Good afternoon (or morning depending on which side of the country you're on) all,
I was hoping to get some help picking some new arrows up. I'm specifically looking at the Goldtip Traditional carbons, and I'm not sure which spine to go with. I've looked at some charts but I still am not sure. They'll be for a 50# @28 inch Don Dow Stik, which is a hybrid longbow.
I prefer having 30" or 31" arrows. Should I go with the 3555 or 5575?
I've also already got some 31.25" 2117's with 175 grain field tips for my 45# Montana. Will those work in my 50# bow as well? Would I need to replace the tips with lighter tips to get the arrow to the correct spine?
Sorry for all the questions. I've been reading a lot here, and it seems that every time I find the answer to a question I had it only raises three more.
If any of you could point me towards a definitive type of guide to arrow spine I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Whats your actual draw length? Im going through the same thing, but with a 52 pound widow. I draw 28" and I like a 30" arrow. I have a shaft each of 3555 and 5575 on the way to try.
As far as the 2117, try shooting it. It may work, but Im guessing overspined. Every bow is different though.
Google the Stu Miller calculator program, its free on the web. 3Rivers also has it on their site under spine calculator. It's no foolproof but cuts out a little of the guess work. Depending on how centershot that bow is you will have luck with something around .500 spine I'd think
Thanks for the help guys. After figuring out how to use the calculator it seems that with my draw weight and draw length that 2217's are pretty darn close. The only thing I'm not sure about is the bow type. The bow I was doing this for wasn't on the list so I left it as is.
I'll do the paper tuning stuff this week sometime and see if I like what I see. If I do I might just go with more 2217's or with one of the other aluminum combos in the calculator that got even closer to each other than a 1.6 lb difference.
