Title: Calling all FMJ shooters!
Post by: mountain lion on January 14, 2013, 08:14:00 PM
Hey all, I'm shooting 51-53 pound RC that is cut 1/8 or 3/16 past center and i shoot 3 under and I was wandering if I could shoot the 400 spine arrows. I was gonna get the 75 gr brass inserts and use 150 gr broadheads. The reason I ask is because I currently have the 500 shooting them out of my 51 pound recurve with 125 gr point and the standard insert and they are cut to 29 1/8" so if I add the extra weight then they would have to be shorter. So what are your thoughts? Thanks

You shouldn't have any trouble shooting the 400's.

I am shooting 400 fmj 29.25" standard insert footed with 1.25" piece of 2018 and 200gr point,550 gr total arrow weight out of a D/R Longbow cut to center 51# @ 28"

400's should work. I shoot them out of an ACS 52# @ 28, but I draw around 30". 175 grains up front.

I shoot a FMJ 400 with a 50 gr. insert and 125 gr. point out of my Dryad ACS RC 51#@28 recurve. They weigh right about 500 grs.,I think I remember them coming out to about 29" long from my tuning.

I shoot FMJ 500 with 75 gr. insert and 125 gr. point in my R/D longbow. Never could get the 400's to fly right.

I shoot the 400's out of my zipper, 58# at my draw, 30.75", regular insert, 200 grain head.  They bare shaft just a tad weak, which is where I like to stop with a hunting arrow.  You can cut them shorter and add point/insert weight as you want to get to the arrow/head combo you want to shoot.  You could also leave them full length and use a lighter head.

I shoot full length, regular aluminum inserts and 125 points from both my widows. 53@28. Best shafts out there in my opinion

Excuse my newbie knowledge, however, to me FMJ is Full Metal Jacket. Just trying to keep up and learn as I read posts..." What is it?

You are actually exactly correct...it is a specific Easton shaft with a carbon core and aluminum outer.

Oh! its a newer arrow design, sorry for not knowing. Its been a while since I bought new carbon arrows.(wheelie days) Since going Trad in the the past year or two I been using aluminum and recently playing around with woodies.

Thanks,
