Title: Broadhead recomendation?
Post by: Swiper on January 18, 2007, 06:03:00 PM
I a going to Texas to hunt Hogs & Rams. This will be my first traditional hunt. Should I use a 2-bladed traditional head, some bone crushing
Thunderhead 160gr or Muzzy 145gr I still have? Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

Don't see why you HAVE to shoot a two blade from that set up, but I'm sure not partial to the replaceable heads you mentioned out of trad bows for the game in question.

Just about any traditionally styled multi blade broadhead will do a good job for you.

Whichever cut on contact you shoot most accurately.

Magnus stingers fly good and would eat a hog up.

You have come to the right site for that question. Go back up to the main menu and find Dr. Ashby Reports. He has done extremely extensive and thorough studies of broadhead efficiency on actual big game animals.

I prefer heavy 2 blade cut on contact blades, but the ones you mentioned should work if you hit the hog right.  Check out the hog threads and there are a coupl in dangerous game as well.  Hogs ain't dangerous unless they come after you with an arrow in their butt.

Of the 2 you mentioned I would us the muzzy.  I prefer cut on contact 3 blade heads (Razorcaps or Woodsman) myself.  A hog unlike a whitetail will run with the pack until it dies on its feet.  This could be 20-50-100 or more yards away.  A 3 blade head for me provides a better blood trail for tracking and recovering the animal I've hit.

Good luck on your hunt
