Just wondering if I'm the only one that doesn't like antler limb bolts and snake skins on a otherwise beautiful bow...or a bunch of writing by the bowyer on great looking limbs....gettin' picky in my old age I guess
yep, that is what makes every bow and bow owner unique.
Yes you are the only one. :bigsmyl:
I think they look nice but don't have them on my bows. I kind of like the skins best of the two for the natural camo.
I like skins on selfbows but not a big fan of them on glass bows.
I really dislike snake skins. However, I really like antler limb bolts. But to each his own
I like them all :bigsmyl:
I'm with Gen273. I like the antler limb bolts but not a fan of the snake skins. My bow also has the make, bowyer, and says its custom made for me. It may take away from it aesthetically, but its personalized for me and I like that. Even with the writing I think it's one of the prettiest bows I've ever seen. To each his own. ;)
I like skins ecspecially when u kill your own, and Nobody can Ever have a bow that looks the same as yours . I personally don't think carbon looks that good so I put skins over them. I like antler burs as well. Honestly I've never seen a trad bow I didn't like or want to shoot. Some like em some don't guess that's what makes everybodies bows different and special to them.
I have antler and skins on one bow, but on my newest bow have none, and love the look of both bows (or I wouldn't own them). I see where you are coming from, but like all kinds of different looking bows.
Double post
don't get me wrong ; I like snake skins on hat bands and cowboy boots ; but if I pay a premium for bacote or bubinga or any other exotic wood I want to see it (on both sides of the bow ), as far as antler burr limb bolts ; I think they look clunky on a bow ; but I like em and make em for cabinet drawer pulls....
I like snake skins but can't understand antler limb bolts! They ruin many a nice looking bow for me :(
LOL, I just bought a pair of antler limb bolts off a forum member for my Zipper AND I'm thinking of putting snake skins on the carbon side of the limbs! LOL!!
I don't have either, but I do like them.
I like both and have neither on my go to bow
If either keeps your boat afloat....then all you need to do is paddle !!
Froggy
Snakeskins on longbows...

I'm in the "to each his own" crowd. Personally, I've never seen antler limb bolts that didn't, to my eye, completely destroy the lines of an otherwise beautiful bow. OTOH, snake skins are great camo and add a degree of wildness to a bow...all in by expert, limited, humble opinion, of course! :D
I like snake skins on certain bows...not all. I have had one bow out of 20 with snake skins on limbs and did it purely to cut down the shine from light woods under clear glass...and some camo. I like them on selfbows quite a bit especially when covering up sinew or rawhide backing...it just looks right to me.
antler bolts...i like them sometimes and before I order a set, I change my mind. I think it depends on the bow and I believe I like them on larger bow risers with the darker woods to offset all that surface area a little. I dont like them combined with snake skins...I think it is too busy.
like someone said...that is why their are options for everyones taste.
I cant for the life of me see how anyone would
-shoot ILF bow
-use hot pink fletching
-add sights, peeps or stabilizers to a beautiful wooden masterpiece
-shoot at a whitetail over 35 yards
-not enjoy the sounds of the forests at sunrise as the sun starts warming frost kissed ground
-not enjoy a silent paddle through mist covered water to set up a hunting camp
-relish the solitude of being a solo hunter
then again that is just me.. :)
IMO, depends on the bow. I won't cover up beautiful wood veneers but might have the antler bolts. Some bows, IMO look out of balance with the limbolts though as "they stick too far out". On un-veneered carbon limbs, then I'll put skins. On some bows, I do both antler bolts and skins.
Kyle
I have antler bolts on one take down the buck my father shot when he was the same age it was birthday present he made them and they look like a pro did them beautiful Im gonna get limbs and have them sent out to be skinned for it also but I'm a huge fan of one piece recurves with camo bow socks in old camo patterns just cause I can take them on and off and swap camo and it protects my bows even on my shortest recurve a sheepeater spirit static recurve

