Title: Kanati?
Post by: S.C. Hunter on January 06, 2013, 02:04:00 PM
What are your thoughts on the Kanati? I am looking hard at a Hill style bow, but the longest bow I have shot is a 64". I prefer a shorter bow especially for hunting. I do love the look of the Hill style bows and have shot them before and they are so quite.

I am aksing about the Kanati but if there is another bow that is similar let me hear about it. I want smooth, quite, little to no stacking. I am not a speed demon but if it can be had and not give up the smooth and quite aspect I am up for that as well.

Bows I have owned or own are Toelke super D, Wilderness longbow no longer made, Kota longbow, Bama hunter, Ferguson patriot,Northern mist Baraga, Thunderstick mag, Tomahawk bow, RER, Shrew SS, Legend LB. I am sure I am missing something but this was just to give you a idea of what I have shot or owned.

The kanati is considered one of the all time best hunting bows by many folks and by me also . Do a search and you will get all the info you need .

Not sure how similar but take a look at Leon Stewart s longbows. They are smooth, quiet,No stacking ,no handshock and do very well in performance.I have owned a few and I am shooting his one piece slammer right now and couldnt be happier.Check out his website I believe he is a sponsor here.

for the price there is NO better hybrid then a Kanati, period.

Fantastic grip, plenty fast, quiet, well mannered etc....

At first I didn't like my Kanati. Then I realized that you aren't supposed to grip it like a standard longbow but rather like a recurve. I have since fallen in love with mine. The only drawback is that it is very light which might be a turnoff for some.

Love love love mine. It's an incredible smooth shooting bow. Do a search.  You'll see most agree. Nothing at all like a hill style bow

kanati's are great shooting reasonably priced, I would recommend a thunderstick mag or moab as well I've had a ton ofbows no.secret there but the smoothest drawing short r/d was was a moab good luck also don't rule out a shrew classic hunter 56" smooth too

A kanati is at the top of my "to try out" bows.

Just looks like a great design.

Ralph, I think I may have taken the Thunderstick mag off of your hands. It has been a while but that was a good shooting bow. I guess with your comment on the MOAB it stands up to your draw length. How have you been lately?

Been fine thnx hope you guys are as well, the moab I had was a great bow it was 62" and unreal smooth I hear the 60" bow is even better,  jmo and certainly not taking anything away from the kanati they are excellent bows from a super bowyer

I have one of Jason's first bows ; they where called [J.K.Traditions] back then it's the only bow I've shot ever since buying it in Jason's back yard . Fell in love with it then and still is the most accurate ; quite no hand shock bow I personally have ever shot . For price ; quality of workmanship ;you will never find a better bow [IMO] .

Love mine.  Very quick but stable.  I added a Kanati Pro Angle quiver and everything about the setup is perfect IMO.

I have shot many recurves and longbows Including Big Jim Buffalo and many Black Widow bows. I bought a Kanati based solely on the reviews of fellow Trad Gangers. I can say without a doubt it is the smoothest and quietest shooting of all I have shot. It is also very fast. From the moment I picked it up it felt like it just melted into my hand and became a part of it. I feel it is a bargain at twice the price and it is very beautifull to boot. 56" 52#@27" It only weighs 18oz and I dont give up any forgiveness to the longer bows either. And oh yea, Jason is awesome to deal with. You wont find better customer service.

Wish I had tried a Kanati before trying this bow, that bow, yo bow, yo mama's bow and maybe even yo Daddy's bow.....  :p , sure would have saved some change in the stash jar on shipping. I will echo what folks have stated in the thread 110%. Jason is on par with any of the bowyers I have had the pleasure of dealing with. The Kanati for me is the ticket !!. Best forward handle hybrid going, will add this bow seems to want to go where your'e looking especially on a day where your'e not on, what else do you need....Period !!. And as Si Robertson says "Hey, that's a fact Jack".... give me some more sweet tea.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I have been out of the shop for awhile with a very sick father so I am just a hair behind schedule, he seems to be turning the corner for the better now, after 5 weeks in the CCU he is finally in a regular room. The sawdust should be flying again shortly.

I have a couple of really perty ones coming up next!

I don't know how those new really pretty ones could be better looking than the one you built for me. Mine is really great looking.
All the best,

By the way, guys, mine is the one with the accent stripe and rosewood riser that is pictured on Jason's website. It is stunning in person -- the photo can only hint at how good looking it is. The fit and finish are perfection.

Jason,

So sorry for your loss.  Picture this though:  Your Dad is probably in Heaven right now talking to Fred Bear, Ben Pearson, Howard Hill, and all of the other Archery greats, bragging about his son and what wonderful bows he creates!

Prayers of comfort to you and your family from mine.
