Well I was fortunate enough to have a week or so off after Christmas when our rut is usually in full swing. I have a go to stand that is usually a matter of time every year before a good one is killed. Well the river came up and there was way more water than usual. It was true pain to get back there the first day. It was cold 20mph wind and higher water than normal whcih isnt a problem just made the funnel smaller.

I had the KB in the tree with me for the first hunt. Had a descent 8 a 6 and a couple does come through. 8 looked little young so I let him slide.

Well the river got up more and made it to high to get back there.
Two days later found me in the same spot it is amazing to me how fast the river can rise and fall.

I hunted from 6-10 saw 4 different bucks chasing does none of which were close enough for a shot. I decided to take a break for an hour and get back in the tree. Only this time decided to change my luck and take the PA to the tree. The sun broke out and the water continued to fall.

At 12 I heard a chase coming from behind me they ran by between me and the water I could not get him to stop. They headed to a peninsula on the river I knew they would either skirt me on the other side of slough or came back by me at some point. 10 minutes or so went by I hear them again here they come well the doe checks up and cuts back they run around in circles for about 5 min in a 40x40 yard area. I am sitting here contemplating on pulling a stalk. They cahge there mind and head out back to the point once again only this time they are headed out not likely to come back to my side. At 12:34 I hear water crashing and grunts coming from straight down the edge of the water in front of me. I see a doe here she comes I grab my bow, here he comes the doe runs under me at 3 yards to my right between the water and my tree. I draw he sees me and stops takes a crawfish step back he is 1/4 to I will admit it is not the best shot angle but I felt confident. I loosed the arrow it smoked him he wheels and runs back the way he came. I hear a crash in the slough I think he must be crossing it.

The PA hanging after the shot had to take a seat and collect my thoughts. I decide to ease out of my tree after about a 30 min wait. I get to the camp and share the story with friends. I decide to wait until 4:00 to start the track good light to see blood and a while before dark to read sign to see if an overnight wait is in store. Well it is time I put the tracking harness on my tracking dog Jethro a catahoula.

I take him to the spot and let him go in less than a minute he has covered the 60 yards and found my buck in the slough I thought i heard him cross

Pretty cool! That is a huge buck! Sounds like your were in the right spot. Did the arrow pass through at that angle? What broad head.
I spent the entire day trying to decide what woods to order my new Black Widow in. And you just helped me out! I have never heard of Balck/white ebony? It's a sharp looking bow. I'm going to order my new PCH with that wood.
