I'd like to see some pics with your kills with the stinger what your thoughts on them are. (Penetration, how quiet they are, bloodtrails, etc.) And I'd like to know what equipment you used. Or if you can't post pics just skip that part. Thanks!
The local archery shop here is run by a guy named Mike Ray. Him and a buddy of his have used the exact same Magnus Buzzcut broadhead to take about 15 animals. He now has the head retired to a display in his shop. If you go to the magnus website, look under the buzzcut line, it tells of it there... Not only do they penetrate well, but I think the main selling point is that they have an unconditional lifetime guarantee. That guy Mike does recommend the two blade for penetration.

I have never hunted with them, but I will this season. My practice sessions reveal their awesome flight characteristics, and they are easy to sharpen AND they stay sharp.
Zach, did you get that Bear Broadhead I sent ya?
yes I sure did, thanks
I tried shooting the stingers while tuning for my bear hunt. They fly awesome! I'm going with Snuffers for bear though might change to the 150 Stingers for deer.
150 stingers?? I thought didn't go any heavier than 125??
ah yes they make a 150 Stinger only place I have seen them is 3rivers or direct from Magnus.
I took both of these with a stinger 150 grain and my Adcock Longbow (50#'s at 29"). They fly great and sharpness is very good. Penetration was OK, but neither was a passthrough. Blood trails were very good:

I like my Stingers alot! Since I switched to Stingers 2 years ago I have killed 6 deer and 1 elk all with good results. I second the good flight and easy to sharpen comments. The picture is the bull I shot last year with a 4 blade 125 gr. Stinger. (http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e252/bohuntr/ResizeofResizeof2006ElkHunt024.jpg)
bowhuntr - What are you going to be shooting those Stingers out of this season?
I love Stingers. Have shot both the 2 and 4 blade 125gr with great results. The avatar picture was a 170 lb sow shot with a 4 blade out of a 59# Morrison Shawnee. Went through her so fast I thought I missed. Going after elk in 3 weeks and I'm taking my Stingers!
I'm shooting the 150gr 4 blade stingers. And they are going after elk next week. Braveheart archery (trad gang sponsor) carries these. And they have the best price and shipping.

My first experience with the 150 stinger was last year. They worked well, good blood trail & they are being used again next week to kill an elk. I touched them up & the look like new. I like `em.

Someone mentioned in a not so recent post that they(stingers) fell apart on them, and then others concurred, and it shyed me away, I wanted to get them But....went with the original 125 screw in instead....anyone else see this?
No, I've never even heard of a Stinger that "fell apart". The Stingers from about the first year of production had softer ferrules than the current ones and would sometimes bend. The current Stingers use T6 7075 and have for several years. Very strong stuff.
Just hold on a week or two, hopefully I'll have one by then. The season opens here on Saturday.
I just bought some 125gr 4 blades. They fly great but with the bleaders in they wistle like crazy like an old custodian or something just wistlin away. I had to take the bleaders out and they have stopped with all their ruckus. just my 2 cents.

My hunting partner Chris Hill took this doe a couple weeks ago using a 125gr. 2 blade Stinger. It was an 8 yard pass thru heart shot with the animal going 50 yards with good blood trail. Bow is a 57# DAS with total arrow weight about 450 gr.

Stinger 125 grain 2 blade. Broadside pass through.

Stinger 125 4 blade front-to-back pass through

Shot a second Javie, broadside pass through (no pic).
I've started using the 150s to increase my FOC a bit and that's what I had for my elk hunt. Very confident in their penetration cababilities.
My latest Stinger victim although I have to say the arrow only had 3 yds to travel. (http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e252/bohuntr/Resizeof2007AntelopeHunt004.jpg)
I just got some 125 grain Stinger Buzzcuts 2 blade heads and put them on some GT 3555 and they fly fantastic, these are my light arrows 557 grain arrow weight to shoot out my 63# lonbow to compare them to my 400 grain front loaded carbon with total arrow weight of exactly 12 grains per pound. I'll post pics as soon as something offers a shot and I make it.

I used Stingers last year on carbons and killed 2 hogs and 2 deer. One deer I spined from a tree stand dropping it on the spot. The blade was only bent a tiny bit.
i really like the stingers they are great in a lot of ways but this spring a shot a bear and the main blad bent very bad complete pass through, but the arrow was stuck in the groung and i think the bear bent the broad head when he ran. then this fall i shot a mature whitetail buck. broadside doublelung complete pass through broke a rib going in and out and the main blade was bent up pretty bad. my concern is what is going to happen when i hit a solid bone. the stingers fly great and are super sharp. hate to quit using them also i am using the 150 grain 4 blade stinger.

A picture, well you know
what's up how come i have had trouble with deer rib's and Tater shoot's his into steel with no problem's. when i switched to traditional about 2 years age i trind 6 or 7 different broadheads and the magnus stinger was the best broadhead for my set up.
doug77
Doug,
I don't know what your set up is but Deer ribs are not that tough, most quality cut on contact broadheads shot from a bow of reasonable poundage with properly tuned arrows should shoot through Deer ribs no problem.
A friend of mine actually shot this shovel and I retrieved this picture from an earlier thread. Set up if I remember correctly was 61# Widow Recurve with 600 gr arrow.
Tater
i am only shooting 49#. this sure does bother me.
doug77
49# is plenty for Whitetails. What is your arrow weight?
I've just started shooting some of these; I'll report back in a month or so when I've hunted WA's feral goats!
total 580 grain CX heratige 150
doug77
With that arrow weight and a properly tuned arrow/bow and keeping shots to a reasonable distance and angle you should't be having penetration problems. Each shot at an animal is different angle, distance, if the animal moves it's hard to diagnose unless you can see the shot. I think your set up is fine.
tater don't have peneration problems the main blades bent bad on a complete pass thru once on a bear and then this fall on a whitetail. doug77
Doug,
Maybe send them back to Magnus with a note as to the problem you have had, I know several guys who have killed Elk with those heads both Traditional and Compound with no problems.
magnus will replace them if damaged no problem,i have killed 33 deer with them only ever damaged one on a spine shot and they replaced it.great service at magnus.the way i look at it the head killed the deer anddid its job what more can you ask for.
2 dogs your right but my concern is what happens when i hit a shoulder blade am i going to get any peneration. i firmly beleive these are great broadheads, why am i having problems with bent main blads when no body else does.
douog77
i know 2 blades get better penetration but (they don't suffer from a snuffer)took a good 6by bull in new mex this year with a 48lb Zipper elkbow, head on shot and that snuffer took the shaft plum to the fletch, dead on impact, slid 20ft.
I killed these this year with 4-blade 125 stingers, 50# Martin Savannah. Broadside pass through on 7pt., arrow stuck in ground, quartering away passthrough on the doe.
7pt.

Doug77...I'll venture a guess here. How well is your bow and arrow combo tuned. An arrow which is unstable (even if it appears to be flying fine) can result in glancing blows which can result in bent broadheads.
Also, I wouldn't worry too much about what will happen if you hit "solid" bone.
I paper tuned it and got a perftic hole in the paper

:wavey:
you must of got a bad batch.i have shot thru both shoulders with a wheel bow and no bent blades, just using 2 blades.
