Here is the story.I am a foreman for a flooring company and we are doing a big hospital job. There is a lot of problems with the concrete on the job so its job meeting after job meeting.Owners and estimators calling me all day long, just seemed like one of those days when nothing was getting done and nothing could go right. So I am trying to get something done and my phone rings for about the 50th time today,I look and the number says its from GA.Well I dont know anyone in Ga so i answer and the lady is telling me I won,I cant hear who she is or what company she is calling from, because its so noisey on the construction site.I thought she said she was from some stove company so i tell her I am not interested and dont call me and I hang up.Well end of day I get in my truck and check my emails and there it is.A email from Big Jim,Jims wife Debbie sent the email saying she just wanted to make sure I understood she was not trying to sell me anything. And that my name was drawn for the Grand Prize of $600 towards a custom bow built by Big Jim.She wanted to be fair and make sure I understood what was going on.First thing that came to mind is WHAT AN IDIOT I am.So I called Debbie and apologized for my rude behavior and thanked her for emailing me.My wife said not to post this because I would look like more of an idiot. But I thought everyone should know what good people Jim and Debbie are.She didnt have to email me but she did.So again Debbie I am sorry for the rude behavior and thank you for the email. And also I am 42 years old and never won anything in my life. This could be my lucky bow,now to figure out what wood combo I want in my new Thunderchild.
You are a gentleman sir. And congrats on being a winner
John
You have my respect for posting your confession. IMO a lot of whats wrong in this great country is lack of taking responsibility for our mistakes.
A big Thank you to Debbie and Big Jim Archery for offering you grace for your transgression..
God bless all of you
><>>
Glenn
Congrats on your new Thunderchild order.I have spoke to both Debbie and Bigjim several times on the phone and I know Debbie will not let you off that easy.
Good things happen to good people, sounds like you needed some good news. :clapper:
Great down to earth people to deal with. And I say good man for admitting a mistake.Keep us posted on woods you choose.
Meathook
Oh man, I guess I can uncross my fingers now...congrats on the bow. Enjoy, it will be an awesome bow for sure.
That's funny! I hope I did not hang up on anybody trying to actually give me something! Lord knows I have had a thousand chances by now.
Great story! Good for you, wigeon.
Igor, I agree with you completely.
Congratulations! We all make mistakes and... you admitted it! Now, start thinking about wood combinations...
We all make mistakes, you handled it head on in a commendable fashion. Congrats on winning a fantastic prize.
Awesome story- Now it's time to relax and spend some time drooling while looking at Big Jim's slideshow to help pick out wood combos. Those bows rock.
Yup. Good deal and good on you. Now what you should have said is " I'm not interested dont call me, call matty" he is! Hahaha congrats to you and thanks to big jim for giving us all who bought from him the opportunity.
Way to represent SE PA, Wigeon. Proud of you!
Tom
Good post, And Big Jim's is a great place to deal with! Maybe even better realized!
Your a good person for makng it right, a lot of people wouldn't.
also, go buy a lotto ticket tomorrow before your luck runs out! lol
Sounds to me like you responded the same way most anybody would have given the same circumstances, me included, just not everybody would have made amends like they should!! Good on you  Enjoy that bow and I think it's new name should be "Rude Behavior" just as a reminder! Haha
Steve
You done good, um, after you messed up that is.... But good recovery.
Big Jim and Mrs Debbie are tops !
steve thats a great name... very cool..i get so many of those calls a day i would have done the same thing..enjoy...i think steve just named your bow though... :bigsmyl:
Awesome story. Awesome of you to post it.
Big Jim and Miss Debbie are AWESOME folks.
Big Jim makes some AWESOME looking bows with Black and White Ebony. Jus sayin.
Now that Stykbow just named the bow for me,what wood combos would be good for a "Rude Behavior" TC?
:clapper:
Nice recovery!
Hey those kind of things happen... nice everything got worked out congratulations on your first win!!
That's funny! Glad you are still able to collect your prize. I hope its a luck bow!