Ilike the snake skins very well, although I do not own a bow with them. The antler limb bolts look to me like they would cause a lot of trouble on a bow. Like banging up aginst the other bows in the truck when driving to a spot and maybe catching clothing while on the stand.
But then again, I hear alot of wheel bow shooters asking how in the world I use a 66" bow in a tree...to me, its never been a problem.
I've never had skins on a bow but think they look nice from the pictures.
I do like real antler limb bolts, hate the fake ones. The thing that's nice about antler bolts is you never need to worry about having or loosing the allen wrench if you want to take your bow down.
I love antler bolts when the burrs lay right down on the limb . When they stick up high they are downright ugly to me. Snakes are only good for one thing. Skinning bows. Done nicely I love em. In fact I just bought two pairs of copperheads from Charles.
God bless you all, Steve
You know, it's sort of like pretty, young girls. I've never seen two exactly alike but I enjoy looking at them all. At my age, if I tried picking up a pretty girl I'd probably get slapped and get a hernia at the same time.
At least with the bows I can still pick them up, fondle them and even have a good time with them.
I like skinned up bows, surely depends on the bow.You know, over a black glass shinny bow for camo.Im not an antler burr bolt guy though, for myself.Kind of appreciate it that some guys love them though and kind of like seeing them if they are done right.
I like snake best on primitive self bows but have seen other laminated and a few glass bows that look good with them. I don't have skins on any of my bows. I have no particular opinion of antler bolts as I shoot only 1 piece bows. But I have seen some bows that looked very nice with them and would be proud to be seen shooting them.
You're not alone, I don't care for either of them, and won't have them on my bows. But as just about everyone else has said, to each their own.
(http://eaglewingarchery.i8.com/images/Ryan/ryan12.jpg) Ya mean like this, Note the snakeskinned antler knobs. Now that ought to just fry your chicken, LOL
God bless you all, Steve
Here's another one you will fall in love with ;) Skins cover carbon. Antlers don't snag or cause any problems (and like someone said, you don't need a wrench):

Sweet looking SXT Will !!!
Bill
Good looking SXT. I have bull snake skins on mine, osage in the riser as well. Love it.
yaooowza...sixby.....that fried my chicken fer sure...snake skins on antler burrs ....who da thunk it ? I been thinkin bout mounting a rubber squeezey bicycle horn on my next bow...just to get everyones attention on the 3D course...aooooooga....
I can care less for limb bolts and snake skins... As for the rest I,m with Brock...
I don't really dig skins or antler bolts. But then again I don't like fancy woods if they are just veneers. I just like to see the wood or 'boo thats doin the work. I got my name on mine though....not like anybody would steal a bow as plain and drab as mine :biglaugh:
figured the bolts ought to match the limbs
Dislike both myself and have passed on buying bows that had them on. Antler overlays too.......
I like camo....
I've gone to putting the limb bolts in through the riser into a t-nut in the limb because I think even the bolt head and washer are ugly on a takedown.

Doug,
I agree. No snake skins or antler bolts for me.
Don't like snake skins at all. As far as antler bolts, I have them on my Zipper, but I don't think they look
good on all bows. Just my opinion. God bless.
Well, I have to disagree. And if we ever meet please just say "Nice bow". I'm kidding, I love the snake skins and antler bolts on my bow and that's all that matters.
I've had the same take down recurve since high school (early ninties, I know). A few years ago I decided that since I couldn't buy a new bow I would dress up the one I have. So I had some antler bolts made and skinned my bow myself.
Now I have the same old bow but I think it's dressed up. I must also say I appreciate how you worded your opinion. A similiar topic was started on another sight in regards to take down recurves. The guy said he "hated" them and thought they were "ugly". I was offended to say the least. Everyone has their opinion and I appreciate how you expressed yours. Thank you sir.
I for one like curves, gnarly nobs and scaly skin, just ask my wife! :coffee:

I don't prefer snake skin or antler bolts but that's a work of art! Looks kinda prickly though. Does it hurt if you grip it tight?
"Does it hurt if you grip it tight?" Not at all. This bow feels great in my hand--the stippling adds to the comfort.
p.s. I love the skinned antler bolts that Steve put on my bow.
Ha you got another grumpy ole guy here I don't care for them either. To each his own!
(http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/002-10.jpg) Then you'll just HATE this one Dale Dye with skins (http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq136/bloodtrailer7/IMG_0717-1.jpg)
What's better than Natures own CAMO!
I do fewer snakeskinned bows than non snakeskinned bows but suspect that some just do not want to pay the price but do like them; I have noticed that the people that do not want snakeskins on a bow are intensly objectionable to them. Not a problem here. I only showed Stryders bow because it had the matching snakeskin on the antler burrs and thought it would be kind of fun considering the title.
No offense meant to anyone and sure hope none taken.
God bless you all, Steve
LOVE THE SKINS, NOT SURE ABOUT THE ANTLER LIMB BOLTS
I guess it's because I have the skins on my Widow PCH that is cross grain greybark on the inside, and i like the rattler skin much better than i do the greybark
I think they'd go good with a coon tail tied to one tip.
