After reading this thread, http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=124863 I am curious how old the gang members really are? :dunno:
I hope to be shooting way on up in my 90's. :bigsmyl:
Benjy
I'm an old rode hard and put away wet 42. I'll shoot till I can't shoot no more.

wait that describes me to a tee
Boy, When I write 62 I can't beleive it!
Benjy,
Falling in the 51-60 group makes me look a lot older than I feel.
Can still shoot bows up to 102# with enough confidence to hunt with them. But my "preferred" hunting weight is 75-80#. Just what I feel most comfortable with in this country.
Have no problem going up in weight if planning a foreign hunt and higher poundage is "required by law".
I'm far from being a "Mr. America" type, just have always shot heavy since the start, and it's what I feel most comfortable with.
To each their own.
I saw that thread and tippytoed away from it.
I figured that with my knees sounding like sacks of gravel, and shoulders with spurs in the AC joint, and my issues with tendonitis, and weighing forty pounds more than his wife, I might come off as being a little cranky.
And yes, I am in the most popular age bracket in your poll. And glad of it! It has always been just plain and simple archery for me, no dark side forays, just shoot what I can handle and strive for more, trying not to wake up Arthur along the way. I like where I came from, and value the lessons learned on the path. I have learned a bunch more with this internet stuff, and am watching the changing trends.
Everybody to their own kick, I am trying to maintain personal standards without slamming others. In the shooting sports, your real opponent is yourself.
Killdeer :campfire:
magnus 42? You are still just a pup
Wow, I am kind of suprised so far! Killie that means that we are not the "old guys"!
I knew that I was on the other side, but not by that much.
Grouse
I will be 71 years young in March 2013.I do not feel that old mentally.
65 in May
Your welcome guys. I just lowered the curve. 40 till May
Hey, I made it into the three %.
A fellow shotgunner (yeah, I know that's a bad word) in his mid-80's says "Let's just say I'm closer to 50 than I am to 40".
50 in May.
Looks like I'm a 30 percenter...til May anyway.
I'll turn 19 come April
44 last month
I'm 41 till the end of august.... I'm so young still!!
I'm 41 till the end of august.... I'm so young still!!
60 in May,sounds like May was a good month.
When I graduated from high school I was 18 yrs old, slim and trim, mean and lean! I'm now a portly 32 yrs old
I'm in a good group, 53 till May, and still have plenty of spunk and some good hunting ahead. I thank our father for my health and this forum. ( along with many other things)
Cool, I'm in the majority age range. 48 years old 'til October. I feel like 35 and act like I'm 25!
I have been shooting trad for over 50 years and I'm only 57. The frogs used to shake when they knew I was around.

I'm turning 60 this year.It is hard to believe. How time is flying by. I'' shoot till I'm gone. I just love it.
Tundra
50 and active, enjoying things like archery, canoeing and doing whatever else my wife tells me to. ;)
49 on Feb 7th. Was born the day the Beatles came to America.
32 till May
41 till April!!!!
It only seems like yesterday that I used to "wish" for the weekend to hurry up and get here. I reckon all that wish'n caused the decades to whiz right on by? I heard on the news the other day that "old" age begins at 59 -- uh, oh I have less than 35 days of "youth" remaining!
One of the most comforting things I get from Trad Gang is to learn that among recurve shooters (ok, longbow folks too) I'm not so old. I can't imagine a life without archery and from the looks of things on this site, I don't have too!
By the way, are there any "Roy's" in the world less than 55 years old?
Looks like I am with the majority!
Keep the wind in your face!
Shoot straight, Shinken

Yep, me too. Fifty-six until next month.
One thing I see is we need to find a way to bring in some younger blood to Traditional archery. I will be 50 next month
The younger blood recruitment is well under-way.
57 til October. Still on the right side of the dirt and breathin' air, so no complaints!
55 and still rolling along.
40
Im 43 going on 10 and loving it.

