Hello fellow TG'ers and Happy New Year. I thought I'd take a minute and share some pics of Dad and I from this past fall. The season is quickly winding down here and I find myself anxious for the 2013 Oct. opener. The "hunt" never really ends with shed hunting, springtime scouting and stand changes along with summertime drives with the girls keeping an eye on the bean fields. This past summer I decided to try to video my hunts myself in order to a keep a video record that someday my kids might find interesting. I was able to get all four kills on video and keep a basic video diary of the season which really added to the "fun" factor for me and also allowed me to review footage of shot placement. I hope in the future to be able to upload video clips to the website throughout the year if there is interest in it. Thanks again to all of you for supporting the bowyers and other business's who sponsor this site.

Brian is as good a bowhunter, bowyer and friend as a person could ask for. I'm proud to be a good buddy. I wish I had my marbles all lined up as well as he has at his age. Very admirable, which is saying something and a triple "atta boy" for his dad as well. Brian only asks you always keep hunting down wind of him Mark :>)

Nice shooting Brian. Hunting with your Dad and having the girls around close by has to be very rewarding. Good for you. Mike

Sorry for the delay guys. I'll start out with the first pic and go from there. The first buck pictured was shot the day after rifle season in KS. A good friend of mine has some property he hunts down there and he invited me to hunt with him this year. We had this buck on trail camera last year and I even had him at 10 yards but was never able to get a shot. He was a 4x4 last fall but had grown into a 4x3 this year with good mass. His bases were 6.5" and nice long brows. He was a mature buck that I was very happy to get. He traveled about 100 yards on the double lung hit. A huge thankyou to my buddy. He had set that stand earlier in the season and graciously allowed me to sit it that morning when it was the only good stand for the particular wind we had.
Gotta go, pizza just came out of the oven and the family is waiting.... : )
-
Hahaha go eat Brian but I am waiting....
-
That must be one heck of a pizza! :)

MMMMmmmmmm good! Had to go back to the shop to build antler knobs and put inserts in 5 risers so I can work on them tomorrow. Anyway, my IA buck (other buck pictured) was shot on Nov. 10. It was warm and very windy that morning but things were really kicking in. Around 8:45 a few does came through and 15 minutes later I looked to the west and saw a buck making his way to me with his head down. I made a quick decision to shoot him and turned the camera on and got ready for the shot. Moments later he stepped out from the brush and passed by. I let out a "mmmeeaarnt" and stopped him as his pace was a little quicker than I wanted for a moving shot. He stopped in his tracks and looked right at me but it was too late. The arrow took out both lungs and he was dead in under 75 yards. I made a call to Gene Wensel and an hour later he was waiting at my truck to help track and get him out. Thanks for help the Gene.
All in all it was a great season for Dad and I. Not because of any amount of game killed, but more because of time spent together in the field hunting, tracking, hanging, skinning, and maybe enjoying a cold one after the work was done talking of hunts in years past. Phone calls at night to or from hunting buddies talking about what each other had seen, close calls and just misses were a nightly event. The season closes tomorrow and they are calling for rain all day so I left the shop early to get one more sit in. I drove to the farm and got out and opened the back to change clothes. I threw my quiver over my shouler and grabbed my bow. I made the walk back through the tree planting like I've done hundreds of times over the years. I got to the stand, looked around and up at the sky thanking God for the opportunity to enjoy His creation. A few minutes later I turned around and walked back to the car. I guess I just wanted to carry the bow one more time. 9 months and 21 days to go till the opener and I can't wait!
-
Good for you Brian. I'm glad you took the time to hunt, not matter how short. Thanks for the bows you have made me. I took off my broadheads and screwed in field points for an indoor shoot tonight with The Rat Bow. I will put broadheads back on and go to the woods this weekend. You are always with me. Mike
