Title: Nick’s new TGMM Mad Dog longbow

Thanks the TGMM kids bow giveaway program, my son Nick was able to win one of the Christmas bows.  We would like to thank everyone responsible for such a great program!  Just one of the many things that makes this site so great.

I got the call just before the holidays kicked off, but because the bow was not going to arrive until after the first of the year, I decided to set on the news until it showed up.

A week ago we got the box while I was home on a Friday off and the kids were just in from school.  I explained what was in the box (not that the family is not familiar with long boxes arriving at the house)  ;)  , how it came to our house, and how we would not only be able to enjoy it but also enjoy giving it away someday to another kid to enjoy. Lots of excitement followed, and Nick soon had his new bow in hand and a big smile on his face.  :goldtooth:

He looked it over admiring the wood, brown glass and gold medallion.  He was very impressed with the bow as was I.  Then he gave it a pull and didn't get it all the way back.  With a bit of disappointment he said it was too heavy for him.

Nick had moved up from a plastic bow to a wood longbow that was okay for him to pull, but real long for him.  He shot that some this summer, but more recently started shooting the heavier 20@24 Bear Kodiak cub his sister has been shooting this year.  We were shooting for that weight with the Mad Dog so it would be just right for him come summer.  The Mad Dog came in at 25@25 so heavier than anything he had shot before.  I assured him that if he shot the Bear this winter, ate a huge amount of fruits and vegetables,  :D   and grew just a little, he would be shooting the bow fine come summer.

On Saturday we went out to shoot some.  His older sister drew the new bow a few times and managed the weight okay.  She liked it a lot.  Nick shot the Bear a little while I got a nock on the new bow.   Up to this point we have been taping strings for more contact area and now going to the no glove finger savers.  We don't have another set of those, and I have been thinking it was time to try a glove or tab for this summer.  We have one kid's glove my daughter won at the Compton kids shoot so we gave that a try.  It was a little big still, but something to try.  Caitlyn took a few shots with the new bow.  Nick decided he could give it a go.  Full draw, anchor, settle release then a dozen more. Big smile was back! Noting like having to outdo your sister to find some extra muscles.

Both kids ended up sick for most of the week so today now that Nick was feeling better and back to school, I decided it was a good idea to take him out in the cold and wind to do some pic's and some shooting.  All our targets are stored in the barn this time of year and we are just getting a new backstop to set up better for indoor shooting, but we got in a few photo shots to post.  We will get our new backstop up this weekend with higher targets and get him leveled out to start working with the new bow.

Nick can't manage the glove being too big so he shot bare fingers.  About a dozen shots is all he can manage with bare fingers and the bow weight.  We will be looking for some new  equipment at the Expo next week.

Should be a fun summer shooting the new bow and I don't think he will have any problems shooting it.  He likes to shoot from the stakes so the new bow should really flatten out his trajectory. It is no slouch in performance from what I can see so far.

I have never seen any detailed photos of these before so I figured a few shots of the bow were in order to show how nice they are.

Awesome stuff right there (the smile tells it all).  The 2 Nick's from Michigan did pretty darn good so far this year.  See you in Kzoo Todd.

I think it has something to do with being named Nicholas around Christmas time. You get an extra dose of Christmas magic.   :D