Congrats to you
Congratulations on winning the new bow. Sometimes you just gotta sit back and laugh at yourself when you do something like that and think OH CRAP WHAT DID I JUST DO. I had to laugh thinking what it would have been like to be a fly on the window and being able to see the look on your face when you realized what happened. Good for you for telling the story and being a standup guy about it.
Glad things worked out for the good. It was nice that you recognized Debbie and Jim here and extended a public apology for your behavior.
It is good to see people can still do the right thing. Thumbs up for Debbie and Jim!
Congratulations on winning and thanks for being a gentleman. Restablishes my faith in mankind.
:archer:
Hey, I can understand not wantingg to deal with sales people when you're busy and trying to hear amidst noise. 2 things that drive me nuts!
Good job to publicly apologize !!
 good people, congrats
Cool story and thanks for posting! Who amongest us wouldn't have probably did the exact same thing. Only a few special folks would have posted the apology story! Big Jim and company are great folks to deal with!!
Congrats
It would be funny if the bow arrived and instead of Big Jim's well known "Pick a Spot" label being written on it, it instead read something like, "Don't Hang Up". :)
"Made special for wigeon
by Someone Who Isn't a Salesman"
P.S. Good on you.
That's what it means to be a man. When you mess up, you own up to it. Thumbs up!
Sounds like good people on both sides of this deal! Congratulations on your exciting win!
No sweat Wigeon. I knew that's what happened when she told me about the conversation. I spend enough time on the phone to choke a horse and have had many solicitors interupt me with free things and great deals.
For the record...Debbie is my Sister outlaw/(wife's sister) Yes, we are proud to have her but she is not nearly as nice to me as she is to ya'll out there. :)
Thanks, BigJim
:clapper:
John, Congratulations on winning a great shooting bow. Everyone a Big Jims has been great to deal with. Great story, we have all been there. Enjoy
John, now you can sell me back my BW limbs ????
Congrats bud.
Well, that is just a good story. I have yet to find a bowyer that is not upstanding. These craftsmen (and women) are, kind, patient, considerate and helpfull. Just another reason to patronize their shops. I aways take recommendations like this into consideration when purchasing.
now thats funny.
Mark I'll give it some thought about those limbs
Jim thanks for understanding
And everybody else I talked with Jim I am on the list now to think about wood combo
Good thing Big Jim didn't hunt you down. LOL
Congrats. U will love the thunderchild. Big jim is awesome
Thanks for the reminder to always be polite. Not always easy. I have had my share of grouchy, rude moments(my wife might say more than my share) But the slice of humble pie afterword is always good for me, even if it's not that easy to chew. :D
Congrats on the win.
Darcy :)
Good Story. This Thunderchild will be an extra Big medicine bow from the artist Big Jim.
That just shows you are human like the rest of us and we don't mean to be rude or disrespectful at times but working on construction jobs with noisy men, hammers, saws and men's mouth alone can make us all a bit upset if we are trying to do our jobs and the phone rings constently...I hate when our subcontractors phone rings and it's his wife calling several times about anything and then business calls while they are on our job doing time and material work...The good thing is you done what was right and called them back and manned up for your mistake and all is clear now..Maybe a box of chocholates or a card will make things right and you just may possibly make a new friend...Men will bark back at ya but women get their feelings hurt and a card and chocholate makes them feel much better for some reason or another
Congrats on the bow. I placed a phone order at Big Jims this morning for some shafts. Don't know if it was Debbie on the phone, but she was very helpful and courteous. She took the time to check inventory and measure shafts for me while on the phone. Great folks to deal with.
I'm not interested and don't call me...
That's excellent, but by the way, Debbie is not Big Jim's wife. :biglaugh:
I was thinking same thing BWD!! Did Big Jim find him a new missus??? Cause his better half (much better :goldtooth: ) is Barb not Debbie last time I talked to them.
Nooo, Mrs. Barb would skin that big man up so bad he'd look like he tried to ride a bobcat thru a plum thicket.
Debbie is the fine lady who prevents Jim from screwing up everything in the office. She is the one to thank when you get what you ordered. :D
Another great life lesson .... Congrats, and as I always say " some times it's better to be lucky than good " :jumper:
