I bought a pack of Muzzy Phantoms today. And I got to wondering how I was going to get the bleeders out when they need sharpened. I looked at the directions on the back, and tried to do it but it seemed realy hard and I felt like the broadhead was going to slip and cut me open. So I was wondering if there is any easier way of removing these things so I dont end up killing myself.Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks-Robert
A pair of heavy leather gloves are in order. I did it once, and I was scared! But pliers help also.
Yep, put them on an arrow so you can keep ahold of 'em, and use pliers to pull them out.
Go to the Muzzy website and check out the video. It is pretty easy to do after watching it. You can find the video under help/tech support.
You can sharpen them with a redi edge or small carbide sharpener without removing them at all.
I did the same thing and I got them out then I left them out. Two blade works great. I have never noticed the difference. Good shot placement equals dead deer with or without bleeders. Good Luck
The best (safest) way I have found to remove them is to stand the head up with the point down on a piece of hardwood and push the bleeder down with the cutting edge away from your fingers.
As soon as the bleeder moves enough to "unlock" from the ferrule, pull the forward end out of the slot and the rest of the blade will follow. Gloves are definately in order.
