Okay guys I won $600 towards a custom Big Jim bow.On another thread(apology and thank you to Big Jim bow Co)is my story of how this happen yesterday. But now that is all good and I spoke with Jim today I am on the list.I have time to think of wood combo and would like some input.I have never won anything in my life so I want this bow to be something special. One guy suggested I name the bow "Rude Behavior" and I like it so I am going to get that put on the bow.So what wood combo would be good for a bow with that name?I am thinking maybe black and white ebony ,horn overlay on back, horn tips and of course a 2 piece Thunderchild.Any ideas would be appreciated. And I did check out his slideshow many times Wow there is some beautiful bows Thanks John

I think you have great tastes already, and I love the name! LOL
Good luck, picking out the wood combos is half the fun!

Kinda sounds to me like ya got a great choice already bud....grate on the bow.

Congrats on the win! That black and white ebony is awesome. If I was gonna have a custom bow made I would be sweating so much on deciding on the wood combinations. I believe that would be one the hardest things to decide because they are all nice looking woods.
-
I am jealous even before you get the bow! Black and white ebony is definitely on my wish list.

With Jim, I would give him an idea what you are looking for then let him run with it. He builds some of best looking bows on the planet in my opinion.

I really like Honduras rosewood.

The more tulip wood that's in it the better. How 'bout, ALL tulip wood!
Bocote and ebony is beautiful too.
I read your other post. I love the name you picked out for your new bow! Pretty creative.
Congrats!

Keep it coming guys a lot of choices
Doug wish I was that creative but Stykbow 67 came up with the name for the bow.

We just replaced the windows in our house and I was thinking..."That would make great veneeers if only I could retain the flaking paint and a bit of the oxidized wood" yeah, I know, it wouldn't be black and white ebony, but sure would be different in a rustic sort of way..I could always add a little unicorn horn to set it off a little :)
Sometimes my mind just kind of goes into strange places that my body can't fit in.

That sounds like an awesome combination.

I got one coming that is osage and cocobolo. I think bamboo limbs always look tuff. Ebony riser and bamboo limbs, cocobolo riser and bamboo limbs, shrimp and bamboo limbs. I don't know I think something with bamboo limbs.
-
How about a Cocobolo and Gaboon Ebony riser with Tulipwood veneers over a Bamboo core......IJ
-
If the Big Guy has any desert ironwood left, you won't see a more stunning wood.
-
Just turn Jim loose with what he has on hand. You won't be disappointed.
-
I like the Cocobolo riser with an Osage strip and Osage Limbs with antler overlays and tips.
-
Snakewood and ebony in the riser, myrtle or figured maple for the limbs, horn overlays.
Black and white ebony would be nice too.

It sounds like a lot of thought has gone into the looks of the bow. I like a pretty bow as much as the next guy, but I wonder if some wood is just plain better for a bow? Does some wood produce more or less handshock? That would be one of my main concerns.

Rosewood riser and yew cores are pretty awesome. Yew over boo is hard to beat as well. Brown glass over tempered boo with a cocobollo riser looks real class. Heck it is hard to think of just one combo!

Red Elm limbs & Curly Maple Riser... let the bowyer dress up the riser.
I'd like one someday. I like North American woods in my bows.
-
Bacote/wenge riser with zebra veneers would be saaaweet!
-
I have grown fond of this combo...zebra / bacote riser and olive ash limbs
