Hi guys I have a chance to trade for a nice Wesley but its 64" and I draw 29" I know everyone recommends a longer bow but can this length be shot @29" without stacking? Thnx
I am sure that you have read it, if you have a long draw with a recurve, you will have a shorter draw with a Hill. Will this bow draw smoothly at that draw length? You are bound to get an answer that will say it does not stack, but at 28" and more the longer Hills shoot way way better.
seems a little short for that draw.
I'd say way short. 68" would be minimum I think. Just my opinion though.
Go longer IMHO - that's when these bows really come into their own.
Ralph, hope you find what you are looking for it is tough trying to decide. I am in the same boat right now looking hard at the Hill style but I don't really want a longer bow. I like them 64" or less and really prefer shorter. Good luck!
Thnx guys as usuall some informed opinions I want to try this bow in a bad way but I am leaning on passing it, I had a n/mist whisper that was 64" and smooth as butter but it obviously had the reverse handle
I wouldn't do it myself. I draw 28" and like 68" bows the best--66" is marginal in a Hill style bow for me.
To answer your question Yes!
You can call Craig at HH yourself to get the answer. Craig many years ago stated bamboo limbs will not stack until 32" (to me) all other limb woods 30". The Wesley has bamboo limbs. Many believe the longer the bow the smoother the draw. It is all in the design of the bow and materials. I have a two 60" Recurves (Bruin and Super Kodiak)and draw them to 32" easily without issue and a 64" Longbow although a R/D Bear Ausable. No string angle or finger pinch while shooting. Had a 66" Wesley I hunted almost exclusively with for many years drawing 32" without stack until the weight got to my degenerating body. I also had a 70" Redman that was a lighter weight but started to stack after 30". Just my experience's, good luck to you and enjoy your journey.
I'd probably go longer in length if it was me and wait for another thats better suited to your draw ...
Guess I'll be the odd man. For years I shot a 64" Big Five that was 60@29 and I draw 29. It shot like a dream for me. Never had a problem with the length. It was also the most accurate bow I had. I still shoot it once in a while now, but the weight is a little much for me these days. Did I mention gettin' old sucks.
Good luck.
64 for a 29" draw TOO short you need a min of 66" but even that's pushing it man, I'd try to find a 68" bow if I were you!!!
Thnx guys I really value the input lots of experience here think I will call him just to get his opinion my only concern was stacking,I know longer bows will be smoother just didn't want to hit that dreaded wall
Most Hills I have have had were a bit heavier than they said......I had a 64" Hill and I draw 29"....I did not notice any stack it was the weight that came across to me. It was 2-3 pounds heavy and then with another inch of draw that made it 5-6 pounds and it was to much! Like I said I felt no stack!
Too short Ralph.RC
No way for your draw. 70"would be the rt lenght. I went to bob wesleys bow camp. I had never shot a hill bow and of course I wanted one he said be would order it for me and lnspect it before fur turning ot over to me a tembo brownglass white belly exquisite beautiful a 70"bow. He said"thiswill shoot the bestfor you" I draw 27.5.bob knowslongbows he would advise you not to get a 64"hhill at your draw.
For straight limb bows like a Hill,I wouldn't go shorter then 66" and I draw 27".I have a 66" and 68" Hill bows I shoot.
I would pass. Ive had one 66" and it was short for me. 28"
Draw.. I now have a 68" hill and much happier with it
Thnx guys
I shot my recurve with a 29 inch draw....now that I shoot Hill style I am pulling a solid 27" with bent arm and low heel grip and my 66" inch Hill shoots like a dream! 64"?? Might be pushing it....
thanks Greg it hurt but i had to pass on it!
I own a 64" TD "RedMan" 53@28" and several other Hill bows that are 66" in length. My draw length is just short of 28". Although I do not have a problem shooting the 64" bow, I much prefer the 66" length in the 56/57@28"range. Craig will tell you to stick with the 66/68" bow at your 29" draw. With that said I went with less draw weight to accomodate for the shorter length on my 64" "Red Man" and I'm very happy with the results.

you could pull 31" with that bow, no problem there.
but @ 29" for a 64" hill, it will stack on ya like crazy and make you very very sad.with a 29" draw length on a hill style american flat longbow, you will get some stack with a 66" length. i wouldn't get less than a 68" amo length for a true 29" draw length.
choose wisely and as always, ymmv.
thnx guys i truly appreciate the info and looking back over the hills iv'e owned one of the sweetest was a 70" redman stacked arrows like crazy just too long for the thickets i hunt!
If you were looking for a good shooting 64"longbow for your draw, I would suggest a Mohawk or a Robertson and I would not worry much about the extra little bends, nor would I complain about the Schulz reflexed longbow speed.
both are fine bows for sure and i've owned both just never had a chance to trade for a 64" Hill thnx
I draw 26.5" and I won't buy any Hill style bow under 66". 67" shoots best for me.
I'd go minimum 66" for my 27" draw,,, on a hill style bow.. reflex/deflex I'd go 64 minimum..
Thnx again guys
I'll just add to the chorus...I draw 26.5 and wouldn't go less than 66".
One fall I hunted with a 68" Hill and never found it a problem because of it's length. And I hunted some pretty thick stuff.
I have 7 hills, the shortest hill is 60" reverse handle, a 66" a couple 68" and three 70" and I draw around 29. the 60" is an outstanding
tight cover hunting bow but in know way feels like a hill there somthing about the 70" bows that just feels right and my Kramer "big five" 5 lam, even more so, so the length will balance speed vs classic feel, short/ fast or long/elegant
good luck
David took the words out of my mouth.
I wouldn't do it myself. I draw 28" and like 68" bows the best--66" is marginal in a Hill style bow for me.
:campfire: out of the several Hills iv'e owned a 70" cheetah was my favoite thnx for all the posts!
I have a 66 in. Northern Mist Shelton that I put on a digital scale and it stacked under 3 lb. from 28 in. to 29 in. I draw a 29 in. and it shoots fine for me.
