Let us know how many 3-D targets you have in your back yard setup!
Brand?
Critter?
How do they hold up to weather, and repeated shooting?
I have 5, all Mckenzies (deer-2, hog, antelope, coyote.) They have been exposed to NW weather of hot, cold, rain, snow, etc. for 8-10 years and still good to go. They have discolored and seem to have become "brittle" and would last longer if I had them covered.
Squirrels and woodpeckers seem to do more damage than my arrows.
A McKenzie deer target has been a fixture in my back yard for at least 20-25 years.I just wore the last one out and was thinking of trying out one of the Glen Del bucks.
They held up well until broadhead practce. Then got shot out pretty quick
Chickadees do the damage here. Had them bore a hole in one target's butt and make a nest. They bored another in ones neck and roosted in it during the winter.
What surprises me it that you can shoot in your backyards. I would like to, but am concerned about neighbors and shooting a weapon etc . . .. I shoot in my garage instead, but have to go to the range for greater distance.
It's legal in my area, I've been cleared by my neighbors, I am hyper-careful, and I have a large yard with lots of clearance on all sides. My neighbors even bring their kids over to shoot from time-to-time.
Still interested in your 3-D target setups. Anyone using the more exotic targets at home? Leopards, baboons, goats, etc.?
I actually shoot from my front yard along my house into the backyard. When we want to shoot longer we go into the street.Yellow line on the road is 26 yards to my target. Can get 30-50yards if I go down my neighbors drive way. Yep,I've got good neighbors. :D
Having good neighbors is a key. :knothead:
I live in a northeast Philadelphia row home, and shoot in my backyard often. I only have a square foam target there now, but will be putting a Reinhardt turkey or other small target out there in the spring. I also recently put a bag target in my basement, and if I wedge myself into the laundry room between the furnace and water heater, I can get a little over 7 yards across. :D
I can't wait to get an animal target out in the yard.!
Mine are sometimes in the yard and sometimes running from the yard, lol. In summer it's chipmunks and winter is squirrels and bunnys. For consistent practice it's a block style target. 3d versions are to expensive for my wallet, for the most part anyways. I always seem to be a day late for the clearance sales, lol.
Here's another thought for the budget-minded: Many archery clubs frequently replace their 3-D targets that have seen lots of use. Suggest that they offer them to members at discount prices rather than toss in the dumpster. I've picked up critters before that have lots of life left for the back yard for a fraction the cost of a new one.
I don't have any but my neighbor has a 17 target range in the pines across from my house! He has several Deer, Pigs, 3 Bear, Wolf, a couple of Mt Lions most are Mckenzies he bought them from a guy that had a range that went out of business he has repaired alot of them!
Reading this I realize how lucky I am living with my nearest neighbor over a mile away. I have never really thought much about shooting guns or bows in my yard until reading this. thank you for making me stop and give thanks. I usally have three archery targets in the main yard. in the winter if the snow is deep, I set up targets up in the barn loft. It is 105ft long so I can vary the distance a bit and not have to dig in the snow for arrows. No heat, but staying out of the wind and having some lights to shoot at night is a great stress reliever.
I moved all my 3D and assorted targets into my shop and shoot. My shop is only about 20yds long, but I can open up the bay door and make longer shots. For a backstop, I bolted 2x4s to the beams, and then bolted the 4x6' horse stall mats to it.
4,(an Impala, black bear,2 turks) and a bunch of bag targets.Have 40 yards max.Got a few holes in the Sears shed tin behind it too.I dont have any idea how got there.Theyll last longer if you keep them covered.
I only have a strutting Mackenzie. At some our local clubs they sell their used center sections for about 5.00 so I buy a couple a year and have them setup at different distances.
I love my little range. 1st shot is a 22yrd Mackenzie buck,(slight quartering to). 2nd is a Rinehart buck,25yrd (broadside). 3rd is a Mackenzie feeding buck,20yrds(slight quartering away). 4th is a alert Mackenzie buck,15yrds (slight quartering away). 5th is a Mackenzie buck slight quartering away 25yrds. 6th is a Mackenzie feeding buck,20yrds,(broadside). 7th is a 15yrd Mackenzie turkey. 8th is a Mackenzie Black Bear 22yrds,(slight quartering away). 9th is a Delta Coyote,15yrds,(through a small opening in a pine tree cluster). 10th is a Delta standing buck,18yrds,broadside,(through a tight squezze in the pines). 11th is a 18yrd shot at a Delta Javelina,(downhill). 12th is another Delta Javelina,18yrds,(heavy downhill, with the hills crest in front of you). I have 2 treestand senarios to utilize on my range, and also can shoot it from the targets backsides with different distances, and angles so,it is effectively a 24 shot range when going back through on the flipside. Yardsales,Craigslist, ranges, etc. you can get a nice range for a fair price. All my targets are still in very good condition. I maintain them well. And I shoot there every day. VERY GOOD THERAPY after a long days work. I set them up through the woods, and pines at home. rat'
That sounds like a party (or an addiction  ) to me!
How much luck have you had on CL? May try to start me a little range on the cheap to tune up for the circuit.
So-Mo,I picked up 4 of CL. I check often on there. But check any local ranges,or rod&gub clubs for targets they have replaced. I really have had luck there. rat'
'Rat, make way... I think I'm comin' for a visit... :wavey:
Come on up Archie! We'll go Steelhead fishing after we've worn our fletching's out! rat'

I gotta bunch: Delta fox, coon, bear and deer. Rinehart deer, turkey, steggi, coyote, boar, javi, beaver, coon, wolverine, 18-1 and few more that I can't think of right off. Most of them I take out only for a few days at a time because I don't live in an area where I would leave them out all of the time. The Rineharts are the best for repeated shooting, hold up the best and easiest arrow pull. Plan on selling all of my Delta's this spring and replacing them with Rineharts.
I have one. Just bought it today to help prep for bear quest. I think it is a Delta. I drove an hour and a half to bass pro shop and bought the only bear target they had. It was their display and they didn't have the box, lol.
1 wolf, 2 coy dogs, 1 turkey, 1 bear, 1 bobcat, 5 deer, old platform from kids swing set for a little elevation, or a ladder stand. various manufactors, got most from clubs getting rid of old targets, try to change locations of targets every month, have had shoots with friends and neighbors, along with game dinner its alot of fun.
2 MacKenzie bears, 1 elk, 1 mule deer, 1 mountain goat, 1 javelina, 1 Delta deer.
I don't have neighbors so no problems shooting when and where I want.
My range is about 100yd up behind my house along the woods. I can shoot 75yd from either side of my targets. I've got very little $ invested in my targets.
A strutting McKenzie turkey. I got it for free from the local club after the scoring rings bacame hard to distinguish.
A McKenzie boar. I got it for free from a buddy at work. He broke off the front leg by accident and just gave it to me. I've got it all proped up and secured.
I also have a foam blob for broadheads and a bag target.
Back in the woods I made a feed sack course along a path. I have 8 stuffed plastic feed sacks tied to saplings that I can shoot at from both directions. Didn't cost me a thing. Of course, the rotten stumps, chipmunks, groundhogs, and deer living in the woodlot are pretty nice targets too.
Next to the house is a 1000yd long hay field where I can take flight shots or shoot round hay bales.
I'm pretty lucky. :)
I've got two old targets a deer and a turkey.... the turkey lost it's head years ago but the deer is still holding up.
here is my shooting lane at the 70 yard line... the target is waaaaaay back there if you look close.
Mostly i use a big foam block for broadheads
2'X 2'X 4' high. they are marine floats for docks.

Standing black bear and caribou. Gets people to slow down even had a couple folks turn there car around
2 turkeys, 2 deer, a cougar, a boar, and an old vital insert to practice for small game. I'm lucky that I can shoot in my yard.
no 3-d's yet I just shoot an old bag target in the front yard, the lake is in the back and i would loose too many arrows, also considering the Glen Dell deer
I have four McKenzies.....a hog ,two deer and a groundhog.....
2 delta bucks, 1 delta antelope, 1 Mckenzie mule deer, 1 Mck. bear, 1 Mck. javie, 1 Rinehart standing turkey. All the Mckenzies I picked up used the javie was given to me and the others I bought new. Fortunately I live in the country on about 12 acres so I have plenty of room to set them up!
Steve
I cut some paths at camp for a mini 3-D course. So far a deer and two home made foam filled turkey targets. I'll start looking for some deals on used ones, great idea.
I have 3 in my backyard. I have a Delta boar I can shoot from my front yard along the side of my house up to 35 yards. I have a McKenzie buck I can stretch a 25 yard shot at diagonally across my back yard. I also have a Rhinehart buck that I can shoot at about 15 yards max. I put 4'x4' backstops with plywood and rubber mats behind each of them and have them set where I am never shooting directly toward any of my neighbor's yards. I also made sure they were fine with it before I set each target.
I have about 20. Most I have bought from clubs when they buy new targets and auction their old ones. I repair them and use them in the yard.
Some of the targets I bought new from Big Jim and a couple from Bass Pro. A couple I have made from the remains of targets too shot up to repair. I use my knife and shape remaining parts into ground hogs, owls and other small critters. I can shoot out to about 60 yds on a couple of the tarfets but usually shoot at around 20-30 yds.
I have 30 targets That are set up all summer long and then come in out of the woods in late Aug. early Sept. some of those targets are 15 to 2o years old as I inherited them from a bow club here in town. The targets are still going strong. Need to repair occasionally but doing well. A mix of Mackenzie and Rinehart with a couple R&D's and Delta's thrown in.