I had no idea when I started this that the avarage age of us Trad guys would be 50! We definately need to get the younger generation into our sport!
37 ! here
34 until August. I'm trying to get my kids into trad to keep the fire stoked. If they just made a traditional bowhunting video game it would be easy! Lol!
30
50 in less than a month. Great to see all the guys in the age bracket above still shooting strong! Puts a smile on my face just when I needed it (staring 5-0 in the eyes) LOL
JW
65 in April. Longbows, recurves and occasional wheel bows have been in my hands for 57 years. Nothing is more rewarding or relaxing than the flight of an arrow, even for aging eyes
18 currently, joined tradgang when I was 13 in 2008.
Schafer
WOW! Iam going to be 74 in april. always wanted to see whats just on the other side of the MT. now I know.
Looks like the majority of us are the Over the Hill Gang in Trad Gang
I am in the 4% at 27! Cant wait to see where traditional archery takes me.
Turned 56 today!!!
Rolled 56 last month.Started with a recurve and will finish with one. still getting upright everyday!!!

Just turned 38!! Getting old lol.

Benjy, thanks for this poll. I now feel young!
I am dreading May, as I'll be turning 40.

From the looks of this poll, I believe alot of us are wishing we would be turning 40!
I am still surprised about the results!
Started trad shooting when I was 57, now I'm 59. Dang those years go by fast.
I rolled 64 last week but am having more fun shooting, learning and building arrows than ever. Hope I can still draw a bow in twenty more years :-)
I figure all the younger members are too busy doing all the stuff we were in years past to be on here posting. Maybe the numbers will change some over the weekends.
45-1/4 but act 20. My body reminds me everyday!
58 chronological years, about 75 when arthur has a grip on my joints.
I turned 55 Jan. 13th.
I'm 41 next month !
42 but in my head 24 :p
Shooting for the last 2 years and loving every minute of it :bigsmyl:
:archer2:
57 and still get pumped up for hunting! ;)
63 here, but slowing down real fast :help:
48 wow thought I would never make it this far :notworthy: Have had good times and bad ones I just take what lemons life throws my way and make lemonade.
Hmmp, now I'm thirsty.
I will be 54 in a few days.
I'll be 71 in Feb. I feel young mentally and pretty good physically. I'm not as strong as I used to be but I still shoot my bows nearly every day from spring till fall. Winter is hunting and leagues...Dave
I'll be 50 in October. My Grandpa, (Dad's Dad), died last week at 102!!!! His mind was sharp until the end. If I'm lucky................
Hey- I know there should be at least 1 in the under 15 class...Where is Guru II in this pole? Must be doing his homework.
Looking at the age of my local club, it seems to fall in line with the results so far. Mostly us gray haired guys with some young blood too.
Just turned 49 this week.
44
53 in afew more weeks.
64 IN APRIL, DROPPED A BIT IN BOW WEIGHT OVER THE YEARS BUT STILL GOING STRONG.
45 at the present...
I'm a even 50.
Happy late Birthday Glenn!!
If I would have known I would have baked You a cake.
bretto
I'm still wet behind the ears.Started shooting bows around 13 I think. Turn 25 in December. I will say though all my close friends are in the popular "seasoned" age bracket.
Mid 60s here. A mere beginner and building my draw strength almost weekly. Sure wish I'd discovered bows about 40 years ago! (But it's never too late.)
75 and still going strong. Shoot almost every day. Still climbing trees, shoot in field tournments, and 3d's.
Hangin on to 52 one more day..
I'm 63, but still shoot like I'm in my 20's.
Happy birthday JB!
50
48 for me
Same age as Chuck Norris 72!
I'll hit the big 40 in July, but I feel 25 !
I'm a very young 58,The older I get the younger I feel, now if I could just reverse the aging of the way I look. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Looks like there is only 20 of us in my age bracket. I turn 27 on Monday
i think we need a poll on weight of our bows that we hunt with to go with this age poll.
il be 52 in a couple months. and i feel it every mornning.
52 next month!
Bisch
This past Tuesday I made 84. hope to shoot a few more year. Sure hope I don't have a double post.
I'm a young'un: 30, but I'm an old soul. I wake up some mornings and feel 50. Done and seen a lot already at 30.
I'm 65 now and I haven't shot since I was 44. I hope to get started shooting again. I'm unable to walk in the woods so hunting is out of the question. But I think if I sit down, I will be able to shoot from the shooting line at the range.
Cool go for it Lotech
Turned 43 last May...
I'm 44
44 also
Just turned 48 but at times feel much older ,but in a good place in my life .
55 next month.
41
62 and still vertical.
