Found these today kinda by accident. Was goin by the lease and wondered at all the deer tracks crossing the road,so stopped and walked in about 100 yds to see what was happening. :saywhat:
50 yds in, I see the 4 point side hooked on a tree, so I made a little circle and 15 feet away was the other one. COOL!!
Please add your shed pics if you like, gotta have somethin to look at since huntin is over...

great find Kenny
i havnt found any sheds yet, but i havnt really had time to look either. i did see a group of small bucks cross the road a few days ago. some had shed already some had one side still. so they are out there to find for sure

Went out with a couple friends Thursday and managed to find a nice set of fresh Blacktail sheds. A big 3pt with eyeguards and sticker points. Might be an old buck from the size of the bases.

All nice finds. That Blacktail rack is really cool.

Nice! Will be keeping an eye on this one also...KYArcher

Mine weren't fresh, but not from last year either, I've been in there a couple times last fall and they weren't there.
Findin a shed is about the next best thing to grabbin an antler on a bowkilled buck!!

My problem is I find one set and then quit going. I really need to keep looking even if I find some.......
-
WOW ,nice finds, really neat when they are fresh drops. Makes you wonder how far ahead of you he is.....lol!
-
I tend to find one shed every couple of years. None yet this year although I found one in November so I have some time yet lol
-
Those are some big ones Jim and Travis!
-
Those bases are huge!
-
Ron W, the one shed was only on the ground for a couple of hours. I have trail cam pic's of him at 6am with it on his head and I found it at around 8am.
-
I was out on a hunt this weekend and didn't see any sheds. At least in SW IA a lot of bucks still had their antlers yet. Hopefully the cold snap coming will have them drop and I can find a few.
-
Now this is a great thread...you need to start this one every hear Kenny. :campfire:
-
X2 Terry,
This is good stuff!
-
4 point....that's really neat to have him on a trail cam with, and then find the horn in a time frame.....
-
Wow!!! Great photos, thanks guys!
-
Soon as it gets above 0 degrees I'll have to get out!
-

(http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s296/GregD_photos/001-8_zpse6886a95.jpg) I found these two on consecutive trips about 100 yards apart. I usually only find a couple a year.

Pictures and the i-net give me fits.

-
Great thread!
I've been looking a bit but haven't found any. I've seen a lot of the bucks antler-less though. The rodents are probably tearing em up as we speak!
I would also love to see the blacktail wearing those!

Very nice Travis! Beautiful dog as well!!

Great set there Jim but I think your wife is exaggerating the spread lol.
My little brother is trying to train his dog to find sheds. My dogs on the other hand will not go out in the cold. Cant say I blame them.

Keep the photos coming guys ! I am enjoying this ,as I can't get out too far from the house the snow is just to deep. And not sure if they are dropping the antlers yet . Maxx
-
Thats a big rub Kenny. I have a large Ceder tree they hit every year. It's amazing that some of the bucks I get pic's of rubbing it can get there horns around it.
Wetfeathers, thats a nice set.
-
Found some more fresh blacktail sheds yesterday.
Almost missed this shed, had some ferns wrapped around it for camouflage ...

Nice finds Ron, I'm jealous. We got another foot of snow this week and wind chills of -40 today. Hope it doesn't last long so I can get back out.
-
Only if I could see these on the deer while I'm on stand lol.

Sweet finds Jim! Missed ya at league on Monday! I figured the way the weather was it would have been wise to stay home!
-
NICE Jim.......what a beauty!!
-
Wow Jim! How old you reckon he is?
-
All the bucks in my area still wearing there head gear.
-
Awesome thread! I'll be out Sunday to take a look.
-
Saw 4bucks last weekend all had their antlers still. What triggers them dropping? Is it weather or just time?
-
Kenny
I am thinking 5 or 6. My neighbor thinks older but he doesn't have a sagging belly like the really old bucks do, here is a picture of him in Oct
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8052/8119325634_f62229857d.jpg)
I am hoping for a crack at him next season
-
Nice Finds Jim!
-
I'd agree, but he is kinda humped up in the pic, so hard to tell...
-
I found this sika shed from last year while hunting Thursday evening. It was laying next to a flooded ditch. I will wait about a month to start looking.
-
I''l post this one here as I'm sure it will be all over the place soon. Guy at work showed it to me. It's from his Aunts farm. They don't let any one hunt. A guide was supposedly hunting him all around their place. The other side is just as messed up. Alberta deer.
Ken, most are shed around here. The dog and I found 3 right after Xmas but snow is too deep now to make worth while.

