I fell off the wagon again today! Called up Beth & Dave, ordered a 58" 54@28" FF take-down recurve. Beth quoted me 8-9 months wait time.
I've been eye-balling 3 particular recurves. The Stalkers, Wes Wallace recurves , as well as the Tips. I finally decided to go with the Tips & hope the extra cost is worth it!
I've always wanted to try one. For those of you that shoot these bows, what do you like best??
Are they pretty forgiving & accurate bows? Thanks! :notworthy:
UPDATE: thanks for all the feedback, I WENT AHEAD & ASKED BETH TO ADD CHECKERING!!! :clapper:
I ordered a 58", 49# @ 28" FF take-down recurve a month or so ago that they had already made. I absolutely fell in love with it right out of the box, and if the love affair continues on into the spring, I'll probably hunt with it this summer. It draws smoothly without stacking to my 28" draw length, and shoots GT 3555 bare shafts cut to 29" with a 125 grain tip perfectly tuned. I have been reluctant to try a 58" bow in the past, thinking that my accuracy would suffer compared with my usual 62" hunting bow or 64" target bow, but I've always wanted a Silvertip, and had some problems with clearance in a ground blind last year with my 62" bow, so when the opportunity arose to get one already made, I jumped on it.
I'm pleased with the accuracy so far, and really can't tell any difference between the 58" and my longer bows. I suspect that if I did some kind of scientific test, like firing 100 well aimed shots out of each bow, the longer bow would probably shoot a higher score, but that would be too much like work!
I bought a used one and then had Dave make me a set of limbs-47# @ 29"- Black glass. I'm very pleased with it. One of the best grips I have ever felt.
Congrat's, my favourite bows. I have a 60"- 1pc + a 62"- TD, recurves, both awesome bows, love the checkered grips, workmanship and they are as quick as anything else I've had apart from the Border HEX6's, with a 11grpp arrow. Great people to deal with, my 1pc LB is due in April
Been lucky enough to shoot them for dang near 30 years. They hit were you look.
Barry,
You know me, I have been through a bunch of bows, Silvertips are it for me, got three on the rack and one coming. You will absolutely love it.
Danny
Barry, you can't go wrong with a Tip,they feel familiar from the first shoot, another very important feature is that since the first shoot of the day you know that it is dependable and the arrow will go where intended. This is a must in a hunting bow. Remember to misure what kind of throat you want in your grip to have what you like in a bow.
Ah,checkered grip is mandatory.
BARRY!!!! Man, you are hard to keep up with.
I think you will love it. Do yourself a favor in advance and throw away the stock string. I know a guy who will build a nice string for you. :saywhat:
What's it going to look like??

Very ,very true!!!
I have a "Tip" with two sets of limbs and the checkered grip option riser. The checkered grip is the one option that doesn't suit my style of shooting and I won't buy another with it. I tuck three fingers and wrap one and this leaves two or sometimes three knuckles bleeding. I wish that I would have tried one out before I ordered. This is jmo.
Regards,
Grouse
They have been the best bows I've owned and the only ones I've kept long term.
Great bows and people. Dave and Beth's integrity and customer service are first rate. Dave is a world class bowyer
For me the best features are stability, forgiveness, and quality. The bow has a very shootable design that makes it a very very effective hunting tool
just my 2 cents
Money well spent. Very stable bows and great service.
Man, thanks for the feedback everyone!
Allen, I didn't go crazy on this one. Rosewood Diamondwood riser with a bucote stripe through. Clear glass over actionwood that will be stained to match the riser. I decided against checkering. YES you'll be making me a GIRLY MAN string for this one for sure!!
I have asked Dave to go one size smaller on the handle, and I hope it is around 4 3/4 around the throat.
Absolutely the Best hunting Bow made! IMHO.
Schafer Silvertip......hmmmm. Never heard of them... :dunno:
Barry, Great choice with the silvertip.
I think you will be very happy with it.
If you find anyone with a checkered grip anywhere near you......go try it.
It might save you sending it back to Dave later.
It is one option that should come as standard equipment........ITS THAT GOOD!
Enjoy and be sure to share pictures.

Barry.....please promise me that you won't disgrace a tip with one of those awful pink Virginia strings....
Yup, you will be very happy!! I'm getting on the list for another one piece...I'm thinking a 58"er this time might be in order!
Dave and Beth are superb
Congrats Barry!!

My 60# limbs love the Goldtip 5575s, my 52#s, not so much.
I'd say a 54# 58" tip, drawn to 28" would like 5575s at 29" with 100 grain brassies and 125 grain heads pretty well. You might also want some 50 grain brassies, just in case.
You're going to love that bow :)
you just ordered the best money can buy
an great people to boot.
Congrats Barry! That sounds like a terrific bow. The Rosewood Diamond with Macassar flare is what I bought. You'll like the look of that Rosewood. Nice draw weight too, it will feel a couple pounds lighter than some of your other fine bows.
I have to admit I had always been advised against checkered grips, friction wraps, or anything else that might cause torqueing. However, Dave's checkering feels soooooo good! To be honest I haven't shot mine enough lately to be able report one way or the other if I think the checkering matters or not to me other than a nice feel.
Thanks again for all the great feedback.
Tim, you got it wrong... It's a Guirly Man - Pink, or VA Sunrise - Orange. If it will help you sleep; I'll have Allen twist up a VA Sunrise. But u know if u go PINK... Ya never go back!!! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Don't worry Barry, Tim wouldn't approve unless it was black and tan!
You da man though Tim! See you soon at Baltimore. Hard to tell which bow I will be shootin' then though!
Best grip, easy shooting I have had( well) several tips, and would definitly think about the checkering a great option.
So many amazing bowyers and bows out there today and nearly impossible to shoot them all but the silvertip will not disappoint anyone.
Good luck and enjoy!
......Philip
Just shot mine today, with the checkered grip, and it was right on. Just a perfect sized handle for me.....and with a good ol' Bear Weatherrest it shoots like a champ.
John,I didn't know of this bow of yours!
