Title: best place to try bows?
Post by: solobowhunter on February 10, 2013, 06:54:00 PM
I'm in the market for a new bow but would really like to try out some different models.  There are some great bowyers out there.  Are there any trad gatherings in my area(GA/SC border) where a guy could possibly get to shoot several different models?

You'd still have to go across state but the pre spring fling,at Tannehill state park in Alabama.
The will be many vendors, with bows. Lots of used bows also towards the end of Feb.

Thanks for the responses.  I have checked out the classifieds and have seen a couple that looked very tempting. I'm just a little apprehensive about buying a bow I've never tried.

That was meant tongue in cheek really.  Ideally find other trad bow shooters in town or at a meet or shoot and if you're polite or meet some vendors you'll have a chance to try some bows.  Deals on the classifieds are great if you have some play money.  You can often get bows second hand that easily cost double or more new.  Just aim to get a bow as close to your desired specs as possible.

Come see us, Mike!  We generally have 18-20 (or more) vendors and we aren't that bad of a drive for you.

Thanks for the info everyone.  I have a Grizzly I got off that auction site.  I'm shooting it pretty well but I've really got a hankering to own a good quality custom bow.  I have had the opportunity to shoot a couple of custom bows and there is a definite difference from what I'm shooting now.  I think I need to just relax and take my time, the right bow will probably find me!

BEst place to try bows?

At a range!  :)    :jumper:

Seriously, I think you answered your own question.

Shoot a bow light enough to build good, good form, consistency is key...Study the forums here for that, and then, once you're doing the right things right--REGULARLY...worry about a better bow!

Otherwise, the cart precedes the horse

You are correct you will know the right bow when you touch and shoot it. As been said the best place to see bows is get to the largest event you can with a lot of vendors. Next week in Alabama, in Baltimore in May or denton hill in July all would be great trips for you to make
