For the longbow guys out there...please give me your favorite bow for each of the following categories. Obviously, you may have a different answer for each question.
What's the quietest longbow you've shot?
What's the smoothest longbow you've shot?
What longbow you've shot has had the least amount of handshock?
Thanks. I truly trust the opinions of the members here. I'm doing research for my next bow to try, and your answers help me a great deal.
Oh, and it's okay if you want to answer a question as a tie or with an honorable mention for something other than your first choice.
My Griffin's would be my pick for all of the above..!

Pronghorn, Pronghorn, Pronghorn.
Toelke Whip, plus the customer service is amazing.
The quietest bow is probably my 21st Street Chinook
but that won't help you because the man who built it doesn't make them any more.
My smoothest bow is my Great Northern Bushbow
Least amount of hand shock is either the Chinook or Bushbow
Least hand shock ... for me JD Berry Vixen or Northern Mist Shelton.
Smoothest ... for me Shrew Hill
Quietest ... for me Shrew hill
Bob.
Leon Stewart 3 piece Slammer
Toelke Whip HS times 3!!
Gregg coffee. His bows don't need slincers. Java man
Liberty Bows
Allen Boice
I have a 60in 48#@28 Edge
Love it smooth, Quiet no hand shock and very flat shooting
Northern Mist Classic
Steve Turay bowyer.
Cari-Bow fits the bill on all 3 for me.Problem with this question is that there are so many GREAT bowyers or should I say artists out there building bows.
Smooth, quiet, and dead in the hand describes my Big Jim Buffalo. It's no slouch on speed either.
Leon Stewart Slammer
Bama bows Expedition Royal: smooth, No handshock
Quietest: Bama Hunter 66in d-Style
My JD berry Vixen takes all three here. Yellowstone Hunter is right behind it but it's a R/D not a straightlimbed
Leon Stewart longbows.
You have to shoot a griffin to understand but they exceedingly possess all of the characters you mention. John mccullough is an artist and a master of physics when it comes to bow building.
My Shrew Hill fits the bill you describe, plus light in the hand and quick as best a Hill style bow can be.
Liberty bows have to rank right up there in all categories.
Well, that ought to narrow it down for you...
I will say my Mohawks will be at the top of the list in all three of those questions. I love them.
Tom
Whippenstick.
Just remember this, most of us haven't had a chance to shoot dozens of bows so we find a bowyer who makes a bow that seems to fit and stick with it. In my case it was and is a Big River. I don't think I have shot more than 6 different brands of bows since I got back into trad 4 years ago and am sold on my Big Rivers - both a hill style and John's R/D's. I also have a NM Shelton and a Toelke Whip but the bow I always pick up first is one of my Big Rivers.
My advice is to shoot a few and find something that fits what 'you' want in a bow. All the bowyers mentioned produce quality bows that anyone could be happy with but what 'fits' you is something that only you will know.
For me the quietest was a custom Hill style bow but I can't remember the maker right now. For smoothest and least hand shock I'd have to go with my Sarell's Sierra.
Leon Stewart Slammer or Reflex/Deflex is quietest with no feel in the hand that i have shot. As far as smooth draw and shooting I have been impressed with the feel of the Zippers with Carbon & Foam limbs at 64". As with every different longbow I've shot it seems the lengths of 64" and longer seem to draw and shoot smoother.
21st Century
These should cover all of the above criteria for D shape long bows.
If you want something shorter we have the "Sasquatch" and "Yeti" lines too.

I have only owned about a dozen different longbows, and only shot maybe 15-20 different kinds.....but out of them the quietest was an Abbott, the least hand shock was my Big Jim 64" Buffalo.
Kirk, you and I gotta talk!
I've got to try one of yours THIS year.
What's the quietest longbow you've shot?
J D Berry
What's the smoothest longbow you've shot?
J D Berry
What longbow you've shot has had the least amount of handshock?
J D Berry
I have had 5 bows from jd. Berry. All of them fit the criteria lol. Smoothest, most quite, and least handshock. I have been fortunate enough to shoot alot of good boys over the years. And a lot of good ones at that. But the berrys have always stood out to me. I have felt more shock in some upper end r/d bows, than i do with the vixen. And its a straight end bow. Lol i have no idea how he does it
Hills are my choice.............
MOAB are the best i have ever shot.
i have to say my Black Creek siren and the banshee. these are great bows just like all the others mentioned.
Ditto on J.D. Berry bows.

Forgot about the Bushbow...a true classic.
I'm going to give the same answer as everyone else. Mine LOL. God bless you all , Steve

Bob Lee short riser take down 58" for me.
So far it is my ACS CX
No one has mentioned it, so I'll add to the confusion. The best of the few longbows I've shot is the 64" Holm-Made Osprey aka Goshawk.
Leon Stewart's bows
Caribow Peregrine times 3
Quietest Shrew. Smoothest Centaur. Least handshock is a tie between the 2.
This thread should be titled. Name your favorite longbow. Oh and mine after 20 years of experimenting. Dwyer. Bill
For me personally a Black widow PL is number one for all of those qualities with a tomahawk diamond series at a very close second.
Javaman's bows hands down, Greg is the man!!!!!!!!! :campfire: :coffee: :goldtooth:
I have owned four different brands of longbows and have come to prefer Pronghorns for all three concerns.
Quietest bow ...Kohannah Windwalker Smoothest bow...Great Northern Bushbow
Smoothest, Mohawk
Fastest, Centuar trip carbon
Dead in hand, Toelke Whip
Quietest, Black Creek 1 piece Siren, 58"
Cari-bow!!!! I've owned and shot many (not all mind you) but it is the bow I compare all others to. None have been better yet as an overall package.
Smoothest...Northern Mist Baraga
Quietest...Toelke Super-D
Dead in hand...Mohawk/NM Baraga
For me, and only speaking for me, I would have to say my Sentman Moosejaw longbow. However, there are many others out there that are just as good and with the same qualities one is looking for in a longbow.
My Sentman stands out but I like the one I am making as well. Can't really say better./ But thats pretty good as far as I am concerned. Neither bow is a top speed bow that will compete with the heavy D and Rs but there is just that un-defineable something about the solid way they shoot.
God bless you all, Steve
There are alot of nice longbows out and the choice is still up to the individual shooter. A high dollar bow doesn't necesarilly mean it will shoot better than a less expensive bow. There are alot of bows I have never shot and some I dont need to shoot again. I guess the ones I like best are the ones I still own. In any order.
54" Treadway Black Forest. (my main hunting bow)
58" Treadway original
62" Dwyer Dauntless
66" Chekmate Crusader
58" Fredrick Yeoman
62" Navajo Cherokee by Roy Hall
Only my opinion of course.
What's the quietest longbow you've shot? Northern Mist Whisper
What's the smoothest longbow you've shot? Whisper/Baraga
What longbow you've shot has had the least amount of handshock?
Whisper/Aspen Monarch
My Zipper Nitro has all those bases covered and then some!!!!
Smoothest- liberty
Quietest- Great Northern
Least shock - liberty or Northern Mist
Amending a statement I made. I said neither my Sentman of my longbow is a top speed bow compared to a hot d and r bow. I am referring to my D longbow the Frontier 66. The d and rs I build are nice and warm.
God bless you all, Steve
Habu Vyperkahn triple carbon
Qarbon Nano
Sarrels. Bob builds a nice bow.
What's the quietest longbow you've shot?
A 1pc Green Mountain Stingray, 1pc 62" Whip, Horne Combo Hunter 3pc and a A&H ACS 3pc
What's the smoothest longbow you've shot?
I don't think I have had a longbow that wasn't smooth. The only difference I have noticed is some have no preload, others have a lot of early preload, and then the remainder have a balanced approach.
What longbow you've shot has had the least amount of handshock?
A Hummingbird 3pc, RER LX 3pc, and A&H ACS 3pc.
Mohawk.
Treadway Blackforest
Quietest is any selfbow, then Hill style longbow. Smoothest, fastest, least amount of hand shock, etc. are my A&H ACSs.
I'd have to say a Jim Jone's firefly for all three, and even though I don't shoot it much (prefer the looks of a one piece), I can't seem to sell it for those reasons.
I think the quitest I've had is a Two Tracks long Walker I just pulled in off a trade. Had Mink on it when I got it, which I pulled off to see what I really had as far as vibration and noise. I was impressed and may not add anything back. Shooting 10 strand just under 10gr per lb.
As for smoothest , that would be my Hummingbirds. My 3 pc bird is pretty darn quite also.
Thats easy.....Big River, Big River, Big River!
Quietest, smoothest, and most shock free have all been a 64" Widow PLX T/D for me, I had a 60 and 62 that didn't match it and even the more straight limbed Robertson Primal Styk I had wasn't as quiet as that particular Widow. Sold it like an idiot. Next in line for smoothest and most shock free would be a Morrison Dakota 1 pc, and then a super shrew deluxe, that's a pretty sick bow.
Howard Hill!
