what type off finish do you guys use on your recurve when they are redone? i have a few i mite try to redo. i read a copy of the refinishing threads and learn a lot..if this is not the right place delete it and tell me where to place this ..thanks, denny
I used Helmsman spar urethane on a longbow.
you spray it or brush it?
I sprayed it, read the application instructions on the can it helps.Very durable finish. I used wipe on poly on a bow once to it was an ok finish, not as durable as the HSU
I've use Helmsman spar urathane and Verithane, both in satin, and Birchwood Casey gun stock finish. The first two are available in spray cans, and in glossaswell. Birchwood is applied by hand and is a glossy finish, but it can be taken down by polishing with rottenstone.
ok, thanks.. if my bow only has a few dings and scratches on the riser. would you just redo the riser or the hole bow? i was thinking on just wet sanding it with some 400 or 600 and just re clearing it.
POR 15 glisten PC.
it's a two part clear. absolutely rock hard finish. it is super glossy though and needs to be rubbed back with 400grit then steel wool. then i rub in a 50/50 mix of bees wax and eucalyptus oil with a rag. comes out amazing.
ok, where can you get that at. hardware store or a paint store?
You need to use 320 g or more aggressive to give the finish some to adhere to.

Go big Jim Its not a finish its a NEW bow
Rich lopez (droptine59) uses Fullerplast. Not sure what some of the other guys use. Some people are fond of thunderbird.