I'm the luckiest guy I know. 2 great kids(not so kids anymore!), beautiful wife, brand new granddaughter and a new Zipper in the house.
Hope this isn't against forum rules...but all this talk about age makes me think about something...bible says each man is appointed to die....some sooner than others....so where will you spend eternity ? Something to seriously consider....hope to see you in Heaven !
I couldn't enjoy living so much -- including my bowhunting -- if I didn't know what would happen to me when I die. I'll see you there, Nathan!
A little more than "curious" Benjamin, at the end of the poll you created you will have the answer. Wish more young folks preferred Trad. We do keep trying by example!
Just turned 50 in September
i'm young and i preach the merits of trad to anyone who'll listen, just call me reverend trad!
Turned 53 in Sept.
63
60 in August
58
25 NEVER USED TRAINING WHEELS
I'll be 47 next month but feel 77 some mornings when the 430 alarm goes off !! Its not the years but the mileage
59 years young and no, I don't shoot any heavier than I did when I was 14. 45# worked fine then and still works great now for the whitetails I hunt.
60 till April 5.
30 years ago my hunting weight was 90#, now it's half that. I'll be 77 in March.
I started shooting a bow over 70 years ago...when I quit pulling bowstrings it'll be because there's not enough room in them padded box's... :bigsmyl:
35 I shoot around 60lbs at 31.5"
48 til April, been bow hunting deer for 36 yrs. I remember shooting a bear recurve when I was 12. Someone ask my mom when I started shooting, she couldn't remember either. I did string my brothers recurve backwards when I was 5 or 6. You know, it looked like it went that way. It broke and I threw it in the river. LOL I was trying to shoot fish. He never found out. Tim in NC
39 till December
will be 35 this year.
71 last November. 1954 1st year chasing deer with stick and string. Currently drawing 27" - bow 54@28.
Still having fun - shot a wt in December.
ill be 45 in may
I am 32, hunt like I'm 18, and feel like I'm 22 (sometimes). I plan to stay this way til I can't go anymore.
61 and shooting 60-65 lb. bows
It is really cool to see all the guys in there 70 and still going stung, shooting and hunting. I have a friend of mine, up here, not a bow hunter, but he got a big Yukon moose this year(like most years) but he was all by him self and his canoe!! He his 71!!
You are all great inspiration!!
56 or 57 something like that. 57 in feb.
58 and I feel great...
52 just beginning this wonderful journey.
I have been absorbing as much knowledge from this site as possible.
A BIG thanks to all that share their wisdom!
I wonder how closely the chart mirrors other hunting demographics? I bet its pretty close but I would also bet Trad slants towards older people. Just a hunch.
BTW I'm 25, been at it for about 4 years. Looks like I'm one of the whippersnappers.
54,with a whole lot more!shooting 75#,plan on hunting till i'm 100.i think i'll take up some more extreme sports then.
Hey, I'm in the majority for a change at 54...
60 here
43 today to be exact! Been deer hunting since I was 10. I been bowhunting when I was 12 and went total trad archery 94. Im getting a knee replacement in march. Jumping out of planes in the army has taken its toll. I dont feel 43 though.
From the results of the polls as is the case for so many things, it seems to take a little while to figure things out.
Just turned 24. Been trad for 9 years now.
Ron,you are the man!Other 100 years of hunting.
Just over 73.
Iron Mike, any sports will be extreme then.
32 here
FOr you SNL fanss . . .In the words of Sally O'Malley . . ."I'm FIFTY! I Like to kick, and streeeettch . .. and KICK! I'm FIFTY YEARS OLD!!!"
Kingsnake
I will be 51 in April, but I don't look a day over 65!
The ages in this thread explains a lot about why everyone is so well mannered and welcoming here.
I'm 55. My best friend is a year or so younger but will tell you he's 29. If you give him the "funny look" he'll tell you how many anniversaries of his 29th b-day he has celebrated. :)
Be 52 in Feb.
48
That's an eye opener. Looking at the poll, I didnt think we were that old. LOL. God bless.
57 here.
73 and never more enthusiatic about shooting traditional bow and deer hunting. I am really shocked at the age structure of archers responding here and hope it does not reflect the interest in traditional archery amoung younger bow hunters. Thanks for you younger folk. Lou
I'm old enough to not remember if I posted before lol.
I'm 63.
37.....but still playing like a kid!
Teaching 9th graders will do that to you!
Seems like I posted to this thread a few years ago! Anyway, I'll be 60 in April.
just turned 40 dec 31
I've lived in 6 decades, 2 centuries, 2 millennia, and, as of today, 15,732 days. (I'm 43.)
Will be 57 at the end of Febuary..
45

