeys better watch out...
Don good to see you working!
Good shooting Mills! Congratulations!!!! Phase one of two complete.
Ok Woods, your turn. Unless of course that Widow has lost it's venom....... :scared:
Little girls and St. Jude mojo is the best!
Congrats Ms. Mills!!!!!
Way to go Mills, nice shoot'n
Nice pink gloves boys !
Oh your if I see a hog this morning ill bust it wide open :readit: :archer2:
Well Mills saw two this morning and bust them both open
I missed and woods got lost. Marty's trying to fit us both in the punishment stand this pm
Come on Woods get after'm :jumper: :jumper: :archer2:
I can't believe I mmmmmmissed- Marty has me do nervous I can't shoot! I hope he has me back to redeem myself!
Very funny. If you ever come here. Keep your phone on you at all times. And sleep on your back with one eye open
Young Mills is laying the smack down on those piggies!!!!!!
Congrats nice going. :clapper:
Too cool!
Way to go Miss Mills
Sounds like a great hunt all around and like maybe Mills was the only "getter" among all the "hunters" down there. :D :clapper: Good on ya, young lady.
  Congrats
Awesome  :clapper: :clapper:
So happy to see guys raising their kids in the woods! Papaw always said, if you raise your children hunting, you won't ever be hunting your children.
A big pat on the back to all you guys. Batman and Marty for making it happen, and Mills for giving us all hope for the future
What Biggie said! :clapper: :clapper:
Just rolled in my drive about an hour ago. Good time is a big understatement.
We Will try and get to the truth about all that happened on this trip but I doubt Marty can be trusted to tell it like it really happened.
Mills got it done and then some. I'm sure she will fill yall in when she gets a chance. She has been very busy the last few days. good night.
Good stuff, guys and gals! Congratulations again, Mills! Can't wait to see the rest of the pics and hear the story in detail.
Great job all. Will anxiously await the story from the young lady
Way to go Lil Miss Mills! Good job guys for doing this!
Way to go Mills! :clapper: :clapper:
Wow! From the pix I saw and what I heard...Miss Mills cleaned house!
Marty and Don :notworthy:
Way to go Mills! :clapper:
Oh yea! Smile says it all! Great job! :clapper: :clapper:
My Iphone would not let me post on tg after I started for some reason, so my blow by blow went by the wayside.
We had a great weekend and I will let Mills tell her side of the story. She was VERY successful. Woods and Batman were a different story. They can tell their story too. See Batman, I didn't tell them about your miss or the big one that you got "hog" fever on. It was the same stand Terry Green killed a big one on and he closed the deal.
Woods had lots of excuses, but I think the biggest reason he didn't score was because he didn't hear from his girlfriend Chloe all weekend- he was mumbling around camp in his fake British accent about her not calling!
Looking forward to the story and more hero pics.
I will say that Batman makes quick work of cleaning one and putting it in the cooler in time to to the dishes after dinner- he is a good camp bi.......
QuoteOriginally posted by Marty:

AH HA!!!!...That completely EXPLAINS IT !!!!
Woods is 007 !!!!
You say what I'll tell you I don't have a girlfriend and second I didn't feel comfortable with a shot the first time and then I pulled the second time but then my glove made squeak on the string so that spooked the hogs.!!! :banghead:  :deadhorse:
And who is 007 James Bond ?!
Oh by the the names Bond, James Bond
Told you Marty would get the facts all wrong. I'll try and sort it all out for y'all tonight
Something about that place causes epic shooting failures ....so I've been told
Fake British accent????? Ha ha, too rich. Pops said he got it from watching Tele Tubbies. Way to score Miss Mills. :notworthy:

In Texas he was using a real British accent and talking about his fake girlfriend. That seemed to be a better combination for him. :D
:biglaugh: Gregg you are on the money with that one!
Well I'll try and bring everyone up to speed on the way I saw it unfold. I know Mills is trying to rest up after killing all the hogs and on top of that, stopping off in Georgia on the way home and kicking some more butt at a gymnastics meet. Congrats sweetie.
As Marty already said, He put us out in the rain the first day. I had two nice does come in right at dark. I was glad He drove the truck to pick us up as I was getting a little chilly from being soaked.
Next morning we all had high hopes. We got everyone on stand and then on to my spot. all of a sudden Marty stops the buggy and throws a corn bag on the ground. It's pitch dark and he tell me that if I don't have any action after my feeder goes off, I should walk back to the bag and head east to another feeder. When we got to my tree he tells me that Gene Wensel shot 3 nice pigs out of this tree. I was full of anticipation. soon after it got light , 2 more does came in and started eating the corn Marty threw off the buggy. Chummin corn, he calls it. Good thing too cause the feeder never went off. Dead battery. I told him that I bet if Gene was sitting there he would have had a fresh battery. He text me back some nonsense and told me to go to the bag and head east. I found the bag but no trail. I asked where the trail was. There aint no trail you idiot, just head east about 450 yards and the feeder is right there by some live oaks and palmettos. Well if you been to Marty's you know that narrows it down to about 7000acres.
I whipped out my compass and started east. about 200 yards into my walk i felt the wind on my neck. My puffer bottle confirmed I was walking with the wind. I took about 10 more steps and man there was some piggy smelling mud. then two good size hogs busted out of a palmetto bush and headed straight away. I figured i'd just go back and find the corn bag and wait. More to come.
On my way back to the corn bag I heard a shot. I just grinned and kept walking. I heard the buggy way out east of me and then got a text. "I'm at the feeder where are you?" Back at the corn bag, the wind was wrong. " the hogs were here dummy". They came around and picked me up and were all smiles about the hog Mills had put the smack on. Marty mumbled something about a punishment stand and we went back to camp so I , with Michael's help, could clean the hog. Side Note: I had been talking to tippit about the strip method of skinning these critters and we tried it out on this one. By the time the weekend was over we were getting pretty good at it. Thanks to Mills for providing so many training aids.
During the day we were entertained by riding around to check feeders while Woods shot at armidillos and coons with his Gamo pellet rifle. It is really an effective weapon on these pests.
More later
Don, it sounds to me that you were the camp whupping boy! But that's only my perception. :)
Naw,Mike - Don is just an inveterate "volunteer" - he cain't hep his se'f. It all stems from his Daddy bringing him up right, as a hard-charging farm boy and construction crew go'fer, in his formative years - it's what made "batman" the super-hero he is today :D

THE PUNISHMENT STAND.
I was trying hard to do good so I wouldn't end up in this tree. All the more so since Woods was trying hard to beat me to it and it didn't appear to be much room for one hunter not to mention, two.
Marty dropped off everyone in the dark again and once again I was last. Still really dark as I climbed up in my stand. As the shadows started to grow I heard a low grunt. Thats real close for me cause I can't hear much at all. Two pigs came from out front and then a larger (100 ish) joined in on the chum corn. Was waiting for a little better shooting light when I heard a shot. I grinned again and checked the time. 6:37 am. My pigs started getting jumpy and I knew that If i didn't get a shot off , Marty would really be mad at me. I came to full draw and cut one loose. appeared to be a tad forward but a pass through as I could see the arrow on the ground and the pigs bolted. I sat there replaying the shot in my mind. About then I heard another shot. I was really grinning then. text mssg confirmed what I already figured. 2 more dead hogs ala Mills. I climbed down to find my arrow broken off an inch behind the broadhead. No blood no head. Peanut confirmed no hit. Must have got a deflection on an unseen limb in the dark and hit under hog who ran over my arrow and broke it off. Yea I suck.
I could tell Marty was feeling bad for me. I started to feel better when he put his arm on my shoulder and said" Man don't worry about it" feeling alot better now I was until he finished his sentence. " You just aint good enough" . Man , what a pep talk.
Off to do some farm work. I'll be back tonight and finish up my adventure.
Wow....
Can't believe it's over again so fast.
Mill's has gym from 4-8 tonight so it might be tomorrow before she gets to post anything.
Thank you Don for coming up with this great idea and thank you Marty for jumping in to support it as well.
All Marty can do is get you on'm Sunny boy ....
Sure sounds like a good old time had by all, thanks for sharing the laughs and CONGRATS Mills. Another huntress in the making.

Alas Kenny Boy I was guiding this trip.
You need to talk to Don and Woods about being put on them.
When I hunt with Marty stuff dies....