Do you have sika deer in Pennsylvania?? I would love to hunt them critters one day.
-
I am taking my bow for a walk today. Trying for a rabbit and scouting mission. I will be looking at my feet quite a bit for sheds.
-
"Do you have sika deer in Pennsylvania?? I would love to hunt them critters one day."
No, that came from Dorchester county, MD. I live near the border of MD and PA and travel a little over 2 hours to be there. Sometimes just for an evening hunt.
:knothead:
-
Thought that was a Sika shed from Dorchester Co.)shame I live in Dorchester Co. " Sika land" but hardly ever hunt the little critters much anymore...We used to hunt Assateague Island every weekend in the early 80's and 90's ...If you want to hunt the public land at Blackwater our fellow tradgang brother's Steve Kendrot and another "Yohan" here hunt both public and private...It's hard finding a place that hasn't many hunters at Blackwater but if you do your homework you just may see a few Sika's on stand and hear the buggleing...Very fun deer to hunt ...That's a nice stag shed you found there Mike  more then likely the other side was exact as that side...
-
I found a nice matched set on Saturday and 2 more today. I will have the pictures posted later.

Here in SE Texas, I've been look'in the past few afternoons but have found numerous fresh scrapes and rubs. I'm not sure if the bucks have shed their head gear yet or not. They normally shed in late Jan/early Feb but I haven't found any as yet.
-
While not technically a shed, I found this skull at Ray Hammond's this weekend and thought I'd share.

There still rubbing around here. Found this one and another one just as fresh this morning.

I noticed bucks on my trail camera started shedding around Christmas. I found a year old one three weeks ago and a fresh one two weeks ago. The snow is melting, so when I'm back home from college this weekend I'll be back out looking for some more.

Gun! That shed is awesome . Would be great if your friend could get permission for you to look for the other one in the spring. Wow

I like the picture of the lab!! My daughter goes to University of Iowa. I would love a son in law who shoots a longbow.

Silvertip, I'm at ISU and I'm already taken. :)

Found this one Sunday afternoon before I headed back up to college. On one piece of property my uncle has found 2 left sides, I found one left side, and a buck on my trail cam has his left side only. So there should be 4 decent sized right sides out there somewhere that I just can't seem to find. I've walked that place 3 times... Thinking about checking out two more spots this weekend, but we'll have to see since they're calling for 8 inches of snow thursday into friday.

Can't wait for the snow to melt so I can go find some.
-
We are sposed to get a foot and 30 mph wind startin at daybreak tomorrow. Fortunately , the bucks seem to still be packin a lot of headgear....
-
Kenny,
On Feb. 4th I was heading to work early that morning and saw a buck near a back road I was on and my lights were on him cause he was right next to the road and he had both antlers still on him here in Maryland...
I've seen the full head gear on them several years ago on Feb. 28th...
Just seems to me the further North, or North west you go it seems the bucks shed much earlier to me but that's just from what I see and hear....
-
I found this pair Feb. 10th when out doing some bunny hunting just a 100 yds from my house. This is the first time I have found a set dropped side by side. I saw this buck several times during the season, but never had any shot opportunities. Maybe I'll get a crack at him this next season.

New to tradgang, here are a few from last year.
-
I can't wait to get out, love this thread. when the snow is gone or at least subsided from the present 2 1/2 feet I'll hopefully contribute. Say some good bucks tonight, some had horns still and some looked like they had just lost.
-
(http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n486/Shedrock1/P1030282.jpg)
Found this one on 2-11. It is a bit early yet for our mulies. I have been seeing several nice bucks still with both sides. Get's good here about mid March, then the elk are dropping also :bigsmyl:
-
Ha I love this thread. I especially like to see pictures of the antlers before they get pulled out of the grass or snow, thats neat. I seem to have poor luck finding them. As is the case with most things traditional the glory is in the struggle I suppose :)
-
Here's a shed I found 2 weeks ago. I found it near a ditch like so many others. It dropped when the buck landed from jumping. It was buried in pine needles since last year. That woods was under a foot of water from hurricane Sandy.

We got a pile of snow last week and 6-10" more coming monday! After no winter all winter, this is stinkin!
At least the sqerls won't be able to eat the sheds!

Great pics everyong!
Shed - I really like those mulie antlers! I am lookin' forward to what the elk are droppin' as well.
Have a great 2013!

well this thread has me over eager to shed hunt this year. Been out a few times and nothing on the ground yet. I did bump into 5 different bucks with both sides still so maybe its a little early. This shed is a year old and had some chews, but it's an absolute HAWG of an antler!

thanks for clarification, I was a bit suspicious, but like you I have found them in tree branches. and thought it would be a heck of a deal to have one come off and stick like that!!
-
Ron that year old shed really held its color. Must of had some good shade.