BTW, went to a 3-D shoot today with some friends and was pleasantly surprised to see several teenagers slinging shafts. :)
45 on the way to 30!!!
Just turned 42 and loving it.
This is my year of turning 60. After looking at the vote results the fallloff in the over 60 age group makes me determined to keep going strong. Has long as the god Lord blesses me with good health I'll keep shooting!
I am surprised I am in the majority. Soon I will turn 58.
All in all the years have been pretty good to me, yes, my body aches a little more than it did years before and my step a little slower. It's probably for the better though. I enjoy the small things in life more.
fifty and one
55 This year. Lord willing I have several more to go.
42 years old. I turn 43 on March 6.
I will be 78 in May. Still climbing trees and all the rest, but I think I'll retire the hang on tree stands and stick with the climbers (preferibly sit and climb). As long as I can keep shooting the bow and do some hunting, I'm happy.
35

44 on Feb 8th.
Benjy I am old enough to remember you before you had any gray in you hair. Young enough to remeber that you were the first person to let me shoot their recurve ( i think it was a 62lb jeffrey)
Eric
Had to vote in the 41-50 range. I'll be 41 in May! Hope I have another 40 in me!! :0)
Jason
38 for a few more months.
Eric, That was a long time ago, I believe between 1995 and 2000. You are correct, that was a 62@28 Jeffery Recurve that I hunted with in Africa! I still have that bow...
Oh, and no fair telling everyone about my gray hair! :biglaugh:
i turned 78 in november of 12. still get on a horse every morning to check cattle, work for the gov't on a contract basis doing some hydrology stuff, still compete in world flight and set a new lonbow record last fall, help my cambodian daughter in her restaurant in my spare time, and farm a lot of hay ground.
after 52 years in the archery industry i don't do that any longer.
50
Turned 49 today!
Soon to be 48..... that Five-O just keeps creeping up on me! Heck, I dont care! As long as I can Still Basically Do What I Want, with the Assistance of my Trusty Cane and My Knee Brace, LIFE IS GOOD!! Thank You Lord!!

And I resemble that remark in the middle at 54.
Lost almost 40 pounds and feel good.

43
God put me on this earth to shoot my trad bow and to go on hunting trips with my 17 grandchildren ( and still counting ) so there is so much to do I don't think I'm ever going to die
Hi Everyone my name is Gene, I am new to the Trad Gang but I have been hunting with a stick bow since 1958. My father bought me my first real bow for hunting when I was 13. I am now pushing 68. and I have never owned a compound bow. I still hunt every year only just a little slower. Proud to be associated with you all. GC
welcome mtnman1945
This pole results are suprising to me. I figured that the over 50 groups would win in a landslide, but the number under 50 is actually slightly ahead. Good to know that trad archery is still going strong.
Slightly burned out but still smokin' at 48. Bought my first bow a few months ago, 60# Iron Mountain longbow and have no problem hitting the target.
49....and will soon knock the 50 door wide open.
31
About to turn 59. Don't feel it, don't look it (I'm told), and don't usually act it! Got my first bow (not counting as a kid) in my 40's... shot a few years, life got topsy turvy and I didn't shoot again until a few years ago; so I'm still starting out- and loving it. Learning and practicing all the time. Blessed with a wife who shoots also, and all the woods and hills one could hope for to roam with the bow. Still looking forward to my first hunt!
42
oldest new trad archer started 8 years ago will be 80 next birthday beats golf for fun and meeting great people
63 and doing okay except for a bad back. Fortunately, it has not kept me from shooting the bow.
Im 63 Retired for eight years and shoot as often I can
Im 52 but my wife says I act like im 2

Yeah, and I'd bet that at least a few of those "over 50" archers voted twice because they forgot they had voted the first time, so maybe the ratio is even more in favor of the young guys! :archer:
Old enough to know I have a lot more to learn about bowhunting "eastern" whitetails...
43 today.
44 but act like 24. I wish my joints felt like they did when I was 24.
Happy Birthday Mr. bill langer. GC
26 years
I guess I'm one of the younger guys here. At 18 years old I've got a lot to learn and experience and I'm looking forward to it!
Caleb
39......for the 6th time.
