Does anyone know if Don is OK? I heard he had had a stroke in 2011. I had two of his bows and they were stolen out of my truck in Nov. I would like to get another one but have not been able to reach him. I have called and emailed.
I hope he is doing well and is just not making bows anymore. They are the best shooting bows I have ever shot. If anyone can give me some insight I would appreciate it.
Don't know what you are looking for, but there have been a couple in the classifieds lately.
True But unfortunately they are the dark side bows Right handed. :bigsmyl: I am looking for a Lefty. I have put an ad in classified "WTB Assenheimer Recurve"
Thanks for the input.
I would like to know also. Don is a super guy. I hope all is well.
Myself and my friend have tried several times without any luck.
I'll keep trying calling and email.

Ed where in the heck have you been man? Good to see you are around again!
i have tried several times and i give up.
I heard he was done building bows but I did not hear that from Don directly.
I hope not but understand if he has. The two I had were great. I had given the #52 to my son this year and was using a #70 I picked up here off of trad gang 5-6 years ago. Makes me sick that someone stole them. Was hoping maybe I could get one with my name or maybe my son's name on a custom made one. He makes one heck of a bow. He will be a Bowyer that will be missed.
I got the impression that he wintered in the south now. Might be the reason...
well that would be good. I hope that is why no one can get a hold of him. I'll keep trying though.

I spoke with Glenn Assenheimer earlier this evening. I had a bow that was in the process of being built. Unfortunately Don and his wife have been ill since October. Don has had surgery recently and will not be building bows anytime soon. Glenn asked that I pass the message around as they are still getting numerous phone calls regarding new bows. If you had a bow on order the deposit will be refunded.
Sorry to hear of their ill health. I had asked about some light limbs to add to my existing Assenheimer bows - If any one knows of something lower than 49# that is available, I will appreciate it!
Thanks David,
I hope both Don and his wife recover well. I met Don In WV some years ago and am sorry to hear that they are ill. I will not try to contact anymore and hope that maybe he will be back making bows again.
God Bless Don and his wife and family
I am sorry to hear he is not well. He is a great guy. Hope he and his wife start doing better soon
Don's bows are legendary. Hope he gets to feeling better.
Don and his wife are the best....Hope they get back to good health!!

Sorry for the late topic title change but I finally figured out how to change/edit post.
Thanks to David for the info
Ed, when I spoke with Glenn he did state that Don was hoping to get back to building "some bows" once he was back feeling well.
That would be great. It would be nice to have one custom made from him if he got back to building bows.
My first custom bow was made by Don. His bows are some of the best out there. Hope Don and his wife get back to good health.

I have two of Don's bows, they are the best. Hope he and his wife are doing well.
If anyone has any updates in the future please post them.
I sold a few of Donnie's bows when I had my trad shop. Back then, not the fastest but were extremely smooth, stable and very pointable. I spent 2 days with Donnie at Denton Hill some years ago and he was a pleasure to be around. I recently heard due to health issues he stopped building bows.
