I've been fighting a respiratory infection since the end of November, so the chronograph I got from my son for Christmas has been sitting in the den. I finally felt well enough to venture outside for a bit today and shot a few arrows through it.

Here is what I learned:

46# Kanati with 475 grain arrow (10.32 grains per pound) averaged 175 feet per second.

47# RER XR with 475 grain arrow (10.1 grains per pound) averaged 184 feet per second.

I read somewhere that if you like your bow, don't chronograph it or you will be disappointed. I love both these bows, and I'm not the least disappointed in the results. Seems like they are zipping right along to me. I'll have to drag out some more bows next time and see how they compare.

I think most of the chrono tests I have seen use 9 gpp arrows. I suppose that would have made the bows a bit faster, but I don't hunt with that weight, so I'm not going to test with that weight.

The chrono is kind of fun, but it doesn't really mean all that much as far as hunting goes. Now if I could just quit coughing so I could get outside a bit more...   :(

Ejoy it.  I love playing around with mine.  They are very cool to test new arrow set ups through.  Those are good numbers for your bows!

That's pretty impressive numbers.....you can hunt just about anything with those set ups.I'm not a speed kind'a guy but I like to have an idea of what's going on. You must be pretty well tuned!   :thumbsup:

Those are very fast numbers at 10 grains per lb.

Sounds like the two main weapons are spitting an arrow out at very impressive fps rates . Hope ya get to feeling better soon ; so far we have avoided the flu here .

Yeah, I was pretty happy with those numbers. Guess my lightweight bows aren't too wimpy after all!

I am starting to think I might actually live now. I was beginning to wonder there for a while. I still cough and wheeze a little but not like I was by a long shot. I managed to have the intestinal flu and the other flu during this seven week cough. Been taking vitamin C and drinking lots of orange juice and eating grapefruit. I think that is doing me more good than the high powered antibiotic the doc prescribed that didn't seem to do a thing. At least I'm finally starting to be able to sleep more than a couple hours without coughing myself awake this week.

Been hoping to get down and chase some yotes with you, Frank, but I just haven't felt up to it yet. I haven't been getting many calls to sub lately, which is probably a good thing I guess.

Gator, those RERs are addictive! I think mine is a keeper for sure. Don't know that I need more than one. Between the Kanati and the XR I don't think I could find two better bows.

Left out draw length - need ALL info to make comparisons meaningful. If you have a 27" draw those are great numbers, if you have a 31" draw they sound below average.

I draw right at 28", maybe just a tad less,but pretty darn close. All shots were with a cordovan tab, shooting off the shelf. I knew I was leaving something out. I was shooting from five feet in front of the chrono, per recommendations in the instructions for bows.

Oh, and I was shooting carbons (Beman ICS Bowhunter 500s), with 180 grains up front. They are 23.25% FOC.

Russ glad to hear your starting to feel better . The yote hunting has been pretty good . There seems to be lots of deer and my goodness is there ever a lot of turkeys seen 15 long beards all together today and more jakes and hens to count . Oh ya had a small 8 point jump a fence and both antlers fell off never seen that before . Get well and get down here .       sorry bout the double post

Very good numbers for a hunting set up and 10 gpp.

At 10gpp, I think anything over 175 fps for a 28" finger draw with a hunting rig is excellent.

That's what I was thinking too. Not that it mattered a lot because I know these bows get the job done. It's just nice to see that bows I thought were pretty quick truly are.

Yep, those are good numbers reflecting known bowyers of high skill level and good form and release on your part. Good Hunting!

I recently did some testing with a couple RER's and they were both very close to 180 fps with 10 gpp.
