Title: It finally clicked today!!
Post by: JoeM on August 22, 2007, 02:36:00 PM
Hey guys this is my first post I've been sitting on the sidelines learning the last month or so.  Let me start by saying this sight is a great not a whole lot of bashin just a big family of friends trying to help out, the way a certain other sight used to be a couple of years ago. I'm new to the Trad thing but i'm lovin it!!  The way it started for me was books like, "Bows on the Little Delta" and "Hunt with Fred Bear".  I found my self loving the simplicity of the sport, not to sound cheesy but the,"mystical flight of the arrow".  With my compound you couldn't see the flight of the arrow.  Then that Predator add sealed it, the one that says does your shooting feel like a mechanized release or something like that.  I have followed peoples advice and started with a low # bow for the first month I bought it off a guy on this sight, Jeff Dorris, I have since uped it to a bear Super Kodiak that I'm pulling 54#.  I Started off just building up back and hand  muscles but since then have been experimenting with different styles of shooting gap, instinctive etc.  While reading Howard Hills book he explains split vision so since its been raining forever in the NE I started shooting my low # bow again in the basement tryin to train my eyes to do this. Its been frustrating to put it mildly but i keep watching Masters of the BB and Ron LaClair's words save me,"shooting a bow well takes time."  Well this morning it clicked I am able to focus through the tip of my arrow without going crosseyed and groups have improved drastically.  My wife thinks I'm obsessed I used to go out with the compound for 10-20 minutes(it got boring I new i was gonna hit it) now I'm out for hours.Sorry so long just thought I would share some of the adventures of a newbie. I'll keep you guys up to date. Thanks Joe

In my house it's my wife who's possessed..

She's tough to beat at 3D tourneys.  She reminds me all the time too.

You will like it here, Joe. Like you said, no bashing; just archery stuff. Dang, sure wish I had a basement!! Not too many basements in Suriname.

That is such an awsome feeling when it seems that every thing is coming together and the arrows are hitting that spot.
Not obssesed here, just takes longer for me to get my fix.

Welcome

It never gets boring. Ain`t it amazing how fast time can go by when your shooting?

Before, you went out and shot your compound because you were a bowhunter, and you had to practice. Now you shoot because you are a bowhunter,... and its FUN.

Wait till you experience how your heart is pounding when a deer gets in range. Its all together different than locking to full draw, and settling the sights.

Best of luck.

It's a beautiful thing isn't it? Next thing you know you'll be buying up bows like the rest of us.
