I went out into my shop just a dusk tonight to stick a feather on an arrow. I looked out the window above the bench and saw a nice sized 8 point standing there staring back about 20 yards away. It was just getting dark enough that I couldn't see his rack clearly so I picked up a small pair of binoculars to check him out.
As I moved he decided to head out, he took one jump and shook his head and as he did so both of his antlers flew off and into the snow. He ran off continuing to shake his head, probably wondering what had just happened. The first time I've ever seen something like that. What a slick way to hunt sheds.
Good deal! Can't beat that lol
Pics!
I saw a video of something similar recently. It looked like it startled the buck as one started falling off. He just about jumped out of his skin and they both went flying!
:clapper:
Cool deal! I've watched many large bucks that were carrying one side stand and kick at their attached side but have never seen one come off.
I've heard that it can be rather painful for them
That would be something to see.

Cool :clapper:
Pretty rare thing you just witnessed.
It was on my wife 70th birthday. She loves to hunt sheds. I told her the old boy just came in to give her a present.
How about a picture of the birthday lady holding her gifts?
Thanks in advance!
God bless,Mudd
That is too cool!
I once had a dream that went something like that!
My husband brought a nice 5pt shed to me that he found while harvesting soybeans. It had laid there all summer and had been chewed on some but still very cool. I have never found a shed myself.
I love finding sheds, it is way cool to see one drop like that. Awsome
I actually watched a buck shed an antler three years ago. I was in a tree when a buck with a single four point antler came up over a creek bank walking toward me. He stopped at about 25 yards, shook his head vigorously when the antler flew off. I couldn't believe how far he threw it! The antler made a high arch, landing almost 40 feet from where the buck was standing! He then walked right under my stand, one base scabbed over with the other blood red. He never even walked over to check it out. I know if I was a buck, I sure would have walked over to check out my own antler! Ha! The sad part was that I had my camcorder all set up but hadn't hit the record button. Yes, I did climb down later to pick up the shed. Another time, I was hunting out of state. When I got home, I discovered I got a trail camera photo of a buck in front of my camera. His head was all blurred and his remaining antler was in mid-air about a foot above his head! Both the antler and deer's head were blurry. Unfortunately, I didn't look at the photos on that camera until a couple days later after I went home. Then to make matters even worse, I accidentally deleted the photo! I was very upset with myself. Interestingly, when I pulled the trail camera, I noticed no shed antler there in front of it. I later realized he probably threw his antler off to the side in tall grass as well. It was probably laying close by in the weeds but definitely was not in front of the camera.
Cool stories!
Most-excellent stories!
Keep it comin'!