Don Don Don- I told you that I was once told that I wasn't good enough! Not you! You already admitted above that your hearing was gone. When I asked Don if he heard any turkey gobbling- he replied that they would have to be in his tree!!! Ha!
Michael Michael Michael- You were guiding???
Yep ... I've seen you in action
Yes Marty. Whispering to Mills"Shoot That one" counts as guiding..
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Gotcha Michael- I'll give you that one!
And ElkKen is correct- you are a great Dad!
All sounds great to me, Michael. Looking forward to meeting your youngest "sharp shooter", at her St. Jude Turkey Hunt in April.
Well my last chance was to be on saturday pm set. Marty said he was gonna put me on a stand where none other than Terry Green had killed one of his biggest hogs. Wind was 19 to 25 out of the W/NW. Marty go another of his helpers, young guy named Joe, to take me to the spot so he'd have time to station the Langahans in their evening spots. This spot i was in was really cool. It was a ladder stand with a climax loc on behind it for a camera person. Another thing that caught my eye was that Marty had put a ratchet strap on two live oaks behind the stand to pull them together to provide more back cover. A great idea that i'll likely use in the future.
About 30 min before dark I looked over to my left to see the biggest hog i'd ever seen in the woods. He came out of a swampy area and walked to the road behind me. He just stood there looking at the feeder for at least a min. The wind was directly from him to me and I was on my feet. All he had to do was come in about 15 yards. Instead, he just turned and walked back in the woods from where he came. He was a big red hog. Looked like a barrel and I'm sure he'd been cut cause when he walked away he was missing some luggage. I would have loved to have gotten a clear shot at that hog. Just seeing him made my hunt. I texted Marty and told him about my encounter. What he came back with made me laugh out load.
He said, " Terry would a got him" .
Marty McMahon is a piece of work. Ive never felt more welcome at a camp and even though Ive only been around him three times now, I'm proud to call him a friend and I hope he feels the same way.
My dad told me when I was a kid that the hunting is only 10 percent. The trip and memories made are the gravy. I'm still sopping the gravy from this one. Thanks Marty as well as Michael, Mills and Woods.
Stay tuned, Come April we gonna do it all again to the 10th power.
Your dads words are so, so true Don.
Man don't ever show Marty the slightest chink in your armor....he'll tear ya up! In a loving way of course :D
And yes, he sure is a piece of work and one of the greatest hunting camp hosts and as entertaining guy as you'll ever be around. I luv'um like a big brother!
I can't wait for Mills' Turkey hunt!!!
Okay look here I don't remember talking about Chloe at solanla and so I killed some and I didn't have my sister there either.

Awesome pix buddy! Actual hunt/kill pix are great, but the camplife/off time pix are what really tell the story of a hunt.
That picture with little Miss Mills swingin' that big 'ol axe with Marty watching is priceless :notworthy:
Yeah....great stuff...starting my day off early and right...
And I'll have to add as well....Marty is one of the best hosts a hunter could ever have. That is no lie. I once told him I'd drive 12 hours just to piss in his camp fire. Its just too much fun there, and riding in that buggy is like being on a Floridian Safari.
Mills aint so little any more, I mean, she's still small, but not that little monkey I remember. Cute as a button too. I'm sure you guys got a lot out of the hunt just from her presents.
Thanks for sharing, and if there's more...keep it coming.
And thanks to you Marty for offering up another great hunt an gesture.
That's a mighty snappy jacket that Mike customized for Mills, and she does it proud too. Great pics and tales, all around. I've enjoyed it, for sure.
For sure, Marty is a kick in the pants to be around. After seeing Mills in that pink camo, I've got to get back to the forge and re-do her Turkey Knife in pink :) tippit
Wow, I left this thread go way too long before checking back.
Congrats to Miss Mills.
Thank you all for sharing, looks like it would have been an incredible hunt to be on.
Pink skinning gloves ...nice touch for Valentine season

Marty put me in that stand once....it wasn't broken down like that though when I got in it
:dunno:
Thomas Burns was the first to receive the Punishment stand after Biggie was sentenced there. The hard part is to quickly let go with one hand- shoot- and grab the rail again before you fall!
Just told Don that I can't make the turkey hunt. I have a college reunion in the Keys that weekend. Went there a couple years ago and found out why my buddies always went to classs and studied- talk about successful. I get to stay in a house that I usually go in the service entrance! I wish I woulda studied instead of buying Rollong Rock! These guys wouldn't fly over the places we crawl through...
Don- your checks in the mail for saying nice things about me.
Notice how we got Woods to stutter on his computer about Chloe!!! He's easy
Ummm...there's an obvious question stemming from Biggie's post, but I won't ask... :knothead:
Mills really does make that hoodie look good!
I'm beginning to think the way she pounded those hogs I should have had a pig embroidered on it instead! But we will find out next month.
What is it with those Langehans and an ax? Woods swung one the whole time he was up here this fall now Mills has one swinging. Michael, there are still child labor laws out there. Even for you rebels!
If I got to live another life, second behind being Monty Browning's bow would be to come back as a Langehan's young'n.
Gotta love that crowd.
Good show from Don, Marty and crew as well.
Hey everybody!!
I am hoping to get caught up posting about our trip to Mr. Marty's.
It took forever and a day to get there. Then it wasn't what I expected. It was much nicer!!!
The swamp buggy was nice and high and tall and fun.

