Title: Broadhead vs Field Point Weight
Post by: Cryogenic on January 21, 2013, 07:51:00 PM
I have GT 5575 arrows shooting a 145 grain field point with a 20 grain weight on the insert for 165 grains total.  For hunting, should I just replace the 145gr firld point with a 145gr broadhead?  I realize that I may have to do a little fine tuning with the broadhead, but I am unsure of the best starting place.

Thanks all!

Matt

If you tune your set up with that weight head, then yes use the same weight broadhead.

With a well tuned bow I have shot broadheads 20+ grains on either side of my field tips with no significant change in point of impact or arrow flight.

I agree most folks could not tell the difference in a 50 grain deviation.

Remember too that every time you sharpen a head you loose grain weight. More the first time as you set the bevel. So being identical in weight changes over time. Like Rob said you can get away with some variance.
