well... I decided today would be a beautiful day to go shoot my (new to me) recurve! I've been practicing on the bag target and its been getting dull, fast. I happened to buy some "bludgeon?" points ( blunt small game tips) and thought it was about time I take chance on some live game! I gathered a cooler full of drinks and snacks, bow, arrows, and took the long drive to the LOCAL WMA 45ish miles away! jeez.
Started my adventure around some nice looking vegetation that promised a cottontail or two for dinner.

After scavenging through oaks, briar's, wire grass, and even a little swamp bottom... I never saw a rabbit, or the first squirrel! Dinner was looking pretty skim.
I decided I would start practicing at the least before it got dark, so I started shooting stumps and small turkey oaks. I love the small blunts tips. Defiantly was a lot funner then shooting a bag.
I then made a VERY bad mistake... I came across a small washed out creek that went across the road... I didn't think much of it having 4WD... so I hugged the vegetation, and WHAM! sunk and stuck!

so, long story short... I called a friend to come bail me out (thank goodness for 4WD Humvee!) but while walking out to the main road I saw a nice size hog, 2 cottontails, and about 6 coons...
All in all, after all the headaches... it was well worth an afternoon adventure and fun. Beautiful day to be out.

Stumping is the best!
But then, is that a surprise coming from a guy called "Stumpkiller"?
Truck sinking . . . not so much fun.
Four-wheel-drive: Getting guys royally stuck much farther from help for over 100 years. ;-)
It's always fun to get out no matter what you doing. I usually go out in search of dinner but end up just setting down by a tree with my bow in my lap and enjoy the fresh air of Mother Nature. That's funny about your truck, it sucks getting stuck but you can usually always laugh at it!
haha Stumpkiller no doubt on the 4WD comment!!
I immediately went into wild survival mode after realizing I was stuck.
I first tryed to use the jack to lift one side of the truck for better traction. Then used chain, rope, and the bar for the jack to make a self pulley kind of system to which failed. I then used the lids to my cooler and hammered em under my tires... I also took my fire extinguisher and shoved it under the rear tire... FAIL. I then wrapped the chain around my tires...lol. I even used the duck decoy you see in the bed of the truck as a tireguid... All were unsuccessful.. I then just made the dreaded "lifeline to a buddy" call lol.
Stump'n is the best practice.....even better if you get couple of guys to go with you!!
Thanks Ron, that I'm sure it is!
Looks like fun, even the getting stuck part when looking back.
I know how it feels to be stuck. Thank GOD for friends with four wheel drives.
That last pic is Awesome!
Jason
Hope ya didn't lose that glove I sent ya in the swamp muck. ;)
I have been stuck before with four wheel drive to boot! Nice sunset pic.
Must have street tires on the toy. Those things go forever and with "good" tires are unstopable. Great choice of truck there just a small upgrade to the tires and you are set. A winch helps too just incase.
Well it's still better than a day at work!, that is as long as it don't cost you any extra $.
P.S. Nice pictures and thanks for sharing.
ahah yea the old "taco" does wonders USUALLY!
Unfortuantly she met her match that day, it was absolutly a blast other then the worry of getting out!
Tusc, I've been meaning to PM you! Hows your huntin been since we last talked?!
The glove has actually been more then perfect! I thought I would like the tab better, but the glove fits nice and has been working great for me!
Thanks again!
Sounds like a lot of fun! :archer:
Guru, it was nothing shy of a blast.
Congrats on your first rabbit! Thats awesome, can;t wait to bag my first!
stump shooting is great fun. and great practice.

No, this is stuck. Required an hour long walk out of the marsh at night, an hour long walk back in with equipment in the morning and lots of effort for a couple of hours by 3 of us to free her.

Stump shooting is the best. Up here in the mountains we have too much snow.Have to break out the snowshoes.
I went out yesterday for a couple hours but didn't bring the camera. Love stumpin'!

I'm glad. Went rabbit hunting with some buddies last weekend. Big kill of the day was a field mouse. Saw plenty of bunnies but they were sitting VERY loose.
reddoge, that IS stuck! lol
misfre, nice flu flu and awesome shooting!
Tusc, thats good to hear! I hope to be emailing you a pic of a good turkey soon! I pulled a few quotas for some promising public land spots... I'm practicing daily for it.