The first night we only saw birds :banghead: but hey, we even saw a painted bunting! then I went back to the cabin and took a really really HOT shower because I didn't know how to work the shower  the next morning was better. I can't remember all the details but here is a picture of the one I shot that morning! :biglaugh:

You go girl .... you are living the dream of most grown men hunters when you get to hunt Marty's. You have made us proud, fine job.
How did you get the " Lady Algebra " :dunno: :dunno:
You're doing fine, Miss Mills. Nice looking black pig there. Love the picture showing all the rain gathering on the bottom of your gun barrel - very descriptive imagery.

See.... CRS disease isn't just foer adults!!!!
The story is we didn't see a hog in rthe stand that am.
But Marty had a plan. We went riding in the buggy checking feeders. We pull into a long lane between the eucalyptus trees and spot several hogs under the feeder at the end of the road.
After a brief flurry of getting the 308 and the shooting sticks we were off. We ran down the road in a crouch. We cut the distance to 100 yards. We stopped and had Mills look through the scope. She couldn't see over the bushes.
The hogs were fixin to leave so we hurriedly moved again. She still couldn't see!!!!
Finally we got where she could see and she took care of the rest.
And then?
I can smell the fat lighter and Bubba now
I smell a burnt Boston Butt.
WAY TO GO Lady Algebra!
Looks like some mighty-fine BBQ right there!
Enjoy and thank you for supporting the kids at St Jude's!
Shoot straight, Shinken

The evening sit was hog free though we did see assorted other fauna.
So the next morning we were ready for some action. The first hogs came right after Marty and Don left on the buggy. It was still dark so I shined my headlamp on them and they didn't budge.
Problem was they were to our far right and we were set up to shoot out front.
We were able to adjust, much to the chagrin of the hogs.

After the second shot I got a text from Don
"Kill em all let God sort'em out."
To which he replied ; "that's the plan"
That's funny stuff.
:D

Me to! But every time I'm seeing another dead hog! Way to go Milles!!!!!! :jumper:
Gotta be the lucky sweatshirt"...........
Yep, Mike - sounds (looks) like the little lady scattered dead hogs all over the terrain, like a platoon of Marine infantry had "snooped & pooped" through there - LOL
Have you guys eaten any of those hogs yet?
We ate the front shoulders off the pink one last Thursday. They were delicious. I'll have to send you the recipe.
Good stuff everybody, specially Mills!  Thanks a bunch to all who helped, supported, contributed, and did the shootin making this a grand adventure. Looking forward to a great turkey hunt story!
Just getting caught up on this one! Looks like a great time for sure.
Congrats!
Bisch
Super thread guys!
Mills, You ever gonna finish this one up? Last I counted , your one hunt short on your story? Got to get Peanut in the thread.
Ah-ha. holding out on us, huh? ;)
Well, time is scooting right along (even though Spring seems to have "scooted" right out of reach again this week), and we are now only about three weeks out from The St. Jude Turkey Hunt, here in NC.
I was talking to Don Batten, the originator/donar of the hunt, last night. The extra winner's "swag", donated by enthused, supportive TG members, is piling up nicely in the "bat cave", for our young winner. I now have completed the personalized Wing Bone Turkey Call that I promised the winner, and the Molygabet (Sp.?) self bow I made, of course, has been ready and waiting to feel the grip of her new owner. I will hand deliver those items on that special weekend of 19,20, & 21 April
Speaking of the winner, and the bow's new owner - Don sent me a picture he got from her Dad, Michael Langehans, last night. I thought y'all might like to see one other thing our young hunt winner, "Miss Algebra", also excells at, when she isn't busy getting high grades in shool, and/or outdoors with her father and brother - slaying pigs, turkeys, & other critters foolish enough to challenge her hunting skill :) .
Mills (Langehans) (on right) and a fellow team-mate displaying awards, and huge smiles, that they won in a recent gymnastics competition meet:

You go, girl! Eagerly awaiting to shake your hand in April.
She's an awesome little critter!!!
You ought to see her try to catch a mouse!! ;)
LOL - hard to imagine she "tried" - without succeeding, Curt? - ;)
Darkness didn't slow her down, she simply ran out of time
Sounds like a problem that gets us all, Curt. Where does the time always go ... :dunno:
This week-end coming is the St. Jude Turkey Hunt, w/young Miss Mills (the Winner). I'll be there - taking pictures, enjoying the social gathering , meeting Miss Mills (and perhaps even sitting in a blind myself a time or two). So, I'm practicing shooting sitting down as often as I can. I, and others, will be reporting on the hunt, w/pictures, if all goes well, after the week end, in a new thread.
Here, I am sitting on my folding hunting chair, looking down range at home, thinking about the upcoming "Happening", and preparing to draw my 47 # Anneewakee Addiction recurve," Brownie".

Here, at full draw, ready to release an arrow (and more) at my 3D Turkey Target.

Ten shots on the target - I'll take this result, especially if he was turned tail-end to me, as we'd most like them to be.

Looking forward to shaking a paw with you, Miss Mills :campfire:

Aren't you the boss?? :campfire:
We gonna miss you too Marty. Have fun in Key West and behave yourself.
"Key West" ??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just what kind of reunion is that exactly :)
Prepping - packing - gonna be a great camp!
<><
<----------------------<<<<<<<
Don, Is Marty really noted for behaving himself? I'm just saying ... :D
(I was really looking forward to meeting him.)
All most Turkey time but let me tell one more story. Marty picked me up from stand on our last night. Half way to get Mills and Michael, he got a text asking if we had Peanut (Marty's beagle) with us. We just grinned and road on. Michael said he thought he heard the hog crash but just to be Marty hooked up Peanut and off they went. I think it was sweet of Mills to shoot one and let it run a ways so Peanut could get in the action. At the same time she took into consideration, Marty's age and physical ability. She only made him chase Peanut about 50 yards and we found this.

Early the next morning we all said our goodbyes at the gate and they took off for a gymnastics meet in Georgia. Very Busy family. I'm hoping that I can step up and put her on a turkey this weekend. stay tuned. DB
What's not to love about, a downed hog, a "Hunting" gal, and a loyal, hard working beagle???!!! :clapper: Great story and pic, Don.
I don't think i'll ever forget that hunt. Mill's successes- Wood's excuses- Don's miss , and Michael's appreciation.
If it was at all possible for me to be there this weekend- I would be there.
Key West is next weekend- Cory told me the best places to go and who to see. Thanks Cory, I didn't realize you had spent so much time there! I just can't find chaps in my size like you suggested.
1st time I met her about 3 years ago....I didn't know she was into gymnastics....but she was doing them anyway on the spiral staircase and in the rafters....
This don't in the least bit surprise me. :D

Now I'm kinda glad You sleep in a separate trailer when we come down there....
Michael- you too??? Man I thought we were friends.
Cory said what happens in the Keys.....
I hope Mills kills a bird!
I don't get it....there's other islands you can visit guys!!!
Terry- their just riding me ya know. One of my college friends owns a home there, he and his wife love it there. 12 of us are going flats fishing, golfing and I'll be the designated driver in case of too much consumption on their part. Only see these people once in a blue moon... Plans made before turkey hunt - cant afford to do both anymore.
Key West is a beautiful place with a great history. There- that's politically correct stuff.
I hear ya Marty....I stop at Key Largo that's as far as I'll go....ya know...
Bogie and Bacall.....still Holywood's greatest romance.
Yep - some more of the "Greats" - that's for sure, Terry. They entertained us so well, for so long.
Well I been piling stuff up . gonna get up and go feed my cows and stuff, a few chores to do and then I'm calling Bernie to meet me at my place and we will be on our way. Expect Cory late afternoon as well as the Beaufort Mafia. Gonna be fun. Looks like we might have some weather on Saturday but I expect a turkey in the cooler before then anyway. The pile of loot I have gotten in the mail is awesome. Makes me wish I won the hunt. This will be my last post here. More to come on a new thread soon. Took this pic while I was getting stuff together . the green cooler is mostly donated prizes to the winner.

There's gonna be some feathers flyin'- I just KNOW it!

I'm finishing packing/loading, and then waiting for Don's call to head to his place. With all that stuff he's got stacked up now - his gear and Mills "prizes" (plus I have a couple more for her), we may nhave to take both vehicles and I'll just "follow" him - LOL. Signing off this thread now also.
From the looks of the posts lately, most folks are bored. If you are and want a decent read, go to page one and make your way through this adventure. DB