Found 17 last weekend loading bales. Didn't get any pic's thou. Waiting on the snow to melt to really look hard for some.
-
Went shed hunting Monday and hiked my butt off! But I found a decent brown 4pt....and I also found an old 4pt that I would normally leave in the woods, but something about it just clicked, so I kept it.

So I get home and look through some photos and find the buck that previously owned that old antler back in 2006 or 2007?
Here's the same buck the year before when I rattled him in...

These pics were off slides, so if they don't look real crisp it's because of my conversion.

Dang Travis!! You got the sheds!!
-
Kenny, I hope to find more of the big guys. We still have a lot of snow. Seems like spring is never going to get here.
-
HOLY MOLY!!  You must live in hunt'n and shed hunt'n paradise!
-
Yeah, ours just melted off last weekend, now 6-10" forecast for tonite.
May never get out to look!!
-
B.glass the only reason I do is cause I put a lot of time, money and work into keeping deer alive and on our ground. Around us the hunting isn't great. We don't shoot a buck unless it's over 5 years old. I didn't kill a buck with my bow last year but I passed a lot of great bucks and I enjoyed that more than killing one. You see a lot more of nature when you don't shoot the first deer that walks by. I know some people don't agree with hunting that way and I understand that. Me, I'd rather be hunting then setting around watch football.
-
Heading out with the kids today....see if we get lucky again
-
Travis,
I wish I had enough land to keep the deer on, but every one I pass up ends up dead on next farm some direction. One about 20 minutes later after I refused to shoot no matter what he offered for 5 minutes!!
I still like to hunt for older bucks, but they don't have to be 5 to suit me anymore. Seems about 3 - 4 is bout as long as they make it with the pressure we have here. The rut during gun don't help a dang bit either....
-
Kenny, I have the same problem. It's just one of those things that happens. What really gets me is when our neighbor complains cause they don't have any big bucks. They kill 8 bucks off there ground every year, everyone of them have been young except for the one they poached off ours.
If you can get a deer to 3 years old most places your doing good. I'm sure there are places that people just happy to see a buck. Our rifle season is during the rut as well.
-
I got out yesterday and all I got for my effort was poked in the eye with a twig and poked in the thumb with a thorn! I did see some cool rubs, scrapes and trails. Gave me some ideas for next year!

Nice little pile of brown and white, elk and mulie sheds. Just getting started here, the snow is mostly gone. The elk are not quite done shedding yet though. Seeing quite a few bulls with both yet.
-
Nice!
-
I wish they would shed already. Saw 5 bulls this morning, all 5 had both antlers yet.
-
Tracy,
What a haul. That Elk set must have been a rush to see laying there.
I didn't realize Elk could hold their antlers this late.

April 6th and this morning 2 bucks still sporting both sides walked through the back yard.
No wonder I haven't found a shed yet.
Crazy.
-
Found my first one this morning while listening for gobblers.
Also saw a deer this wk that looked like it must have just lost it spots..very small.
To make me wonder what's going on even more, I saw a post on a turkey hunting forum where a guy had a trail cam picture taken this wk with a doe and big fawn that still had spots.
-
About ready to give up for the year. Have 100 singles I can't find the matches to.

Never found a single shed before .... Maybe this year is my year

Haven't been out looking for sheds much since the salmon started coming in the river...but the last few times I went out I found a couple of deadheads.
One day I was crawling around in some thick stuff and stumbled upon a lion killed buck from this winter...

Not allowed to keep skulls with antlers attached here in Oregon...so just took a few photos and left them for the treerats to finish off.

Ron, our week of nice weather is over. We just got a foot of snow and more to come the way it sounds.

Travis, we got all rain this time, but I haven't had much time to be lookin for sheds. Maybe I can combine it with turkey season here in a couple weeks.....
sure glad you guys are findin em tho!! Love to look at em!
-
Kenny, we will take snow any day over the 1/2 inch of ice they had south of us. Good luck getting a bird.
-
Heard that too, happy we didn't get that either!
Thx on the bird luck, I need all I can get!
-
We just have not had any nice weather in my neck of the woods....lol!
-
Notice the flat tire, two holes in it thanks to this joker!
I had just got started bush hogging too, I think I saw this deer one time last season. I hope to see him again soon.

Expensive but nice find. Have yet to get one thru a tire. Had one stuck in the lug once, luckily it didn't go in. Found a broadhead from I think back in 04 stuck in a lug while planting this spring.
-
Bummer about the tire. Nice find though. I guess you can say its a love hate relationship.
