I went to my garden the other day and saw this little guy eating my tomatos,so I holler you better quit eating my maters. He looks at me,(still chewing) and starts walking to me.Now I expected him to come unglued when I yelled, so I walk up and touch him. Then I walked him to my brother-in-laws maters and say you can have all of these you want.My question is why did he not spook???Why was he alone??His moma should'nt have booted him out this early.I saw him in with a bachelor group of bucks last night. It just don't make sense to me..

OUTSTANDING
Very neat pictures!
One time I had a yearling doe walk out of the woods about 20 yards from me and stop. I held out my hand and 'called' her and she came right to me, like dog. I was holding a rifle, too! After a minute or so, she bolted. One of my most memorable encounters in the woods.

He is a "Spirit Deer" and he is bringing you a message.....
(PLANT MORE TOMATOS!!!!!)
VERY COOL!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
strange..my wife was at an outside party in a subdivision last week when a deer walked into the yard started eating flowers and the folks ended up walking up to it and feeding it out of their hands....all i can say is the neighbors must feed them all the time and they get used to people kind of like a squirrel in a city park... kind of interesting.....
That's too cool Stephen, Thanks for posting the pictures!!
Sounds like your choice of browse for your food plot was great.
:bigsmyl:  Thats Cool...
Now if you could just train him to bring the big boys with him when comes for a visit.
Cool pic's, bet that was a surprise!! Most of had a fair amount of other human interaction.
Still really neat
Brent
awsome pics.
that is awesome for a wild deer.
Great pics! Your boy will remember that for a long time.
careful, if the wife gets attached it may be the end of your hunting for any deer. Mine's still pissed that I shot "her" deer last year. :)
Great stuff! that is just amazing<><
So cool!
I had a fawn walk s-l-o-w-l-y down a hillside and finally sniff my fingertips some 35 years ago, but I never moved the whole time.
I was amazed my scent didn't "send" him. After his review, I said aloud, "Buddy, you'd better learn what that is, and keep away from it. Hunting season starts in 3 weeks."
He looked up, surprised something alive was attached to those strange-smelling "twigs," and s-l-o-w-l-y worked away, taking a look back from time to time. It is among my favorite outdoor memories.
Your story and experience is all the more interesting and impressive! Thanks for the story and pics.
I used to shoot a lot of competitive Skeet/Trap/Sporting clays.
We were having a shoot at Ft.Ben Harrison Army base in Indianapolis on a Sunday.
A herd(family) of deer came out and started feeding on the grass, well within skeet gun range.
We had to call the shoot until we could shoo them off. Not the least afraid of gunfire.
Maybe somebody hand-raised him?
That son of yours is getting big!
Killdeer
now what kind of tomatoes are those???
How neat! You'd better be careful about the deer though, I heard of a kid who was killed by a deer when he was feeding it. He made it made it mad.
Sean
Somebody probably turned him out of their pen!
That would be surprising!
I believe he must have been caught and someone got him used to people.
Thanks for sharing.
Makes one think hard and long before taking an iffy shot. Best wishes to you both. :-))))
cool pics Stephen. I don't want to hear you gripe about my yard anymore. The deer round here won't let you get within 30 yards most times.
Ahhh "The Yearling".... I love that movie.
That right there is good stuff
That's really cool!
Great pics but I was thinking stewed tomatoes and venison back-strap (in a few weeks of course)...
We were in Poccosin lakes nwr when we had a yearling walk out of the woods into the logging path about 100yds ahead. At first i started a stalk on her but realized how young she was.....then i ceased my hunting stalk and began a"fun" stalk. I got within 10 yds. and realized she didnt care if i was there or not. I got down on my knees and she walked to me and licked my hand. No way could i shoot at this deer.....kinda humbling actually.
Also had possum come up to me in a deerblind, stood up on his hind legs and tried to climb my leg....%&$#@%$@**&....he died!
Tim
Thanks for the kind words.I don't think he was raised by anyone, because I saw a doe with two fawns early this year in the garden.I just figured he was one of the fawns since I have never had a problem with deer in the garden before.Another note, after touching the deer I had this gummy stuff on my hands like handling a leather coller on an old coon dog type gummy. When I went to wash my hands I had to smell them for some strange reason, and there was absolutly no odor what so ever.
Stephen
VERY COOL! remember that for a while
Hi all,
That's awesome! I don't want to hijack this thread but a similar thing happened to us last year. We had 3 button bucks show up one day behind my brother-in-law's house he was building. The mother was killed by a car a couple of houses down. They let us pet, feed even head butt with them. Only one was skiddish, the other two seemed like they had no fear. It was awesome for the kids! They only hung around for a couple of weeks then we started seeing them off in the fields with other deer. We heard that one of them got hit by a car on another road about a month later. Here's some pics (I hope)

Awesome pics....more please!!!
Stephen , he is not a fawn. I believe he would still have spots and that would be a big fawn. Ours here in NY weigh no more than 50#s or so right now and when season rolls around about 75#s or so tops. Shawn
I guess it's just 'mama' that warns them of us then.
If mama doe isn't there they must be more trusting than is good for them....Interesting.
Me too.
This little button buck was raised by a couple in town that 'found' him after his mother 'disappeared'. He would make daily travels through our yard to the edge of town (1/2 mile) and hang with the wild deer and then go back home. His name was Buck-Buck and he became a real nuisance by raiding the gardens and flower beds along his route.

YES!!!!!!! That is AWESOME. Good Luck with your new friend.
I think what you have here is a 1/2 tame deer. My brother-in-law had one too. Once they get 2 1/2 years old they become very dangerous. My brother-in-law suffered several stitches when "little bucky" became a fork horn. Be careful and good luck.
