Hunting a wma near home all week. I passed on a spike the first evening and saw a hog the next morning but didn't get a shot. I was trying to figure out where them bucks I got on trailcam were coming from so saturday I went deep in the swamp. I found an oak ridge between two pond/sloughs.
There was a trail a foot wide and fresh scrapes down the ridge. I got out of there and waited for an easterly wind. Monday's forcast showed ENE. So I paddled my pirogue over a half mile down a slough, then walked almost another half mile.

Hung my stand 10 yards from that trail and settled in.

The green heads were pouring into the long slough to the east all evening. Around 5pm I looked over my shoulder and saw a couple deer crossing the south end of the pond. They were headed to the ridge. I lost sight of them for a while, then I hear leaves rustling and grab my bow and get ready. Here they come on the trail. A big doe with two yearlings. She gets right in front of me and I pick a spot then draw. Next thing I know the arrow was on its way. A clean pass through behind the shoulder! Gotta Love It! She ran 30 yards and stood there stopping her foot, then fell over :)

Nicely done!
Good job Cory you are a killing machine. You are our Louisiana R.C. :notworthy: :campfire:
NICE JOB
De-boned or just quartered? I know there's tons of videos on gutless field quartering, but if you're actually deboning in the field I'd like to hear about it. (Nobody will mistake me for a surgeon when deboning quarters after the fact, LOL) I sort of just "whittle" the leg bones out without separating the various cuts. Doesn't matter in my case, because I have it all turned into smoked summer sausage at a local Amish community. I hunt a few limited-access places where it would be nice to know how to do it in the field.
Way to go! A public land deer can be pretty hard to come by.
Very nice!
You are right about that Kip, the man has a hatred for deer that just isn't natural! :biglaugh:
de-boned is the way to go
Congrats, Corey!

Congratulations! Nice story and a great shot! That would be a neat experience paddling back to your hunting area. It would eliminate about 99% of the competition.

Good stuff!!
Congrats, that sounds like some real hunting.
Congrats! you sure worked for that one.
I've always wanted to hunt the south, then I saw the snake thread :biglaugh:
Sounds like a great day. Well done!
Eric
A doe on public land is quite the feat! I hunt some areas too that I can only access by boat and those areas usually have less pressure.
Next year I plan to de-bone the animals in the field to make my packs out much easier.
Use to live in La.and had a camp near Red River WMA.
Nice Canoe!
awesome job!
Congrats I like the looks of your terraine
Well done!
Nice job. Looks like a great way to get away.
looking at that picture makes me want to take a nap and sit in a hot tub!
Man that is a load!
You are the MAN in my book! Excellent adventure and way to go the extra "mile" to get er done!

Deboned completely Sir. Mr Warren Womack turned me onto field quartering instead of dragging. I've seen videos on field quartering but none on deboning. I just couldn't see packing them bones out so I took it to the next level. I cut the deer from tail to the head up it's back while it's laying on it's side. Then I peel the hide back on the hind quarter, split the quarter along the femur taking each half off the bone while still connected. I peel the shoulder hide back, bedone it. Cut backstrap out, trim neck meat and flip the deer over and repeat. :)
I'll never drag another deer out the woods!
Awesome adventure! Love hearing about guys going that extra mile in the field.
Looking good Corey, congrats on the plan and kill.
Billy
Nice work. I love paddling in to hunt. A lot of fun!
Sweet. I convinced Warren to quarter a buck for me in OK a couple years back. Convinced him I didn't know where to start. He even put it on video. I'm pretty sure he smelled a rat before he was done.
Nice!
Congrats, Love those swamp deer!
Congrats, always wanted to paddle to some good huntin'!
Well Done, Congrats!
Nice work.
Good job!! I hunt public land exclusively and its definately tough! What wma were you on? I'm from south La originally.
Congrats, Basinboy! I hunt a lot on public land, so anything is a trophy to me! Great story to go with out as well. Nicely done, sir!
There is something about a pic of a game aniamal when the weapon used was a trad bow. Good job!
good job Cory, sheal eat, basin still looks low, maybe this snow and rain this year will bring some much needed water out dar.
good shooting !
Great hunt!
That pirogue makes me miss my late father in law. He lived in Morgan City as was a fine outdoorsman. Don't know what became of his little boat.....thanks for sharing and bringing back some good memories of my own.

Very Low Mike. We got a little bump, it is up to 7.8 at Butte LaRose. Got some nice bucks on my trailcams but all at night. Hoping one will slip up.
A young man's game, that's for sure. Good for you son, I envy you and your skills.
Congrats
