A local retired gentlemen likes to build a couple bows over the winter months. He uses materials that are from his land as well as bamboo. I was lucky enough to meet him a few months ago. I found out he made bows and asked if he would make me one. He said yes and this is the result:

The riser is made from osage that was buried in a creek bank for 30 years, hence the green color. The limb veneers are from a maple tree that was in his front yard. The limb cores are bamboo. It shoots fantastic. Fast enough, forgiving... A great bow!

Great looking bow that you should treasure!
It is 62" long and 50@28. He missed weight on the first one but he showed it to me. What a stunner! It had the even more green in the riser with a maple stripe. It was a looker for sure.
It is very special to me since it was made by a local gentlemen from materials that were harvested 15 minutes from my house.
real nice and nice shooting as well :clapper:
Great looking bow and very cool story behind it.
That is nice-Hap
Nice!
Nice looker!
I'm jealous. Seriously jealous. What a great looking bow. Be a proud carrier for sure.

That's a great looking bow.....and so cool that it's made from local materials. A keeper for sure.
Wow. Nice! A lefty even! Would love to own a bow made from Virginia wood.

I am interested in how that osage will age. Please keep us updated in a year or so and post another picture.
That's a very special bow, Id never let it go. Bows with a story of some sort are the best.
That osage deserves :clapper: . Looks fantastic IMO!
Nice looking bow. I also love building bows out of the local sawmill woods as well. I think sometime's people get to caught up in all the exotic stuff ,and forget about all the natural local hardwoods that are killer ,simple, and great bow woods.
Beautiful bow! Must be a very talented and creative guy. Never seen osage like that. I agree with nineworlds, bows with a story are the best!
Great looking bow
Wow, love the riser.
Thanks for all of the compliments on the bow. I really feel priviledged to own it.
There are not many bowyers in the state of Va for some reason. I looked all over for years and then met this gentleman 15 minutes from home.
Congrats on a very special bow, enjoy.
Very nice!
Nice bow..!... That's some unique Osage, curious to see how it will age..
Great looking bow...
Very nice.
Tater- Since the osage was cut over 30 years ago, I would suspect that it will keep this green color. It really is quite different from fresh osage. The line in the riser is newly cut osage. I wish that it would stay yellow to show the contrast.
What a great story! That's a beautiful bow that will mean a lot to you every time you pick it up! Thanks for sharing your story and pictures!

Now you have to get a deer and give him a few steaks! Very nice job. I like when the woods come from the region you hunt...Congradulations!
